  1. it's a total tribalism. there is no rule anywhere in the rulebook saying your gun and hands can't extend through a port. people want to give a PE for it because they think it would be a bad thing "in real life" as it exposes you to someone taking the gun from you possibly. and that's all. it's a person's idea/opinion of a bad tactic "in the real world" and so they want to give a PE out for it. again, a tribalism and not in the rule book. not in idpa and not in uspsa.
  2. And this is why I now carry a printed copy of the rule book in my range bag with the most common screw ups highlighted so I can set people straight right then. No opinion or "I think so...", but the hard facts of a rule book. If there are gonna be rules, know 'em and follow 'em. If not, be prepared for me to teach you them. Which is fine, 'cause sometimes I'm wrong to and then I get to be the one shown the right way. Still, I think you should yell "cover" at him while he is shooting a few times. Payback's a med evac, right?
  3. Do it back to him. Very loudly yell "COVER" while he is shooting and them ask him how it feels. And to back it up, Steve is right. The reload is done when the mag is fully seated and the slide forward. Just have the other mag stowed before you shoot again. A la what everyone does on stage three, string two of the classifier.
  4. I shoot major matches to test myself against other shooters across the nation. That's why I pay my own money to fly from CA to North Carolina, Massachusetts, Arkansas, Alabama and all the other states I've shot major IDPA matches at in the past two years. Some I win my class and some I bomb horribly. I don't care about winning locally, so I need to go other places to be tested. To me, winning is most important. But if I'm choosing two matches to fly to and I know one has a prize table and one doesn't I'm more likely to choose the one with the prize table. I just shot a great match at the North Carolina State IDPA championships a few weeks ago. Great stages, super fair SO's. I wont my class and got a match bump. All good things, but the award was a printed certificate (not a plaque or something more durable) and there was zero prize table or anything. Good stages, good people, I had a good result but I doubt I'll go back as the take home rewards (actual and potential) were kinda underwhelming compared to others I've experienced. This will sound horrible, but I don't always even like guns. But I always like winning. I don't have a ccw or some other 'real life' reason to shoot IDPA. I do it solely to satiate my competitive desire by beating other people when I've done my best. I practice 5 days a week and shoot a match somewhere every weekend. If score wasn't kept and positions of finishing recorded I wouldn't do this. At all. But that is just me and my personal way of going about it. Most people who shoot IDPA don't feel the same way I do and I'm cool with that.
  5. I am 100% for sponsored shooters in IDPA. And having shot a sanctioned match or two now with no prize table I can tell you I will never shoot them again.
  6. Funny how you don't see threads in the uspsa shooting forum about how people who also shoot idpa hate uspsa and how dumb it is........
  7. After finishing almost last in my class, i'm afraid to show any video. Congrats to all who shot well, you deserve it!
  8. using armorall on my mags and in the magwell up inside the grip. painting a white dot right inside the magwell opening to give me a quick visual reference. two blue mags and lots of practice out in the garage.
  9. 36 is the predicted high temp for Saturday? I'm guessing that's not in celcius...... Dang it. I'll be frozen in place. See you there (flights willing) and looking forward to the challenge
  10. Been using The Blue Bullets 125gr lead round nose 9mm projectiles. They ship them in small usps flat rate postal boxes. My CZ loves them. I need to do a shorter OAL though for my G34's Barsto barrel to like them though.
  11. Hyperbole on my part. I still see nothing wrong with how match bumps are used to promote people. Hell, in uspsa I'm overclassified as a B so not sure that system is fool proof either.
  12. If anything my experience shows that uspsa underclassifies people. I can't count how many times I've seen people shoot nothing but alphas as a B or A limited shooter and then they get to the classifier stage and all the sudden are shooting two or three mikes. At least half the USPSA shooters I have seen purposely shoot the classifier as poorly as they can and not get publicly shamed for it.
  13. shot out of a cz75b and a glock 34. 147gr round nose extreme. win spp. mixed brass. 3.2 titegroup. 1.140 oal. .377 crimp (shot maybe 10k of this load) 125gr lead round nose The Blue Bullets. fed spp. mixed brass. 3.6 titegroup. 1.130 oal. .376 crimp (shot 1k of this) not as smokey as lead to believe. both of these loads i have shot and had chronoed, always right around 130pf.
  14. my barsto barrel took me about 6 months to get. semi fit. chamber is the tightest of my 9mm guns. i noticed better accuracy at distance with the barsto. never have had reason to call customer service. shoot 147 plated and 125 lead out of it. installed in a gen3 glock 34. i won the barrel at a shoot, so i didn't spend my own money for it.
  15. I know really! Thanks for the updates. Sounds like a super challenging match.... Starting to get nervous.
  16. I like the old style of Comptac holsters before they made the switch over to kinda making the International their main model. I don't find the Int. to be a holster I want at that price point. The old/traditional style Comptac belt holster, of which I have like 4, I would wear forever and plan to. The new one, meh...... Comptac, Safariland and Bladetech.
  17. It costs me almost just as much to go to Alabama or North Carolina or Arkansas as it does to go to Washington. The field of competitors is deeper in my opinion in the South. So I go there, compared to doing stuff closer to where I live. I wouldn't shoot a match that didn't let me wear my gopro on my head or let friends take pictures of me.
  18. My 75b has a magwell and i really enjoy it.
  19. In the competitive world to the "big dogs" idpa is less important than uspsa. Vogel left the idpa nats early so that he could shoot the uspsa nats last year. And in uspsa you get prizes based on finishing order rather than the rule dictated random in idpa. Uspsa has more matches, more shooters and more "status" as a competitive shooting sport. So, first you have to get them to shoot a major idpa match. Then you have to get them to travel to the west coast to do it. Extra travel, no prize, not much recognition, the chance you might lose, smaller matches and I can see why they don't. Until you can actually pay the rent from shooting idpa state matches the big dogs just wont really go to lots of state matches. How many shooters do you think can get sponsorship covering travel, entry fees, lodging, ammo and gun? You'd need that level of support plus some sort of incentive bonus from your sponsors for winning. I think a contingency program like seen in motorcycle racing would change things drastically. But the rank and file idpa member I don't think really cares that much about competition so much as having a good time. To paraphrase Scott Russell, "I may not always like guns, but I always like winning." If there weren't scores and awards I wouldn't shoot idpa. For me it is all about the competition. If you're already a big dog, you already have a good resume. Winning a state idpa match, no matter how well it's run isn't going to boost your career at that stage. But if you had the chance to make money....... that'd change the story.
  20. ff423, yeah, the pima pistol club will be holding it this year. here is the form, http://az2014.pimapistolclub.com/field/files/registration.pdf
  21. The Glock Store isn't far from my house.... I wonder if they have one they'd let me check out...?? Since I can't buy a gen4 gun in CA easily, that's why I even have to ask.....
  22. 9mm 1911s seem to rule esp. i also think that's the only place they fit under the rules in idpa. when i was picking a purpose built esp gun, a 9mm 1911 was the first thing i considered. i bucked the trend with a cz75b sao, so we'll see how that goes. here in CA the most popular 9mm 1911 is the Springfield one, as it;s on the roster.
  23. I shoot west coast matches. But I am not big dog, just a pup. I think it's just a matter of perception to be honest. IDPA seems to be bigger in the south and east. Also the depth of talent seems to be greater there as well. Since none of the shooters you mentioned live west of the Rockies, why bother flying out here for something perceived to be less than matches closer to home. Until the west coast gets something like the Carolina Cup, Masters and other regional level matches I doubt you'll see the big dogs out west much unless they have something like a class to sweeten the deal.
