  1. i have been shooting anything I can find. My favorite so far has been bullseye with a BBI 147gr bullet. The combo of a faster powder and heavy bullet leads to a very soft push feeling. I run that combo in in my Glock 19 and full size M&P.
  2. As a starter rifle, it will definately get you going! I would agree with Mark though, it depends on how much you want to change right away. If you want to change a bunch of stuff right off the bat, building your own might be a better option. If you plan on only doing little things to start with, I don't see why this rifle wouldn't work, especially with the decent price.
  3. Thank you for all the info. I will have to buy a few springs to play with for when I do run the conversion barrel. I had not thought about having to switch rates between calibers. Is there one brand of barrel that people have found to work better than others for the conversion? It seems like most people run KKm for when they keep the 40, any reason to try anyone else?
  4. I currently run either Oakley M-frames or Flak Jackets. I choose what set based off if I need clear or tinted for the day. I don't currently have a mid-range lense though. As others have said, you get what you pay for in terms of glass/optics. It is impressive how clear the lenses are comared to "basic" safety glasses. It pays to save up and buy quality.
  5. Sarge- Thank you for the fast response! I have used the PAC timers at some local matches, and haven't had a bad thing to say about them. The only reason I have been looking at the shotmaxx is I can be a numbers nerd some days (I blame precision rifle shooting). I had forgotten about the par timer, seen it on youtube, but pulled a blank about it being a "must have." So many fun things to buy...so little money.
  6. Enjoy Fort Collins! I went to college at CSU, and spent 2007-2013 up in Foco. I enjoyed the Front Range Gun Club in Loveland. It is a nice indoor range, and they allow you to do holster work once they make sure you are safe. I miss having such a nice range up here in AK. They also had a few pistol and rifle matches at the same range. I hadn't started shooting USPSA while I was in Colorado, so I am sorry I can not direct you better there. I think a few people in Jensen Arms in Loveland shoot USPSA, but I could be wrong. If they don't, they probably know the people who do. The Pawnee grasslands area is great when you get far enough out. You can set up targets however you want, and make your own stages. Read up on where you can and can not shoot though! The Rangers that patrol through the area are very nice as long as you are polite and are only shooting correct targets (clays, paper or steel).
  7. That is awesome! My wife is way more accurate than I am, and has done similar things to me. Way to get her started right, and with great results. I see too many people (not members here) that just go with the biggest pistol they can and hand it to their signifigant other, and wonder why they don't ever want to go shooting again.
  8. I have been combing through the threads on the forum, and I am still struggling to find what exact features people place as the highest priority. As someone without a shot timer, I guess I don't really know what features are "must haves" versus nice-to-have. I assume the follow are required: Overall string Split review Delay Start (I assume variable delay is an extra bonus?) Anything else I am missing from that list? Sorry to ask such a simple question, my only experience with timers is for normal match use, not so much personal training.
  9. 45% IPSC target at 100 yards with my Glock 19. Not pretty at all, but it ocassionally makes the steel ring. 50 yards is much better, but still bad. I am lacking on a good trigger press currently. I can rock out at 50 yards with my Colt SAA clone (Uberti) in 45 Colt though. 3 or 4 out of 5.
  10. I lube mine the night before. Though the 9mm through a Hornady AP press is easy, once lubed it runs with virtually no effort. It keeps the transitions smoother as the press lowers.
  11. I had never thought of just focusing before on the A box before the timer goes off. I had kept my head down as well. A friend brought up an interesting theory, he would visualize just that first target with sight picture, and his classifier scores went up noticeably. He also noticed, if he started well, the stage typically went better for him. All fun new things to try.
  12. I run my stock barrel for Limited. I am also shooting only 9mm (yes I get the minor handicap). I am currently running BBI bullets, and am not having leading issues. Once I buy a Glock 35 I will run an aftermarket barrel to avoid the buldge issue. I may also run a conversion barrel in 9mm at first since I have the magazines and reloading equipment already. I would also suggest just running a basic spring kit/connector until you figure out exactly what you want with the trigger. For $20 bucks from Glockworkx you can get the springs and connector. Polish it a bit, and it feels pretty great for what you put into it. It also is still legal in Production if you choose to shoot that division.
