  1. The reason I didn't show any pictures polishing the disco is because I used the CGW disco which comes smooth as glass: Since the factory discos are rough I recommend hitting the top of the wings where the rub on the sear cage, the bottom edge of the hooks and the pin hole.
  2. I have tons of springs and it's gotten too cumbersome to keep track of load ratings, so I've started just measuring the coil diameter, please feel free to add to/correct any of this: Recoil springs: 10# - 0.0385" 11# - 0.0390" 12# - 0.0400" 13# - 0.0405" 14# - 0.0415" Long Hammer springs: 8.5# - 0.0335" 11.5# - 0.0375" 13# - 0.0390" EAA Short Hammer Springs: 13# - 0.0285" 14# - 0.0315" 15# - 0.0315" 16# - 0.0315" 22# - 0.0345"
  3. With all the parts I have I've lost track of most spring weights, so I started recording the coil diameters, feel free to add if you have more, I'll cross post this in the Chop Shop for future reference: Recoil springs: 10# - 0.0385" 11# - 0.0390" 12# - 0.0400" 13# - 0.0405" 14# - 0.0415" Hammer springs: 8.5# - 0.0335" 11.5# - 0.0375" 13# - 0.0390" EAA Short Hammer Springs: 13# - 0.0285" 14# - 0.0315" 15# - 0.0315" 16# - 0.0315" 22# - 0.0345"
  4. Welcome to the dark side I have a dozen iron sighted guns collecting dust in the safe, there's no going back!!!
  5. This game is about having fun right? Different people have different ideas of what is fun and definitely see different results from different strategies. To me it seems more frustrating to burn down the stage then go looking for your hits. Reading this thread got me wondering what percentage of the points I really am shooting so I looked back at Saturday's scores: six stages - 96%, 93%, 99%, 93%, 98% and 95%. The nice thing is that I keep seeing improvement, I'm getting faster, better at calling shots, better at shooting on the move. Last month it came together nicely and got my first couple stage wins; one with 95% of the points and a 8.15 HF!
  6. Now you're cookin' with gas! Send me your email address and I'll email you an excel spreadsheet of all my HS-6 data
  7. I haven't had any problems shooting my TS frame/SP-01 side/TS barrel combo, but I'll report back on my SA fame/SP-01 side/TS barrel combo.
  8. I just took a closer look and I think I have it figured out: it's the Australian barrel - 120mm (4.72") Pictured below are the standard SP-01 barrel (114mm - 4.49"), the extended one you linked to (120mm???), and the Tactical Sport (130mm - 5.12") barrels respectively: After I posted this I realized they're all scaled to fit the same width on the CZ USA web store, so I downloaded them, scaled them the same and overlayed them: I think I'm right with my guess Speaking of barrel lengths, some of you will notice the lengths I quoted above don't match those advertised by CZ USA and CZC yet they agree with the CZ UB catalog and reality. I've discussed this inaccuracy with our stateside friends, but told I was right by Angus and Zach at CZ USA who promised me the 2014 catalog would feature the correct measurements, but alas inertia prevails
  9. I chrono'd my first gun with a hole in it this weekend and it shot much faster the expected. Experimenting with holes I didn't want to drill too many and destroy the top end so I just drilled one now I wish I had chrono'd before to get a baseline because this 4.75" Tanfoglio barrel with one 3/32" hole shot the same velocities as my 5.1" CZ barrel. With so little detriment I plan to drill two more holes, I'll be interested to see the effect on velocity. One day I plan to make a chart to extrapolate the effects of different variables in reloading: barrel length, popple holes, OAL, bullet weight and charge weight.
  10. The CZ UB mag well on my standard frame works that way, I just assumed the TS one would work the way the factory one does...
  11. That's strange... I would switch to the flat one then: The CZC mag well has a hole for the pin just like the factory plastic one.
  12. OK, so the CZ UB TS mag well doesn't use the factory plug with the pin in it?
  13. I've never seen that before but I'm interested . Buy one and find out, CZ USA has a good return policy.
  14. The PF formula is not very scientific, I think 'feel' correlates more with kinetic energy and slide velocity. I've shoot the same platform (CZ/Tanfoglio) in many calibers (9, 40, and 45) at the same PF and I can tell you the caliber makes a BIG difference because the lighter bullets going faster have much more kinetic energy. For example, three loads at 165 PF: 9mm 115gr @ 1435fps - 526 ft lbs of energy .40 180gr @ 917fps - 336 ft lbs of energy .45 225gr @ 734fps - 269 ft lbs of energy
  15. The term "popple hole" referrs to ports drilled in the barrel, compensator ports are more efficient, but the barrel holes provide a little extra resistance to muzzle flip. The trouble with these holes is that they bleed off gas while the bullet is still engaged in the rifling, so the reduce the velocity; there is no universal answer to how much, but it still has an effect.
  16. What length recoil system will you use? 5" with the reverse plug sticking out?
  17. I send people to steel first because they can start at the low ready and even a first timer can win if the just don't miss! USPSA is a points per second scoring so there is advantage in some sacrifice for speed, but if you miss in steel (and most of those really fast guys will!) you won't win so just focus on making each plate ring.
  18. I shot Olympic style rapid fire pistol when I was a kid which is generally shot one handed right to left, so that's how I end up shooting, but in a steel match I alternate from string to string to see which feels better.
  19. Joey, The thread pitch of the factory barrel is M14x1, the barrel extends ~.5" past the slide (it's actually 5.1" not 5.4" as advertised by CZ USA) and the bolt pattern is different from Tanfoglio, Matt Cheely is the only one I'm aware of how makes a replacement mount do the CM.
  20. No, keep the plug in, it holds the mag well on.
  21. Do you have another pistol to shoot?9 Major is not going to be safe with powders that fast and bullets that light. Anyone local to trade with? Try to get something #40 or slower: http://www.hodgdon.com/burn-rate.html
  22. I just chrono'd today, I misspoke above it was 3.2gr of Clays under a 115gr Xtreme at 1.150" made 112 pf through a 4.75" Tanfoglio barrel.
