  1. It’s about optics in revo. Or adding a division- optics/open revo.
  2. Perfect. Bring them all in.
  3. I’d love to see these companies market to competition shooters. Sponsored shooters, vendor demos etc.
  4. I’ve shot a few. You aren’t missing anything. We would see more if they were priced competitively with the Smith and Ruger offerings, but I don’t think anyone would be replacing the current popular guns with one.
  5. No, the cylinders are different lengths and so is the opening in the frame window.
  6. I think we can collectively answer any questions about it here. Here’s what we know so far- -It’s in SLO/Morro Bay June 20-23 -Sign ups will be on Practiscore this week -It has 5 divisions- Open, Limited, Heavy Metal, L6 and Retro -Renting a camper and having it set at the range for the long weekend are the cheapest (and most fun) accommodations
  7. Yeah something hot probably. Be a good bowling pin barrel on a 627. I’ve been working on a couple 6.5” 625 projects for heavy metal. I’m doing a full lug 6.5” gun and a 625-7 Light Hunter barrel. I’d also really like to find Hunter or Stealth Hunter barrels to make heavy metal guns from too.
  8. I’m actually keeping an eye out for some competitor barrels.
  9. I don’t. Seems to work fine for me without it.
  10. The way I am making the barrels currently it’s a carbon tube with end cap that’s threaded 1/2x28 on the end. (See the lower 617 in the above picture.) Rather than a cap someone could use some type of front sight that screws on- a cap with a cut for a sight, a longer cap that has one of the Bowen/Weigand style front bases, or make something else. I haven’t gone down the road of making anything, yet. Currently I don’t see how to make something that looks good, functions well and works for everyone. I would think a machinist could build a product that would work in some cases rather easy though. It’s on the white board (along with mailing a 929 to toolguy for a project, theorizing with Sean, and drywalling my reloading room…) but the people who want them now are working on them solo.
  11. I do. And yes they are. Pictured are both an “old style” carbon barrel on a 929 and a “new style” on a 617. These are actually .355 where the factory guns are all larger.
  12. Carbon is the way to go! 9oz off the nose…
  13. Alright. I’ll make a plan with Rich and we will put something together.
  14. I could be persuaded to if people found that interesting? Rich and several other guys are shooting the match in 1 day on Friday. Should be a good race- even if we haven’t touched our guns since uspsa nationals…
  15. It said Vortex on the right side I believe. He’s shooting a gun and dot that neither of his sponsors have released yet. A marketing move, and a decent one from what I can see. I also see a TK hammer, which would be cool if the factory released on a gun out of the box. I’d expect to see this video come up again soon from both Smith and Vortex when they release a new gun and dot. Vortex Compdot? Smith 927JM? Not sure if 329JM is the right move with previous ones being 44mag?
  16. Yes you want the 45 moon holders for 44 mag moons too. Don’t forget there’s currently a rule in the icore rule book that says you can’t shoot the same gun twice in one match in 2 divisions. I’ve never heard of that being enforced, but I think there’s conversation coming soon about that topic. Barrel length is subjective. Everyone has a different opinion. You’ll find the super squad at uspsa nationals with 5-6.5” barrels and iron sights. Same guns for icore limited. You’ll find successful open icore guns from 4-8.5”. Personally I think a 6-6.5” barrel is ideal for iron sighted guns. The visual relationship of sights, if sized properly, has the best appearance in that length. Guns with dots- it’s 100% personal preference. People “feel” that shorter guns move quicker. That’s completely a feeling, the timer says they’re the same. You’re not going to win or lose a match over an inch or two of barrel. Buy whichever gun you like best as that will make you more likely to bring it out to matches and shoot it more.
  17. So completely new gun? Did you send them a bone stock gun or did they move things over like sights and grips? Did it cost you anything? I’d have to go dig up the paperwork, but I’m pretty sure they did the most half ass repair on mine I’ve ever seen and charged me several hundred dollars and shipping.
  18. I have over 750,000 live rounds on one of those hammers and several million dry fires and haven’t seen it break. This is truly a unique case.
  19. See what you can get from Hogue for a set of N frame grips that match your 686. Lots of options to make them narrow like a K/L frame. More is always an advantage when we are talking about capacity as low as revolvers have. I’m not sure where you usually shoot, but I’ve never seen a match where the 8 didn’t have an advantage over a 7.
  20. You aren’t missing anything. Sometimes the RTS2 gets an update but I can’t tell the difference, and the slide ride has been around since about the time I was born.
  21. Pretty much what Warren said above (which reminds me, I need to mail that guy a gun…) I have a gun that’s at 9ish that shoots all the primers, with a factory rebound spring in it. Not sure it could do that without a lightened hammer. Firing pin and spring choice comes into play as well when talking about light hammers and primers close to igniting. I’m not sure I’ve seen anyone just swap a hammer and not smooth things out while they’re in there- the light hammer usually comes along with smoothing the rest of the gun out. And then there’s some people who can’t shoot a gun with a spur on it.
  22. I do not. But you can send me a PM.
  23. First weekend in October. It’s on a flyer for the new Smith plant in TN.
