  1. Clays will work great with a 115gr plated bullet (Xtreme can be had pretty cheap if you buy 25K or more). 115s are pretty snappy so most USPSA shooters use heavier bullets but by all means, shoot what you like
  2. Lester, That would be a great motivation for me to get my sight tracker TS finished, you're on!
  3. DOH! This is me, hitting forehead, not having even considered the sub-forum when I posted this.
  4. The Standard IPSC would make a great Open gun project because the serial number is further back on the frame so you can chop back the dust cover much further without disturbing it. Send me a PM if you get going on that project and we can talk ideas!
  5. My quest for flatness isn't even really motivated by faster splits or better scores, it's more about a personal challenge and advancing my favorite platform. I've said many times USPSA is four hobbies wrapped up in one: shooting, gunsmithing, reloading and gear collecting; i really geek out on the gunsmithing part most of all
  6. This is why I love this forum! It's a place where us mere mortals can come rub shoulders with the giants in the sport and the industry
  7. I'll agree with that Desmo, I some spring tuning left to do, but I'm pretty happy with my load: 115gr at ~175pf I have a few compact slides I want to experiment with, as well as some slide lightening.
  8. I'll agree there are much better options for 9Major; at 8.4gr there was a lot of noise, a big fireball and general unpleasentness all to only achieve 165pf?!? I've pushed 115s to 181pf with both HS6 and SP2, both were pussycats by comparison. I got a pound of long shot in trade just to play with, but I think I'll load up the rest for steel at about 150pf.
  9. I've toyed with the idea of .357 SIG but every time I talk myself out of it because of the hassle/expense of loading it, if I want more case capacity 38SC is an easier step. All in all I'm pretty happy with 9 Major, I think I just might like to try a shorter/lighter gun for a while (although my 52oz CZ is pretty smooth )
  10. I have three kids and a company to run! But I do hope to get some projects completed this year and offer them for sale. If you have anything particular in mind I might take a request I'm really addicted to the build so once I have something all dialed in I end up setting it down to work on something else. Althoung I'm thinking about commissioning some local shooters to shoot my guns and help me identify any areas for improvement. I really don't want to let any of them go without a significant amount of trouble free trigger time on them.
  11. I had a Gold Team in 9mm and found it made 8% less velocity with the same load as my CZ Open gun because of the 12 holes in the barrel (since then I've discovered my CZ barrel is even a little slow compared to my other Tanfo barrels). I've heard reports that the GTs have "soft barrel lugs" or "soft slides", but I don't think that's the case, rather that they require 8-10% more powder to make the same PF so GT owners are routinely loading rounds which would make 190PF in a barrel with no holes; I don't think and 9mm would last with a steady diet of 190PF. I think they would make better Open Major guns in .38, but you'd still be burning 10% more powder. Besides with all that powder blasting out the holes in the barrel combined with the small two port comp its pretty violent and hard in the hand. If you like the CZ75 platform I think the Czechmate is a good option, otherwise I would suggest something custom with no holes (or maybe just a few). I have a huge collection of Tanfoglio Open projects which I hope to thin down this year so I'd be happy to set something up for you.
  12. Very strange, did you take out the over travel screw?
  13. Since joining the dark side I have had a lot of fun building my own guns on the platform I love CZs/Tanfoglios), but since I had never shot an Open gun until I built one, it seems I'm never quite satisfied with how flat it runs. The more guns I build and the more comps I try I'm beginning to think guy who claim their dot never leaves the glass are imagining things. I poked around for some videos today and say these two and thought, "my gun's flatter than that!" Here are some videos of my shooting my gun (please disregard the shooting ) I've shot a few fancy 38 super 2011s with lots of barrel ports which surprised me with muzzle flip and started to realize a lot of Open shooters aren't very interested in making their guns shoot flatter Does anyone have any footage of a really flat shooting Open gun?
  14. I just chrono'd some Longshot loads with 115s @ 1.150" (you should be able to load that long in your Glock): - 7.7gr - 154pf - 7.9gr - 160pf - 8.2gr - 162pf - 8.4gr - 165pf My CZ Open gun weighs 52oz, has a 5.1" barrel and 8.4 felt pretty nuts; I wouldn't recommend going that high in your Glock, I'll bet it feels like it's coming apart with 7.5gr
  15. The hammer strut is on backwards, everything else looks normal.
  16. Gose, That's hard to pin down since I used different parts from different guns and may have the largest parts cache this side of AZ! I guess if someone wanted to start from scratch and build this, they could buy the following: -short dust cover SA Shadow - $850 http://czcustom.com/CZ75SHADOWSABLACK.aspx -Czechmate comp - $245 http://shop.cz-usa.com/ProductDetail/19207_Compensator-9mm-4-Port -TS barrel (CZ USA had the CM barrel in stock at one point but I don't see it now, plus it's about 0.18" too long) - $145 http://shop.cz-usa.com/ProductDetail/047004940706_Barrel-Tactical-Sport-9mm -Czechmate hammer - $90 http://shop.cz-usa.com/ProductDetail/40108_Concealed-Hammer-Sa-Only -Czechmate racker - $36 http://shop.cz-usa.com/ProductDetail/550047000001_Slide-Racker-For-Tsczechmate-Only -Czechmate CMore mount - $150 (I used the Cheely mount, but they don't seem to be in stock now) http://shop.cz-usa.com/ProductDetail/40100_Czechmate-Scope-Mount -CMore Slide Ride - $260 http://www.shootersconnectionstore.com/C-More-Slide-Ride-Railway-Black-CLICK-P1313.aspx -CZC mag well - $75 http://czcustom.com/cz75magwellidpa.aspx -Mag well mainspring plug - $35 http://czcustom.com/cz75fullsizemagwellplug.aspx -(3) sets CZC springs/followers/base pads to get the Shadow mags to 25rnds reloadable - $165 -(1) 25 round mag complete (to compare to the 3-20s and 1-26 you get with the CM) - $104 -Tax/shipping/FFL fees ~ $300 -Gunsmith labor to drill/tap frame, cut/thread barrel, fit comp ~ $500 Grand total - $2,955 Wow that's depressing Granted, you would be left with maybe $200 worth of parts to sell, plus you could save money buying parts used and doing the work yourself; $2K would be about the cheapest anyone could get this done.
  17. You played with my buddy Chris' CZs, I'll have to show you mine next time
  18. Right after I did this trigger job I did a video of the reset and just got around to uploading it: This is the SP-01 with firing pin block installed; it's also worth noting that this is the 97B trigger with no over travel stop screw, even less travel may be possible with an 85 trigger.
  19. Forgive me as I am not a 1911 shooter, but I know Henning made square stops to combat the early problems of cracked slides/frames on the 10mm Tangoflios; the idea was to delay the opening of the slide to dissipate more of the energy into the shooter's arms before unlocking the slide to avoid battering the gun. It seems to me it has the opposite effect of those mods.
  20. I used an airsoft comp which worked pretty well with factory ammo:
  21. Why not just have him shoot Limited??? Does he deserve to be punished? As far as I've heard he hasn't broken any rule thusfar...
  22. I say Limited, you can shoot to learn and bring what you've got, just make the appropriate division on the score sheet.
