Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I installed the basepads on 5 wilson combat magazines and they fit fine. Would not fit on an 8 round ETM magazine however. Used them in two matches so far and they make a big difference. I just need to practice the reloads more with the longer basepads. Thanks everyone for the help.
  2. Thanks a lot guys. I ordered six of the .625 basepads and an ETM 8 rounder from Midway today. I will add the basepads to my Wilson Combat mags and try the ETM. If it works as the next coming like the reviews say I will probably add the base pad to it as well. Bad part is if this works I have less of an argument with my wife for another 1911. Hope they come before the Sunday USPSA match. Will let everyone know how it works. Thanks again.
  3. I am not familiar with this basepad. Where might I find it? Thank you.
  4. I wonder if others have this problem and if so what they have done about it . I shoot a customized Colt Series 70 in Single Stack and CDP. I use Dardas 200 grain LSWC. I should add if it matters that the gun dates originally from Vietnam years and started as my sidearm out of the box (hence I am in the Senior category). The custom work is a couple of years old (trigger job, barsto barrel, slide tightening, fiber optics with bomar sights, extended mag release, mag well, etc.) and the gun is very accurate and otherwise reliable with my loads. Essentially all of the internals have been replaced. Here is the issue. I have a real problem seating 8 round Wilson Combat (not ETM) and McCormack magazines in the gun. When I load either mag with the slide closed I have to significantly bang the mag for it to seat and substantial pressure is needed on the mag release to eject it. The McCormack is actually worse. Take out a round and they both seat easily as do all of my 7 round mags. But If I insert either 8 round mag with the slide open it will easily seat and release. Makes reloads dicey. Have not tried Tripp, Mec-Gar or Les Baer 8 round mags. I would like the extra round especially in Single Stack if possible. I know the 1911 was designed for 7 rounds and that the 8 round magazines have greater spring compression. Question is should I keep trying and order a set of Les Brown, ETM and Mec-Gar from Brownell and one from Tripp to see if any work or just live with 7+1? I guess my thought was at make ready load 8+1 and then use 7 rounds for reloads,. Of course I will be carrying 5 or 6 mags for single stack. It appears from other board that this is not an uncommon issue at least for Colts. The final option is I buy another STI in .45. (have one in 9mm) which has the obvious advantage of adding another gun, assuming the 8 round mags will work in that gun. But the Colt has sentimental value and other than the mag issue I have it where I want. Thanks very much for any help or comments
  5. Think I misposted this in wrong forum. I practice with approved paper USPSA and IDPA targets and appropriate pasters using corrugated cardboard as a backer. I can buy the actual cardboard targets for $62 hundred at Target Barn plus shipping. Was going to order some when I saw 250' rolls of 24" wide (same size as the paper targets) rolled corrugated cardboard at a nearby moving supply house for . Doing the math with a 34" long target I get 88 target backs for $24 with no shipping or $27 per hundred . On the other hand I need to cut them which doesn't seem like that big a deal. Seemed from the picture sturdy enough to hold the paper target but has anyone ever tried it? At my club I can practice alone indoors but only with a clip on cardboard target and there aren't many around other than PPC season. Here's the question. Anyone ever do this? Will the carboard unroll enough to support the target or am I going to get a semi-circle (or store them long enough to get rip of the roll)? The store also will custom cut cardboard sheets but the cost is more than the targets. Any suggestions will be appreciated. I am tired of recycling beat up cardboard

  7. Usually use 200 grain LSWC for CDP and Single Stack but I have a bunch of 185 grain sitting around from bullseye days. Know my old 4.2 of bullseye load won't make major but would appreciate a starting point using either Bullseye (My preference), Titegroup or W231. Have all three. Will be shot through a Colt Model 70 5" 1911. The manuals have a lot of data on 200 grain but most information on 185 is for bullseye shooting where it is the standard. I do not shoot bullseye anymore but would like to try and create a major load for this bullet. Thanks.
