  1. twister, which red dot did you put on it ?
  2. +1 on what BeerBaron said. Only possibly to add an XL firing pin if you are reloading with harder primers. Put several hundred rounds through it and let it break in. After that if you want, polish a few trigger parts lightly, and maybe replace a spring here and there to lighten up the trigger pull, all of which is listed on how to do that throughout this forum. Then proceed to shoot the heck out of it.
  3. Yes . Large frame grips, get the size specifically for the magwell. Great looking gun and excellent grips.
  4. jrosario, you won't need an expensive Loctite remover. As mentioned above anything from a Heat gun, pen torch, or an oven at 500 degrees for 7 minutes, will loosen the hold. You'll be fine.
  5. TennJeep1618, nice work, very inventive, and it came out great.
  6. BeerBaron agreed , and the V12 is not a quiet gun to begin with, especially indoors. Sometimes painful. That's why seeing that gun spit out 12 grains was interesting.
  7. I've never gone that high with any powder, but I will be careful if I decide to try it out. Thanks for the info.
  8. Are you running Small Pistol Primers with the 11 grn ?
  9. Primers are Federal or Winchester Small Rifle , 1.250 OAL. I've never seen that amount of sparks exiting the nose, I've watched it a half a dozen times and it doesn't get old, lol. It really looks pretty flat shooting. But the person running it would know exactly what is truly happening and if the dot was leaving the glass.
  10. I run 10.5 grains of 3n38 behind a 124 grn RN out of my Tanfo 38 V12, with no flat primes, but it doesn't do that.
  11. I'm with open1215, 12+ grains ? R.Elliot what was the load in that gun, and what recoil spring were you running with it ? That was cool to watch. I will go out on a limb and say it did make major.
  12. I agree with Sarge and R.Elliot's observations, and also that everyone perceives recoil differently. And the strong shooters have figured out the timing and grip on there personal guns.
  13. If you have the Elite Match, I'm pretty sure you have a straight 4.75'' barrel in it, but someone with more knowledge will chime in. The Stock I and II , Limited and Gold Team have Cone Barrel lockup's on them. So if your intention is to run a 9mm barrel in a .40 Match slide, then contact EAA and tell them you have a 9mm Elite Match that you want to get a new 9mm barrel for. They might ask for the serial number on the gun, but you can just tell them that you don't have it in front of you at this time. If you give the serial number to them, it will show up on EAA's screen as a 40. Also consider picking up a 9mm extractor, just in case if you have any issues. Some have had no problems running a 9mm in a 40 slide, others have had to tune a little to get it to run reliably. You can get the 9mm mags at EAA also if you want. But there may be someone on here that is willing to part with what you are looking for, and save you some coin. I would try here first before going to EAA.
  14. TXMXRACER you can put an add in the classifieds in the EAA/Tanfoglio buy sell trade, for what your looking for, or you can go to eaacorp.com website and see what they have in barrels and or complete top-ends.
  15. kernelofwisdom, That's incredible, what a difference. Thanks for posting those pics.
  16. blacklab, no problem. It really helped me out when I practiced / dry fired with the full weight of the gun. I started to see more consistency when drawing and finding the dot. However, once in a while, I still do lose it. Like Hi-Power Jack said , practice practice practice.
  17. blacklab, Are you able to load up a full magazine with dummy rounds, to simulate the weight of the gun when practicing your draws ? That helped me considerably when dry fire practicing and finding the dot.
  18. atlas: I like your idea of using the 2011 w/o the barrel ports, as a test mule for trying out the individual comps. Were you also considering, if it's possible, to use the same load every time, to see if there's any significant difference ? I know this is some-what of tricky situation for you, because people know that every gun out there has it's own preferred set-up to run it's best. So my hat's off to you for taking on this testing of compensators. Also IMHO, as mentioned above, I still do not think you should use the Ransom Rest in this situation. I believe it's a great tool for testing bullet accuracy. But when bolted down, does it show the recoil that also comes straight back into your hands ? ( On a side note, It's a little bit difficult to bring a Ransom Rest to a match and shoot all the stages with it. That just doesn't seem to be very practical in a practical shooting application. ) It's been discussed on these forums,( many times before ) , that different people perceive recoil differently. Some prefer more recoil in their hands, and others prefer it to go up instead, ( whatever that feeling might be, or mean, to that individual ). Personally, I don't want a bolted down machine telling me how the recoil is going to feel in my own hands. I prefer to pick up the gun and decide for myself if this is how I want the gun to respond. I think the direction your going in works just fine, and I can see in the videos how the guns are recoiling and how they are returning back to the target. In my opinion this is a great little overview of how different comps react on the same simple platform. Fine tuning an individual set-up, on a specific gun, is for another chapter all together. Keep us informed on how each comp's recoil is perceived in your own hands. Thanks again for taking this on.
  19. caspian guy, not a problem, I got caught up in watching the gun recoil also. It's cool to see how different guns react. I would like to see if the full size guns shoot a touch flatter compared to the shorty's. I kinda think they will, just because of the little bit of extra weight. But every gun is set up differently so you never really know until you try it out.
  20. caspian guy there is a grid on the wall behind the gun, yes it could be bigger however in this situation doing the testing in an open indoor range, this is actually a pretty good setup and gives people a look at how the guns are recoiling in atlas's hands. I'm not sure if a ransom rest is a good idea do to how the guns are held. Maybe a sand bag to see how high the gun lifts up off of the bag , but there might still be too many variables. IMHO, just keep the guns in atlas's own hands, so that his personal grip pressure stays the same on all the testing, and then people can decide for themselves which combination of gun, load, recoil springs, etc. is shooting flatter. It's always good to try different combinations to see what is possible, and find out which feels best in your hands.
  21. List it in the Classifieds under the EAA/Tanfoglio Chop Shop Buy/Sell/Trade, someone might have a 10mm barrel or even better a complete top end.
  22. Take a look at Speed Shooters, they show it on a c-more mount, but I don't think you need the c-more mount to use it. They say it comes with the M4 screws, which might be to long as you suggested , but you can file them down to your preferred length if necessary.
  23. The Alliant powder line is a good powder. It has been described to me as possibly having abrasive properties to it. Not quite sure what that means, and also not sure if that was with all the Alliant powders. From what I've heard is that after several thousand rounds, a few competition shooters, and for whatever reasons only certain barrels, were showing signs of wear, just how accu9 described. But still, INMHO, if you like the powder keep using it, and just keep an eye on your barrel to see if it starts to show any of the signs of premature wear. And also watch out for the busses when you cross the street.
  24. I agree with jacob0, If you do get one, just shoot it for a while. They really aren't to bad right out of the box. ( just in case you decide to go another direction ), and if you do decide that this is the one, take your time, do some research and build it out. It will only get better.
