Changing Powders in my .40 S&W load after 25,000 Rounds
glockdude1 replied to Jim Rusert's topic in 10mm/40 Caliber
Sounds like a Chevy vs. Ford debate...personal preference I use both W231 and Titegroup...neither one fills your shell casing very much, so you have to be very careful every time you pull the handle I am switching to N320, since Christmas came early last week when Precision Reloading emailed me and said that they were shipping me a 4lb. jug of N320...definitely brightened my day...they are sold out already -
I would think that the Dillon equipment with the accessories would be about $500 used and the G35 would be $550 used and the CR Speed belt should be $150 used.. If I were to buy these used, that is what I would expect to pay

Load up 10 rounds of different loads, using the same OAL.... Go to the range and start with the highest charge that you loaded and work your way down...Note: do NOT clean your gun before you test these loads..you want to simulate a match where you have put 50-100 rounds down the pipe... When you get to a load that will occasionally not chamber, then you have gone too low in your charge, even though the recoil is really soft From that point, go up .2 gr and there is your load.. Works every time

Montana Gold wont let you pick up anything at their warehouse....they said that you had to order them on their website, even if you are in Kalispel

+1 on Bayous....shoot great and are 10 cent a round

Lead 180gr TCFP not chambering in M&P or STI
glockdude1 replied to ncox38's topic in 10mm/40 Caliber
In the future, call Bayou and they will size them down for you...great company to deal with.. I told them that I had a very tight tolerance in my STI 6" Limited gun and they did not charge me extra for sizing them down and I haven't had any misfeeds.. I am surprised that your won't feed in your M&P...maybe try a shorter OAL -
Bayou 124gr RN bullets are awesome...NO SMOKE since they are coated well, and they are $70 for a thousand and $252 for 3500 of them...cheap, accurate and clean.....great company to work with also.....

xtreme 200gr plated or 200gr bayous for my .40 load?
glockdude1 replied to Mike21STI's topic in 10mm/40 Caliber
Extreme 200's are nice bullets and are Ok as far as price goes and they shoot well, BUT Bayou 200's are great bullets and are about 10 cents apiece and DO NOT smoke....I have a custom 2011 STI 6" Edge, with very tight tolerances, and Bayou sized down my order of 2,500 so they would feed better in my Fusion barrel...great company to work with also.. -
The best are the MG 180 JHP's..they are dead accurate.....they are the choice to make major PF Some other preferred ones, for softer recoil are the Bayou 200gr RN's...it is a coated lead bullet that does not smoke and Bayou will size them for an exact tolerance for you and they are a lot cheaper than jacketed...or try some 200gr jacketed flat-points from Precision Delta......both of these are bullets for fun shoots and bullseye fun, where you don't have to make major PF

Who sold you the 48 pounds?

I would try some 200gr bullets (Like Xtreme or Precision Delta Flat-points)...there will be less muzzle flip than if you shoot 180gr bullets in major..

Load and powder for 40 cal major and minor
glockdude1 replied to jimbullet's topic in 10mm/40 Caliber
I second the vote on HP-38, which IS W231....doesn't burn quite as clean as N320, but it will get you both minor and major quite easily.. On the Viht. data load, they don't even show N320 as an option, since you would have to reach the danger zone to make major...they have N340 listed for major -
I separated my brass this morning on my 40 S&W brass...I have a question.. On the Winchester brass, I have both the name "Winchester" stamped on some of the brass and I have an equal amount of brass stamped "WIN" Should I further separate these, or is it OK to mix them together, because they are both Winchester brand?

I am running an STI Edge with a 6" barrel, Fusion barrel.. My load was.. 5.0 grains of HP-38 200gr Precision Delta FMJ FP OAL is 1.198....my gun likes longer OAL's My FPS were.. Low of 907 and High of 960 and a 10-round average is 924.6 FPS This might be a normal deviation...I don't know for sure.. I am a newbie to a chrono, but I am not new to reloading...2 years under my belt there..
-
I would think that 50 fps is a lot of deviation..isn't it?...I am new to chronographs, so maybe it isn't bad.....after I shot a few rounds of factory ammo, it was within 1 fps, and I know that reloading won't get me that close, but a variation of 50 fps I would not think it is acceptable...maybe it is....you experienced guys can tell me, please Thank you

I just bought a new CED ProChrono....yesterday I tried it for the first time... I started with factory ammo to test the accuracy of the unit...it was spot-on accurate Then I started running my reloads through and the readings were fluctuating by 10 PF....I tried different loads on both 180gr and 200gr CMJ FP's and it still fluctuated a lot.. I load with a Dillon 550B....is there a reason my reloads are that far apart?? HELP!!
-
haven't had problems yet either...I bought some 180gr. pulled flat-points from Rocky Mountain Reloading..they are CMJ's and they are great...I shoot a custom STI with a 6" barrel

New Chrony F1 erratic readings
glockdude1 replied to glockdude1's topic in Chronograph Equipment & Techniques
I went out with my Chrony and did everything you guys recommended...new battery, a no-shoot target velcroed to the diffusers, and shot at 12 feet instead of 10 feet... Nothing seemed to work...my first shot had an error code, my next shot registered, then my 3rd shot did not read at all.. I gave up and took it back to Cabellas, who gave me a refund, and then an hour later I got on Amazon and ordered a CED ProChrono....hope it works better Thanks guys
