  1. I spoke with Doug Carden on the phone a few months ago and he recommended the Universal for my 45..it just took me 3 months to find some Universal...
  2. My reload book only has regular Clays numbers and not Universal... I bought this Universal because it came highly recommended by a respected member on this website..a gentleman named Carden Thought I would take his advice.. Loaded some up at 5.1gr at 1.25 OAL and it seems good, but is pretty dirty.. Just wanted to know if anyone else has a recipe..
  3. I am just trying some Hodgdon Universal for the first time and need some recipes for.. Nosler 230gr HP RMR 230gr HP plated ..and.. RMR 230gr RN plated Thanks guys.. I am shooting a Sig 1911 45acp
  4. I am in Spokane, Washington....I will obviously pay the freight to get it to me...Thank you
  5. Since the hoarding scare happened, I am having a hard time finding a store that has Clays Universal.. Does anyone know of a company that has any right now, or does anyone have an un-opened pound or 4-pound jar they would sell?
  6. I agree... 115 plated is not good accuracy....been there/done that.. With bullets being hard to get, place back-orders with several companies for 124's and they will start trickling in..even MG will also.. I was down to my last 30 bullets and placed orders with 6 different companies (in desperation), and now, 1 month later, I have 6,000 bullets..some are plated and some are jacketed, but the plated ones work fine for plinking at 25 feet... Here is who I ordered from and got ammo... Montana Gold..I told them to send whatever they had in 124's and I just got FMJ's... Rocky Mountain Reloading....got plated 124's HSM (Liquid Metals Co.)...got 124 plated Roze Distribution....got 124 HP's Precision Delta...124 JHP's Nosler...124 JHP's The most accurate bullets are definitely the Jacketed Hollow Points (they hit clean and make a nice round hole in your target)...they come out of a barrel with less wobble, due to the way they are balanced...the second most accurate are the Jacketed Round Nose..the least are the plated, because they wobble coming out of the barrel (you can see the "hit" pattern on your target).. ..I am only talking non-lead bullets...now lead SWC's (wad-cutters) are really accurate, but that's a whole different subject..
  7. I do know that JHP's are the best, but MG di not have any to send and I was desperate to get anything they had in a 124gr weight... I will go out and re-test at 50 feet, which is the max distance at our indoor range.. Thanks guys
  8. I have been shooting with MG CMJ 124gr bullets for quite a few months now and they are great... Since Montana Gold is having such a shortage, I asked them to ship me whatever came in first..FMJ or CMJ....they sent FMJ's this time... I just loaded up 15 of each and headed to the indoor range to see if I noticed the difference in accuracy... I set the target at 25 feet for this test.. I ran 5 of each with my elbows resting on a bench I then ran 5 of each in my normal stance and shot them within 20 seconds I then ran 5 of each in my normal stance and shot them within 5 seconds I took notes and scored each stage, and the CMJ's were much more accurate than the FMJ's in all the stages..... am I imagining this or what?? I used 4.1 gr. of Titegroup on all of the loads and used the same brand of brass.. Is there any sense as to my tests tonight, or are the CMJ's more accurate because of the way they are balanced coming out of the barrel??
  9. Good advice guys..thanks... I am a little worried about chambering because I do reload with a 550B... I would think the aftermarket barrels, with the tighter tolerance, would be better with factory ammo, but not with reloads... I don't shoot lead, so maybe it might be futile to buy an aftermarket one.. But, would a KKM barrel be more accurate with factory ammo?
  10. I need some feedback guys.. My G34..gen4 shoots great with the stock barrel... Would accuracy improve by getting a Lone Wolf, KKM, or Storm Lake barrel? I saw the topic on what barrel feeds the best, etc., but it didn't say anything about accuracy... What do you guys think?
  11. HP's are weighted and balanced differently than the RN and leave your barrel with less wobble...definitely worth the extra money
  12. Thanks for the input, guys.. I called Dillon last week and the tech went over everything with me and concluded that my 550B was running great, with no problems.... I asked him what he would recommend me doing and he said.."Quit using Unique" I wish the guy that trained me on reloading last October would have told me to check EVERY casing to make sure the powder metered...expensive lesson!!
  13. I have been running MG CMJ with N320 at 1.140, out of a Glock 34 and it works great
  14. I have tested a lot of bullets and the HP's are more accurate, hands down....it kind of surprised me that they were...maybe the bullets leave the barrel a little differently than the RN's....when I first started shooting some matches, I always wondered why the experienced competitors had the more expensive HP's.....it is well worth the extra money..
  15. Thank you for the explanation "Justsomeguy"....makes a lot of sense....there definitely is a trade-off between softer recoil and less accuracy and then a snappy recoil with more accuracy...I have run Titegroup and N320 in my 9mm G34 and it seems like I get the best results with those powders...PLUS, a lot of shooters on this forum like those powders...I haven't tried Silhouette, but a lot of guys like that also..just hard to find right now....
  16. Found one that Novak makes and they had them in stock...Thanks guys
  17. I desperately need an adjustable sight for a S&W 5906..Gen 3 Found one that Novak makes and they had them in stock.. Thank you
  18. Sorry latech15...my wife said that I am hard of hearing...too much Ted Nugent in the old days and too many rounds fired...will heed your advice next post..
  19. I just bought a pound of Unique in October and my reloading set-up is in my office (priorities, you know), so there wasn't any moisture...maybe my 550B just doesn't like bug flakes for powder....the Titegroup, N320 and W231 all metered without even 1 empty casing...yes, I do double-check every casing for powder before putting the bullet on...expensive lesson for me, unfortunately...
  20. I use a dryer sheet every time I pour new powder in.... I have loaded thousands of rounds with other powders and never had a meter problem..just with Unique.. Maybe it is because the flakes do clump... The weird thing is...when I get an empty case, the next time I pull the lever, it puts in the correct weight of powder.. I don't get it...
  21. For explanation, see the same topic under 44/45 category..
  22. I have a 4 month old Dillon 550B and my first powder I bought to reload 45's was Alliant Unique powder... 3 months ago, I blew my new Sig 1911 Match Elite up because the Unique powder sometimes does not meter ANYTHING into the shell and when I was new to reloading, I wasn't looking into each casing to make sure the powder dispensed, and I had a squib (not hearing it during my match) and then the next round blew the barrel up...we finally got the barrel yesterday, after waiting 3 months to get one from Briley...I now check every casing very carefully... I switched to different powders and they ALL metered just fine...Titegroup, N320, W231..never have had even one problem.. I did not want to waste all the Unique powder I had, so I loaded up a bunch of 9mm rounds yesterday, and 1 out of every 100 rounds I loaded, THE UNIQUE DID NOT DISPENSE ANYTHING INTO MY CASING...good thing I was looking... My Dillon 550B works flawlessly, but I would not recommend anyone buying Unique powder!!!!
  23. I just bought some at Cabellas tonight....they didn't have any 2 days ago, but they did today..try your local Cabellas....the suppliers are shipping small quantities to their big dealers and you have to check with them every day and you might get lucky...Good Luck
  24. I got ahold of Doug Carden yesterday and he told me that the faster burning powders will be more accurate with a 124gr JHP or CMJ/FMJ...your HS6 probably has less recoil and feels more comfortable to shoot, like the W231 I use to run..
  25. Have any of you done extensive tests to see if certain powders are more accurate than others? Need some feedback, please
