  1. All I've used is coated bullets in my bullet feeder. I love it. I was really slow at seating bullets by hand. I get triple the output now. With the machine loaded up I can do 100 rounds in 5 minutes 30. I hate reloading so the time saving was worth the cash for me. I usually load 4000 rounds over a quiet weekend which keeps me stocked up for about 2 to 3 months. I'll shoot it all before loading again.
  2. I've actually got another one on the way due to an ordering mix up so it will be interesting to see the difference if any.
  3. Gave it a little tweak in the vice with a hammer and it seems to be working like it should now. It's a bit tight with 2 springs but feeds perfect with 1. It will still cycle with 2 and it sounds like it takes a few mags for the springs to settle so I'll leave 2 in for now. Hopefully I can give it a run tomorrow night. Fingers crossed all goes well. I had to borrow an extractor yesterday to finish a steel challenge match.
  4. I think it would be the same kit. Just a 5 inch slide on top. I've got double stack mags so I can use it on my trubor and edge too.
  5. It's mounted to the barrel which doesn't move. The tacsol kits have a removable sight rail. That comes off and I've fitted a cheely c more mount. I don't see the on the cheely website anymore but here is a link to shooters with a better photo. http://www.shootersconnectionstore.com/mobile/Cheely-Custom-Tacsol-C-more-Conversion-Mount-P2655.aspx I can switch between iron sights and the cmore without having to re zero the gun which is nice.
  6. Thanks guys. Those photos are a big help!
  7. I shot my first match on the weekend using a tac sol kit on a Trojan frame with a cmore on top.
  8. Thanks Doug. I shot the match yesterday with mini mags. No failures apart from me riding the slide hard on the first run. The slide didn't even open. If my open gun runs as well tomorrow I'll be happy.
  9. I've been having some extraction problems so thought I would try and fit an Aftec. I followed the instructions, put a radius on the fps but the extractor hook doesn't reach over enough to touch the case to put tension on it. Even with the fps removed it doesn't get there under spring pressure. It's an sti trubor in 38 super, not super comp. The extractor is for 38 super and I'm using 38 super cases. Any advice? Thanks Dan.
  10. Is that why I can't buy followers from speed shooters anymore?
  11. Looks pretty good. My first big match in open was a failure. Extractor problems all weekend. IPSC VIC SSM4 Sale Pistol Club Replay Mini XD:
  12. I tried this out this morning to see the difference on my new open gun before shooting it in a comp tomorrow. Using a predator tactical sideways cmore mount at 5, 10, 25 and 50. The gun is zero'd at 15. The ammo makes 160pf so it is destined for practise. I'm not the best shot in the world but there isn't much difference for me. All shots were fired off hand, the 10 yard shots were a bit quick so the group isn't very good. 50 yards was 10 rounds shooting prone and had 2 fliers 1 high and low. Looks like I need to move the dot sideways a little but the elevation is going to be fine for IPSC. In this one I aimed at the big black dot rather than the small one because it was hard to see.
  13. Has the grip Angle changed between guns? I've just got a new open gun with a sideways Mount and haven't lost it yet.
  14. You want to buy some brass? Cut ya a deal at $75/1000! If that is including post and the export permit sign me up.
  15. My first go at open division. Good times but my wrists are hurting a few days after and I can't attribute it to anything else. Hopefully it doesn't continue like this.
  16. I've had both and prefer my Trojan. I've not had a malfunction yet but it is in 38 super and I bought it used. My cz didn't malfunction from new at all either.
  17. A friend posted a photo on facebook with Eric working on his gun at the world shoot. I was surprised to see him doing that. A few people I know have met him and trained with him and all have great things to say about him.
  18. Just an update. I gave the kit the clean of its life last week and took the sharp edge off the barrel just above the feed ramp. I also didn't oil between the .22 slide and the barrel like I have been. Someone mentioned to run it dry so I thought I'd give it a shot. I ran 200 40 grain RN mini mags through it this morning with 0 failures. After that I got through 15 rounds of the bulk remington stuff I had before getting a failure to feed. After that I got a ftf every few rounds. It seems the case of the bullet gets stuck in the chamber and won't allow the slide to close. It might just be that the remington stuff is filthy and clogging up the chamber or the cases are out of spec. Ordered 3 more mags so I'll just make sure I clean it well and use the mini mags before the match in a few weeks. Thanks for your help guys. Dan
  19. I've not had trouble with the original version. It's no good for my 1911 though. Great for my edge and shadow.
  20. Man you guys are lucky. We pay $100/1000 for cheap once fired 9mm. Everyone picks up brass in Australia, doesn't matter what it is.
  21. I like my shot max but prefer to use a traditional timer to time others so I can hand it off to others. I can't get the spy mode to work accurately so if that is the feature determining your choice give it a 2nd thought.
  22. Any ideas where I can buy these from that will ship overseas? It's hard to get stuff sent to Aust. Brownells is good for things under $100 but they don't list the advantage arms gear. Thanks Doug, There is a sharp edge between the ramp and barrel there that seems to clog up by trimming the projectiles down. I will give it a polish. No marks on bullets I chamber and eject. It does it when I'm not riding the slide, I was hoping that was all I was doing. I gave it a good clean last night which was more thorough than previous efforts. I had to pick lead out of the muzzle end with a pick. My version has sort of a shroud that hangs over the barrel by half an inch, Im guessing to meet length requirements and it was full of lead that was hard to get off. 1 top end between 2 guns. I don't have to tighten the barrel down. It's just held in with the slide stop, the guide rod doesn't tighten on this version. Only half the slide moves, the sights are fixed to the barrel. Thanks for all the help guys. Hopefully I can get it working good in time for steel challenge next month. I slowly chambered rounds last night after the deep clean and it seemed to function better except when I had to hold the slide stop down to chamber the last round. This would give me the 3 point jam every time so maybe that is mag related. Also once the round wouldnt chamber completely, it appeared that the round below it got onto the feed ramp at the same time so the top round got wedged against it and the top of the chamber.
  23. Hey guys, I bought one of these a while back as a trainer for my STI trojan. I've put probably 1500 rounds through it so break in should be complete. In nearly every mag I get a fail to feed in both my trojan and my double stack edge. I use tacsol mags in both. Same kind of problems in both kits. It either doesnt seat the round fully in the chamber so I have to push the slide home or it gives me a 3 point jam where it jams on the top of the chamber, feed ramp and bottom of breach face. The 3 point jam requires me to dump the mag to rectify it. These kits seem fairly popular and some people have expensive race guns built around them and most say their conversion eats anything. Can anyone give me some tips on how to achieve this kind of reliability? I need to buy 3 more mags to compete in an upcoming steel challenge event but I'm wary about spending another $300 on it only to have jams at the match when a ruger 22/45 is around $400 and should be spot on. I'm in Australia so gunsmiths are few and far between and nobody I know has the same kit. Thanks, Dan
  24. I started shooting IPSC about 12 months ago. Here are 2 video's of larger matches Ive shot recently. I shoot classic division minor. 1911's above .38 cal were only very recently made legal for IPSC classic division use which is a great leap forward for us. We still can't use anything over .38 in the other divisions which sucks a bit. There are still lots of things to work on. I always seem to have 1 really bad stage which throws my whole match out of the window.
