  1. The rear sight is elevation adjustable, but has to be drifted for windage.
  2. No, the 45 frame is larger than the 9 or 40 frame. Nothing really interchanges between the 45 and the 9 or 40.
  3. I received my brownells mags (6) last week and tried them yesterday. Every one worked well with no issues. I really like the coating on the mags, it's really slick and the empties shot out of the pistol. They feel much slicker than SS or blued mags. I loaded and shot each one about 3 times with no issues. Time will tell if they hold up and are reliable in my gun. I will update in the future once I get many more rounds through the mags.
  4. Silly me, I forgot to take pics. I finally picked mine up yesterday. It got to my friends house (FFL) in 5 days from ordering. Remington got the pistol out quick. I was camping last weekend so I had to wait a week to pick it up. In that time I ordered 6 mags from Brownells, 4 from CDNN, and mag pouches and holster off amazon. My friend just got his MGM plate rack setup so we broke it in. The pistol out of the box was hitting 8" left at 10 yards. I had to aim right between the plates to hit center of the intended plate. The rear sight was visibly off center. Up and down was in the center of the fiber optic. Too low for my tastes, I like it to hit at the top of the front sight. A few minutes on the bench and the rear sight drifted easily to the right and the elevation was adjusted to my tastes. It was hitting dead on at 10 yards. I have not shot a 1911 in years. The past 4 years I have competed with a M&P in one form or another in USPSA or 3gun. I shot the pistol like crap at any sort of speed. I hit low with every shot. I beat the crap out of my friends deflector on his plate rack. I owe him a can of paint. Once I took my time I could clear the rack no problem. This is going to be a learning experience for me. I am happy with the pistol. Other than a sight adjustment all was well. The factory mags fed and functioned, the brownells mags worked great and the 4 mags from CDNN (in kit with cheap case) also worked flawlessly. Overall we put 200 rounds through the pistol and did not experience a single stoppage. The only issue affected my friend, some mags did not lock back for him. I had no issues with any mag and I made sure I went through all 12. Only time will tell if it was a grip issue or mag issue.
  5. I would recommend Taran Tactical extensions on full size mags and try out limited for a while with your 23. They can be used when you get your 34 or 35. Dont worry about a magwell. A double stack pistol has a big enough hole. After you shoot for a while and get a feel for which division you want to shoot, you can buy equipment accordingly.
  6. I ordered mine last year. It showed up within 2 weeks and I was impressed with the quality. There were no issues with ordering and getting it from the Czech Republic . I highly recommend them if you are going to load two. However, load four is the go to currently and invictus practical is hard to beat. I am heading towards 16 on the belt in load four and keeping the 20 on my chest for the large stages.
  7. I have a couple on on some 22's and used to bave one on an AR. I am impressed with their durability, clarity and battery life. I have had no issues even with thousands of rounds of 223.. For the price they are hard to beat. I have primary arms mini red dots and the TRS is much better quality. The glass is better and the battery life is much longer. The TRS mount is solid even though you will need a riser for an AR. The primary arms seem to strip the screws with little effort, but you can get many more mount options.
  8. Techwear for better quality. Animal for almost there quality. Or find a local shop the does the sublimation dye printing for a fraction of the cost of the big ones and use superior materials from Under Armor or Nike. (Lucky to have a local company here) However, the collar styles are limited to crew neck/t-shirt style. In my opinion the big guys use the cheapest/thinnest moisture wicking material available. They could get much better quality if they just bought white UA or Nike shirts from Dicks and printed on those. I have off the shelf moisture wicking shirts that have lasted 5 years while match jerseys that didnt last the weekend. Guess which one cost $23 and which costs $75.
  9. Right on top of my tactical shelf. (That is just above the beer gut) Seriously, try it on and figure it out yourself. It will become apparent pretty quickly where you like it. One spot will feel much more natural than the others.
  10. Small gravel? I don't need to wear my combat boots to protect my little footsies anymore? I can get me some of those fancy go fast shoes that all the cool kids use. Too bad I don't go fast. Oh well, I will see you Sunday, I always look forward to the WCRH monthly match. You guys put on one hell of a match and its great to see money going back into the club in improvements. Every year it gets better. Keep up the good work guys!!!
  11. I searched but could not find any info. Has anyone tried Brownells 1911 magazines? I am a newbie to single stack and looking to get some mags. I can get the Brownells 8-round mags for $20 each. I have been impressed with their aluminum AR mags and am wondering if their 1911 were of similar quality. I know I can get CM power mags for $25 each, but why not save $50 since I will be buying 10 or so mags.
  12. CR's purple looks good. A local girl uses their gear and the purple is darker "standard" purple. It is not pastel and is darker than the grips shown above. I would classify it as Barney purple. (That big dinosaur that my son thankfully was never fond of)
  13. Without the ALS in the holster there will be no retention. It will simply be a gun in a shell. Any running or quick movements could dislodge the gun and send you to DQ or worse. I have used the ALS system for years. I believe it actually helps achieve a good high grip on a pistol. The placement of the button is perfect on my M&P holsters. Once the thumb hits the ALS the pistol simply lifts with no resistance unlike your typical kydex "squeeze" type holsters. Ihave a DAA racer for limited and several ALS holsters for 3gun and formerly limited in USPSA. My draw times are the same between holsters. The ALS is in no way slowing me down (just my lack of skill). Try a 6377 or 6378 or the new 7 series as a lower cost ($40) holster. I dont think you will be dissappointed and the ALS sytem will not be an issue.
