  1. My first match shooting Limited had two 22 round stages which I was the only Limited shooter to clear them without a reload. It felt pretty awesome to rack open the slide on an empty chamber. Our MD likes to design stages where the shooter can choose to play it safe or push the envelope with no makeup shots or reloads. It's fun to hang it all out there knowing you're in for a standing reload if you screw up.
  2. Evan, The pre travel screw is sticking out too far. This is the top screw on the face of the trigger you should be able to get to from inside the frame with the slide off; turn it counter clockwise a quarter turn and all your problems will go away.
  3. That's so weird about the 550, my buddy and I load on a 550 and it dropped exactly (obviously within +/- ~.02gn since we're using a beam scale) 4.9gn of Unique each time I checked (every tenth round). Maybe we've just got the best 550 powder bar around!!!
  4. I dig it; increases the feel of control during recoil. I like Unique especially for Production loads with a 124gn bullet. For Limited I just tested 200gn TC lead bullets loaded to 1.196" with 4.9gn of Unique averaging 835 through a 4.75" barrel for 167PF.
  5. ^^^ That's the trouble with choosing a small, light pistol to match small hands, they generally kick like mules! I bought a S&W model 60 .357 for my wife because it fit her so well, but even I didn't like shooting it loaded with .357. I shot the Ruger LCR ONCE; that little thing is like a firecracker going off in your hand
  6. I believe the CGW short reset kit is for pistols with a firing pin block.
  7. Well then the 97b trigger might be the one for you too! I've never seen the 'old style 85 combat trigger so I can't compare it to the 97b, but I'm pretty satisfied.
  8. After firing the first few rounds through my Custom Shadow, I decided to do a little more customizing myself (the SRT is awesome!). I installed the CGW trigger return spring, firing pin return spring and the 11.5# hammer spring before my first shot, but after I installed the 97B trigger for a little more reach and while I was in there polished the sides of the trigger bow, the corresponding points of contact on the frame and the grooves on the bottom of the bow where the spring rides. A ten pull average trigger weight came up with: 5lb, 7oz DA and 2lb, 4oz SA. Using Winchester small pistol primers I had no light strikes, so I might push the envelope with the 8.5# spring when I get around to it. Here are some pictures comparing the two triggers: My hands are on the biggish size (10" from tip of pinky to tip of thumb) and I think this DA reach is just about as far as I want to go, but the SA is much better now.
  9. Yea, if you did specifically order the 'old style' I'm pretty sure you have the new one, which is the shorter reach of the two. I think the shortest reach trigger you're going to be able to get is the re curve 75 trigger: This one is the stainless available from CZ USA: http://shop.cz-usa.com/P-0420011135/Trigger-Stainless-75.aspx Although I feel confident there are many on this forum with the standard trigger who would be happy to trade with you. You might also consider thin grips as well to shorten your reach. I have the opposite problem, so I just changed my 85 trigger for one from a 97B.
  10. Is yours the original 85 combat trigger or the current style?
  11. It looks like a really fun project, I'd love to feel the recoil impulse of a super light projectile going REALLY fast!
  12. Melting pennies and casting bullets? I like it!
  13. 9 Major with 115s and no comp? That must be a snappy little beast.
  14. The baby eagle is very similar, but with a thinner grip from front to back so there's less trigger reach. My wife likes it because it's full size with enough weight to soak up recoil.
  15. That's a little to bling bling for me.
  16. That's the one I'm referring to too That's the one I'm referring to too. If you read the description it says "The kits fit standard full-size Witness models" The Tanfo terminology can be a bit confusing at times, but here's a short glossary: Frames: -small frame - capable of chambering .22, 9mm and .40 only (current models) -large frame - capable of chambering .22, 9mm, .40, .38 Super, 10mm, .45 (and just about any handgun cartage). Prior to 2005 38/10/45 guns were large frame, 9/40 guns were small frame, but in 2005 EAA started importing all calibers in large frame format, then came the "Witness Classic" small frame 9/40 and the large and small poly guns (I think small frame polys are denoted as "PS" but don't hold me to that, I've never seen a poly in person) -standard and compact - refers to the length of the grip Slides: -compact - 3.6" barrel -standard - 4.5" barrel -longslide - 4.75" barrel -Hunter - 6" barrel small frame slides house barrels with an OD of 14mm and large frame slides house barrels with an OD of 15mm Mike beat me to it
  17. Asphirosis, If what you have is a large frame Match with a 4.75" barrel you need to just forget you ever saw that 9x21 comp kit from Numrich, t is for a small frame with a 4.5" barrel. Are you clear on the difference between large frame and small frame? For what is worth I have fired 9x19 Major ammo out of a 9x21 barrel without blowing myself up, not tens of thousands, but a handful. The groups were nothing to brag about, but that could have been due to the fact that this particular barrel had been reamed pretty aggressively. The other thing to worry about is that the only thing keeping the round from slipping into the chamber is the extractor so if to gets past the extractor your stage is over.
  18. I shoot with a guy who has a gun set up like yours and he makes a fist and catches his index finger on the sight to rack it. I do the same thing with the rear sight on my CZ.
  19. One thing to think about if you put the racker on the opposite side from the thumb rest (or no racker at all) is how the pistol will balance on the thumb rest. When I take my racker off, the back of the gun tips to the table and the muzzle points skyward.
  20. Feather Industries AT9: Upsides: very light, very accurate, Uzi mags Downsides: the trigger is cheesy and they're no longer made.
  21. Personally I think the whole "+P"/"+P+" thing is just a marketing ploy, I searched the internet for some advertised +P and +P+ loads, and everything came to right around 150PF, standard, el cheapo 9mm bulk ammo rides around 135PF.