  8. I have been loading 9mm for about six months on a Dillon SDB for a G34 and a STI Trojan. Had some feed problems with the STI but they have gone away. The Glock has been worked on by Doug Jones (see the last two issues of Front Line) and he tightened the slide and recently installed Dawson FO adjustable sights. Use it for USPSA Production and IDPA SSP. The STI is for ESP and PPC. Problem is I am not achieving very good accuracy with my loads in the Glock (as opposed to the STI). Get better accuracy with WWB or UMC factory. Using bullseye powder and have tried 4.2 and currently 4.6 with 115 grain Montana Gold FMJ and an OAL of 1.135. I will likely place an order for the 124 grain MG CMJ since many people I shoot with report better accuracy with the larger bullet. Here is my long winded question. First, what gradations should I be using to play with OAL--i.e. currently use 1.135 and previously 1.155. Is is enough if I go down to 1.10 and then go to 1.120, 1.135, 1.145 and 1.155 or do I need more precise intervals? Also, do Glocks prefer any particular OAL? As far as powder I though I would go down to 4.2 and then .2 up to 4.8 (Max in manual is 4.9). I think I can make minor with 4.2. I then plan to do the same process with Titegroup and then with the 124 grain bullet. BTW do not seem to have any feeding or related problems with the loads. I know I have to experiment and play with the loads but it does get very confusing with all the information out there. Looking for a process so I can have a consistent measurement. Thanks for the patience and help.
  9. I like my Square Deal but the manual has sparse (to say the least) instructions on cleaning and lubricating the press. Other than wiping it down I have not really done anything. I load 9mm and will be setting up a .45 conversion kit which will give me access to the shell plate. I assume I will then do some cleaning with something (not sure what) but I am am not quite sure how to clean the powder bar or other mechanism. I use it fairly regularly. Any help with respect to cleaning and lubricating (as simple as possible please) would be much appreciated. Thanks and happy holidays.
  10. I love mine as well. I have loaded about 1500 9mm for my Glock and STI with no problems. I do have a question that I would appreciate help (or a link) with. The manual has sparse (to say the least) instructions on cleaning and lubricating the press. Other than wiping it down I have not really done anything. I will be setting up a .45 conversion kit so I can get to the shellplate but I am am not quite sure how to clean the powder bar. I use it fairly regularly. Any help (as simple as possible please) would be much appreciated. Thanks and happy holidays.
  11. Anyone have a problem fitting Safariland 773 mag pouches on the DA belt? Currently had to really open the width to fit on my Galco belt and I am concerned if the DA is wider they will not fit. Use Blade Tech DOH holster and would not expect a problem with it. I like the idea of the thinner inner if the mag pouches will fit. Thanks.
  12. I bought 5,000 from Weidner and so far (loaded about 1000) no problems. Seat fine and no failures to fire in a glock and an STI.
  13. Wonder if anyone can give me some help with reloading for my 9mm Trojan. I am using 115 grain Montana Gold FMJ bullets with once fired brass, mostly winchester, winchester small pistol primers, 4.6 grains of bullseye and a COL of 1.55. Loaded with a Dillon SDB. I started loading for this gun with a much shorter COL, 1.13 to 1.15. Experienced reliability issues (FTE mostly) and called STI. The reloading person in Texas suggested a much longer COL, close to the max. Better but still some issues. I will keep trying with different length, charge, etc. but I wondered if anyone else has experience with this gun in 9mm and what works for them. I use Wilson Combat and Springfield magazines. Thanks a lot.
  14. I am tempted to send my G34 to S&J Customs (www.sjcguns.com) for the production package. Any experience or suggestions? Should I pay extra for the competition trigger job (brings it down to 2# I think)? I shoot production C with the 34 using Warren/Svigney Competition Sights and some trigger work. Thank you for any help you can provide.
  15. I love my 9mm Trojan (from Brazos) especially after some trigger work. Easy to shoot, accurate and Wilson ETM's work with 10 rds. Use it in IDPA. Here is the problem. I don't reload for the 9mm (yet) and have been using WWB or commercial reloads (115 gr fmj) from Michigan Ammo, a supplier to a lot of police agencies. The WWB works great. Today I went to the gun club and tried the Michigan Ammo in the Trojan and in my Glock 34. Worked great in the Glock but had three cases in the STI that stuck in the chamber after firing. Had to work hard to get the slide back and then used a pencil to remove the case. Thought it was an abberation so I tried a couple of rounds. Anyone else had a similar problem? Any suggestions? Since I can't get any WWB I guess I will need to start reloading for the STI.