  14. I just ordered it Friday. Once it comes in I will update on how long it took to get here and post some pics. Remington is not screwing around. I ordered the pistol on Thursday the 14th and it arrived on the 19th. Too bad I can't pick it up until the 30th. Oh well, it gives me time to shop for gear.
  15. Everyone has pointed you in the right direction. Open the candy cane a little bit and you should be good to go. Don't open too much or you will have light strike issues like I did.
  16. I have read 7000 rounds on the stock M&P spring. For me, feeding issues are usually the first sign that something is up and time to change the recoil spring. For the non-captured guide rods, the first one listed is shorter and will fit flush with the front of a 4.25" gun and will be recessed about 3/4" from the front of a 5" gun. (like a stock guide rod) The second guide rod is longer and will stick out about 3/4" from the front of a 4.25" gun but will be flush with the front of a 5" gun. It adds a little bit of forward weight over the shorter guide rod.
  17. For anyone wondering it is $646 for a SS enhanced R1 shipped with tax. Remington has not answered my question on why I was charged tax when they are located I North Carolina and I am in Ohio. In my original post I said $540 for the pistol, apparently I can't read. It is $558 for the black coated pistol and $588 for the SS. Overall I saved about $140 over dealer price from a friend and about $200 from online stores. Local stores are a joke, $900+ from the big box stores (Gander, Bass Pro, Cabelas) and the local mom & pop do not carry them.
  18. Since no one can come up with any negatives I am going to pick one up. Thanks for the replies.
  19. Ropsitos, I dont need another wife breathing down my neck. I won't have to pay a transfer fee so my savings will be a little more. Pat, I appreciate the effort!
  20. I have chronoed blazer aluminum case 115gr. It is one of the hotter budget rounds at 133-136 pf. If you want closer to 125 try S&B (127-130) or Winchester white box (123-128). Be careful with the whitebox, I have had lots that didnt even make minor.
  21. The deal with Remington through USPSA has me itching to get a R1 enhanced to play with. Are there any reasons to avoid the pistol? Are there better 1911's out there for $540 or less. I keep looking at all the positives and am wondering if there are any negatives that I am not seeing. Thanks, Ryan
  22. Freedom (Xtreme) makes the best plated bullets period. The plating is so thick it is practically jacketed. I have shot plenty of their 40 ammo and it was stiff. 180pf with 180gr bullets . The good thing was the ammo was consistent and every passed a chamber gauge. I can't comment on the specific ammo you are looking at, but Xtreme is one of the good guys in my book and I wouldn't hesitate to buy from them. If my pistols did not shoot coated lead much better than plated, every bullet would be purchased from Freedom/Extreme.
  23. With stock barrels the 40 will definitely out shoot the 9 for accuracy. That is what I have experienced in my Pros. Once I put Storm Lake barrel in my 9 pro the accuracy greatly improved. I enjoy shooting the 9 the most. It is such a soft shooting pistol with 128PF loads.
  24. Maybe it is just me, but I dont like the flat trigger. I had a polymer FSS trigger in my 40 pro and never had an issue. I swapped in the flat trigger over the winter and it certainly felt different but dry fired the same as the polymer trigger. I went to the range a week before my first USPSA match this year and sighted in a new scope on my 3gun rifle and put 50 rounds through my 40 pro. It ran fine as it always had. I get to my first match and on the very first stage I drew and clicked. Tap rack and bang went the next round and the rest of the stage was a series of clicks and remedial action drills. I switched the 13lb spring for a 15lb and the gun ran OK for the rest of the day. My next match the 15lb spring was not enough and had to switch to the factory spring. WHAT IS GOING ON? My previously perfect pro 40 is causing me grief. My only change since last year is the flat trigger addition. Not the whole kit, only the trigger, I already had the kit in the gun and it ran flawlessly. I switched the gun back to the polymer trigger and it has run flawlessly. I put the 13lb spring back in it and I am a happy camper. A weekend of 400 rounds without a malfunction gave me trust in my 40. I love my 40 pro again. Curse you flat trigger, I tried to like you but you stabbed me in my back. Its off to the classifieds for you. Maybe I dont know how to adjust the candy cane or my pistol has a wacky tolerance, but I can't get it to run well in my 40. I guess I don't get to be one of the cool kids .
  25. I paid $525 for both of my pros and $329 for my shield (in Ohio). I would offer $500 for the pro and $300 for the shield. If the guns are lightly used, 25 bucks off the new price is a good friend price. If I was buying from an unknown, minimum 50 bucks off what I can get them for new. Then I evaluate the condition of the firearm and subtract from there.
