  1. I got into reloading 3 months ago and drove myself crazy by switching to powders that someone highly recommended, only to notice very small differences in accuracy, recoil, etc....until one guy chewed me out and said to "Just pick one and start sending them down-range".....I took his advice and I am glad I did....I was waking up in the middle of the night thinking about what powder I should go with, and now I am getting better sleep... As long as they go "BOOM", they work.....just pick the grains that feel best for you and go with it.....remember, too soft of load with hardly any recoil, feels good, but is not that accurate when shooting timed-courses....you want some recoil so the sights drop back down quickly for your next shot.. Have fun and good luck...
  2. I posed this same question 2 months ago, and most replies said NOT to deprime first...they said that fine particles of media will work their way into the pocket and the new primer may not seat properly..... I took their advice and left the primers in when I tumbled them and have shot thousands of rounds without a problem... I would think that you will waste a lot of time taking them out, tumbling, and then cleaning the pocket with a tool, when you could be pumping more rounds out of your reloader...
  3. That is very good advice....it does seem like everyone has their opinion and their opinion has 100% conviction with them... I haven't tried the 147gr bullets, so I will give them a try and then pick a load and powder and start sending them down the range.... I like your analogy with golf clubs...I am a hard-core golfer and I tell all my non-shooting friends that shooting is just as frustrating as golf because one day you shoot like crap and you don't know why...same with a bad day at the golf course.. Thank you
  4. That is a loaded (no pun intended) question, since there are a lot of variables with load and bullet weight...it is extremely confusing since, if you ask 50 people, you will get at least 25 different answers and everyone is convinced that they use the best... I would suggest that you pick a powder, try it will different combinations of bullet weight and load strength, take good notes at the range and then GO WITH IT and keep sending them down-range...otherwise, it will drive you nuts trying to figure out who is right...
  5. I bought a box of Berrys 124 bullets and loaded different loads with 231 powder and went OAL at 1.115... The most accurate was the 4.2gr of 231..... I started with 4.0gr and went as high as 4.8gr...the 4.2 was softer recoil and dead-on accurate... I just got a case of MG 124gr CMJ bullets, because everyone says that these are the best, so I will be curious to see if I feel any difference between these and the Berrys....
  6. I had a Glock 22, which was a great firearm, but the recoil was very strong (my Glock 21 45ACP had less recoil than the 22), and my accuracy was not as good as my Glock 21, or my Glock 34 (which is the most accurate of all the Glocks). I would think that you could be fairly accurate if you were reloading your ammo and go with a light load, which would cut down on the recoil, or go with a heavier bullet, which would also lighten the recoil... If you could sell your 22 and get maybe a Glock 35, you would be more accurate..

    G34 or G17

I had the gunsmith at Sharp Shooters, in Spokane, do the trigger work....he has a way to rework the existing components to lighten the trigger and make it as smooth as butter....only cost $50..
  8. I shot a lot of different combinations and some loads with 124 bullets were a little more accurate... Have you noticed a lot of difference between the 115gr and 124gr bullets?
  9. glockdude1

    G34 or G17

Definitely go with the 34...I guarantee that if you shoot them both, you will go with the 34...better accuracy and less recoil....I had my 34 trigger redone to a 3.5 lb trigger and it is a lot of fun to be that accurate... I also have a 19 for carry, but I never shoot it, since the 34 is so much fun... Forget the price difference between the 17 and 34....once you buy ANY gun, you always forget what you paid for it anyway, but when you take it out of your bag, will you be 100% satisfied, or always wonder???
  10. I am new to reloading...been at it for 3 weeks now... I have been driving myself nuts trying to figure out my load combination for my Glock 34 to shoot in non-steel competition (indoor shoots) My preference would be less recoil, but not so much that I get jams once in awhile because the spent shell won't eject fast enough.. I have tried both 115gr and 124 gr jacketed bullets... I am using WW231 powder and have tried different load combinations... Is it true that fast burning powders give you less recoil?....I thought that it was the opposite... A lot of you guys like the VV N320, but it sounds like its' too hard to get, so I want to stick with either 231 or WSF.. Please give me your recommendations for lower recoil, not too dirty to shoot, no spent-shell jams, and greater accuracy....
  11. All of your suggestions are much appreciated, guys...Thanks.. I switched powder to 231 and am visibly checking every casing before I put the bullet on, and I haven't had a squib since....I am pretty sure that it was my fault, probably when I had a primer jam and didn't get a full load, or something...
  12. In the Lymans 49th edition book, Unique powder is to start at 4.4gr for a 115 bullet and goes as high as 5.2 (if I remember)...4.5 was on the light side, but it should have been OK...
  13. Thanks for the tips, guys.... I loaded 40 rounds with WW 231 Ball powder, and I inspected every casing before putting the bullet on top.. I just got back from the range and everything went fine.... I will check the powder measure every once in awhile to clean it out, AND I will fill the powder measure 1/2 way to give the powder a little gravity weight... Great help guys...Thanks again
  14. A lot of good info, guys....where would I get VV N320?...does Cabellas sell it, or do I have to get it online?
  15. I have a feeling that the Unique "flake" powder may have jammed and may not have deposited the correct amount into those casings, and I did not visibly check each casing before I put the bullet on... So, today I just went and bought some WW231 "ball" powder and am visibly checking every casing for powder.. Thanks for the feedback, guys!!
  16. I may try changing to the WW231...is that a ball powder?
  17. I started to do that with my loads yesterday, but how common is it that the Dillon 550B will not deposit as much powder as it is set up for??...it had to have a little powder or else the bullet would not have even gotten 1/2 way down the barrel... ..and why would the casing have burnt powder residue all over it? I am very confused...
  18. What would be causing my reloaded 9mm to "squib" twice in the past week???...in both instances, the bullet was lodged half-way down the barrel and had to be pounded out...both times, I had to eject the casing and it looked burnt more than normal.. I have a new Dillon 550B reloader and am being extra careful to pull the handle the same every time, and I will weigh a sample of powder every 25 rounds.. The first squib was with this load... 115gr Berrys jacketed bullets Wolf small pistol primers 4.4gr Alliant Unique powder 1.09 OAL The second squib was with this load... 124gr Berrys jacketed bullets Brand new Winchester small pistol primers 4.5gr Alliant Unique powder 1.119 OAL Any suggestions, guys...HELP!!
  19. I have both a 19 and a 34 I bought the 19 first, changed the trigger to a 3.5 lb. pull, and added a magwell to get my hands up high.....loved the feel of the gun, but did not shoot with the greatest accuracy.. Then I tried a 34 and have not looked back since....changed to a 3.5 lb trigger and added a magwell (for faster mag changes)....much more accurate because of the longer sight and less recoil... I don't shoot my 19 much anymore, but it is the perfect carry gun and nightstand gun... I shoot my 34 in GSSF matches and fun-shoots, so accuracy is very important to me...I still love my 19, but not in matches..
  20. What would be a good powder, that isn't too dirty for 115gr loads? ..and for 124gr loads? I don't think I want a fast-burning powder (like Tite Group)....a slow burner would be better as long as it isn't too dirty
  21. I just got a new Sig 1911 45ACP... I am using WW231 powder and 230gr Berrys bullets.. What load combinations and OAL work for you guys loading with WW231 powder?? Thanks guys!!
  22. What is a good load combination for a Glock 34/Gen4, using WW231 powder with 115gr bullets? with 124gr bullets? Please include the OAL that works best for you... Also, will these load combinations work with my Glock 19/Gen 3 or should I use a different combination? Thanks guys!!
