  1. Hammerli for sure, I shot a Hammerli Standard Pistol and a Walther Rapid Fire Pistol in the Junior Olympics. They're a cut above the rest.
  2. Jasco: http://www.wmbarr.com/product.aspx?catid=102&prodid=209
  3. I've put Teflon tape on the threads and I don't recommend it. I shreds as you screw on the comp and pushes into the first chamber. Are the threads machined down where the set screw touches? Is the set screw pointed or cupped at the end?
  4. I'll agree .40 load options for the TS are limited, but I've really enjoyed shooting 9Major out of my Open TS. I load 1.165" without any problems; I've recently started playing with a large frame Gold Team upper on my Hunter, but loads over 1.140 hit the rifling!?! It's strange because my old small frame Tanfo will shoot the same 1.165" loads as the TS. It might be time for a chamber ream on the GT...
  5. The space between the hammer and breech is longer on a large frame slide. I have called EAA regarding small frame long slides and been told they do have some in stock, but I never ended up ordering one. I have seen a small frame long slide ordered from EAA which has the new, wide serrations, but I'll bet it would be a crap shoot.
  6. Maybe someone will confirm, but I believe the Tanfoglio Super Sight is the same cut as the Bomar.
  7. You've got a point, it looks like the dovetail on the Match is in the same location as the dovetail on the super sight and is just as deep. I guess I could weld it up, but that seems like more trouble than it's worth. The best option might be this fixed rear from Henning: I wonder how my TS rear compares to the Match dovetail???: I know the TS dovetail is wider than the super sight, but I haven't compared it to the match yet.
  8. I'll let you know when I'm done fixing it I bought the pistol used and it had the wrong size spring and screw in the sight. Needless to say I'm in rehab mode. If I can find someone local, I might have the slide milled for the super sight, then install the fixed rear from my TS I love so much (that is IF I can find a front sight tall enough to work).
  9. No, it's my Match upper on my Hunter. I also have a Gold Team upper for it:
  10. As far as straight barrel vs cone fit, the big difference is the weight at the nose to counter muzzle flip. I've never shot a Limited, so I can't compare, but Nealio has said he cant tell the difference. I don't think the difference is as significant as between a bushing barrel and a bull barrel in a 1911. There was a time when Henning sold some heavy bull barrels to replace the cone barrels in Limiteds, but no more.
  11. In theory, the polygonal rifling produces higher velocities with all else being equal, although I have let to verify this empirically. In fact, I was working up a load simultaniously in my Hunter (6" polygonaly rifled barrel) and in my Kimber (5" traditional rifling); I expected the differences to be dramatic given the longer barrel AND the polygonal rifling, but the Hunter only averaged 0.5%-1% faster for most loads and actually slower for one load: 230 LRN loaded 1.222" over 3.6 grains of Clays averaged 782 fps through the Kimber and only 762 through the Hunter. I might attribute this to recommendations I've heard against shooting lead through a polygonaly rifled barrel; maybe the lead built up during the session and slowed the bullet down??? I don't know... A better comparison might be my CZ (5.1" standard barrel) vs my Match (4.75" polygonal barrel):
  12. I've never heard of this Gary, can you explain the phenomena? Is this just a 10mm thing? I have always seen the back of the slide polished and radiused to reduce the resistance to the slide's initial movement???
  13. Polygonal rifling vs standard rifling? or cone fit barrel (Limited) vs straight barrel (Match)?
  14. Here's a crappy cell phone picture for a teaser: More to come on these two once I have some time to do more testing with loads/comps.
  15. My long slide 10mm conversion was definitely traditional rifling:
  16. This is it right here.My question is: with smaller loads of faster powder and more case capacity, how long is too long (when you stop getting reliable ignition) ?
  17. Yes, I just loaded some 147g TC bullets over 2.9 grains @ 1.1" for a steel match tonight. I haven't had a chance to chrono them yet, but I'm thinking ~125pf. I'm not a big fan of 700X, but I didn't have time to work up a load, so I just used a book load with a powder I had available. The last time I loaded 700X is was with 125 grain plated bullets and it was pretty harsh; I prefer Unique.
  18. I got a cheesy plastic case with my new Hunter, but a locking hard case with my Match.
  19. I've only loaded 9 Major with plated bullets: Xtreme 124s and Berry's 135s. Why? because that's all I could get my hands on, however I have enjoyed great accuracy and no problems with the plating peeling off. I think people who have problems with plated bullets are using too much crimp, mine is .378" (just enough to stop bullet setback). Given the results I've seen with plated bullets, I don't see a reason to ever go to CMJs if I can help it. Besides, I've already spent those extra pennies on the mother load of SP2!
  20. I have an SP01 Shadow with light springs, short reset trigger and a CZC action job which is about the best you can get with a DA/SA and it's not even in the same ballpark as my Tactical Sport. The Shadow trigger pull is about 5 1/2# DA and #2 1/2 SA, whereas with the race hammer and light polishing the TS is a crisp 1 1/2# with just over 2mm of travel from stop to stop. No center fire pistol I've handled comes close. I even have a Tanfoglio with Henning's trigger, race hammer and Huening's roller plunger; it's just as light, but with much more travel. Any of the 75 series pistols can be converted to SAO using the TS parts and have a very crisp 2 1/2# pull, but the TS has a unique trigger bar which enhances it's potential. If the TS is too much money, I suggest you get a plain Jane SP01 (or 75SA if you prefer the short dust cover), convert it to SAO using the CZ SAO race hammer (when you can find one), remove the firing pin block and have CZ Custom cut it for whatever sights you want.