  13. For my rifle match loads, nothing but Federal LR Match. Pistols and revolvers, is pretty much whatever is still available. If I have multiple choices, and I run a glock, I go with whatever is cheapest. I have not really messed with my springs though, so I do not have issues with light primer strikes.
  14. Never heard of the dillon case lube trick before. It seems like coated bullets would be great since they reduce the ammount of powder it takes to make the same velocity. I wonder if this would make more powders work for 9 Major?
  15. Thank you for the feedback. I have been considering picking up the shotmaxx as my first timer. I would mostly use iton each run, then writedown that specific info for the run in a log book. But if their bluetooth and app can do that for me, so the better.
  16. I started running some BBI bullets through my stock glock 19 barrel. No issues so far. There is smoke, but not nearly as bad as straight lead. I find it a good middle ground for price vs smoke.
  17. All I was suggesting was do not put a full on dual/multi port brake and expect to make friends with others on the range. Now if you want to create space around you, go for it! Getting a suppressor for competition is mostly silly anyways...the shot timer doesn't pick up your shots being fired. My suggestion for what you are wanting would be something like the BCM compensator. Not too obnoxious, but still tames things down. Maybe find a used one floating around here or m4carbine.net.
  18. If you hate your RO, or ever shoot through barrels, I would suggest not using a full on brake. It will give you a solid rattle, even with two sets of ear pro. I have a Surefire brake on my 10.5" SBR. I run it with a silencer 99% of the time just to keep things civil at my range.
  19. Welcome! Always great to have more perspectives from all over the world! Awesome shotgun choice.
  20. The CZs are already being used in competitions around Europe, and I think quite successfully, so hopefully after market stuff will grow. It seems that either the US aftermarket follows the trend of European markets, or completely does its own thing. I hope we follow them, and embrace the CZ warmly. I actually like the look of the factory stock (obviously have not played with one yet). I also wonder based off the importation and aftermarket, how 922r compliance will be achieved.
  21. I second Butterpu's suggestion. CDNN has had Gen 4 mags (important for left handed folk) that are factory for a bit under 20. http://www.cdnnsports.com/magazines.html?brand=361 They also have 40 SS&W magazines for those who shoot the 35 in limited. Then add some basepads from some of the sponsors of this forum, and enjoy great magazines!
  22. I shot my first 3 gun with a borrowed Remington 870, my glock 19 with my IDPA set up, and my SBR AR with a red dot. Extra shotgun shells were in a cargo pocket, had two regular Glock 19 mags, and an AR mag in another cargo pocket. Did I place very low? Absolutely, but I really enjoyed it. I still only have my SBR with an EOtech, I just can't dedicate the funds to a specific 3gun rifle. I still shoot my glock 19, I just have a few magazines with basepads. I bought a Mossberg JM 930 for under $600. Start with whatever you have, borrow what you don't. If you shoot other competitions (USPSA or IDPA) see if your friends have stuff you can borrow. I found that people were very generous and helpful. If you just want to see if you like it, but only have a pistol and rifle, still go to a local match and sign up. You will lose a few points for not hitting all the targets, but you get a chance to see what it is like. I always bring extra ammo to a match, just incase someone needs to borrow a shotgun or rifle. Generous people helped me become addicted, and I just want to pass on that same joy.
  23. I started with IDPA, then started shooting USPSA. In under a year I decided to drop USPSA, making my new firearm choices much easier. I am still rocking a Glock 19 for USPSA while I save up for a project/race gun. Like many others said, shoot with your 19 for awhile, see what sports/types you end up liking the most. Also, like others have said, the STI eagle with a bushing barrel is legal in IDPA.
  24. I run a set of Prana climbing pants. Yes, slightly hippyish, but they are super comfortable, breathe well, and most of all, STRETCH! Helps with all the squatting and other odd positions we get put in.
  25. But with the Sig...you pay $1,500+, rumored $70 magazines...is it really worth it? Yes, CZ will take a bit to build an aftermarket, but at that price point ($850) with mags under $30, it will develop. And for some, it will be the factor that it is "different." I am currently saving up for an SBR upper in 9mm. Anyone know if you can run a Geissele trigger with a ramped bolt?
