  1. Back to the OP, try it with the stock barrel, super light loads with fast powder and just enough spring to close the slide. I think you'll like it.
  2. I've also used 100gr bullets over 10gr of powder in my Open gun for steel, it's flat as hell, but last time I took off the comp and shot 115s over 3gr of Clays and liked it much more Less noise, less powder and without the comp it really moves pretty fast. With that sub 100pf load the muzzle just flips up and back in an instant. I won't go back to a compensated gun for steel, might try ported...
  3. The effect of the hammer spring on pull weight is inversely proportional to the amount of polish work you've done. In other words if you've done a good job polishing, the lighter hammer spring will have little effect on the pull weight, it will however change the character of the break: the lighter the spring the more subtle the break, the heavier, more crisp.
  4. Very true, it's easy to go too far on dovetails
  5. I think they list the same LPA for CZ/Tanfo but the CZ dove tail is ~.3mm larger. I have a few EAA super sights to sell if you could use one. I'd also trade one for what you have there.
  6. You can trim the firing pin return spring to help with reliable ignition.
  7. What I want to know is what a minor comp would look like? Fewer ports? Smaller ports? The preliminary design above, is that for major or minor?
  8. I like the comp concept, like czhase mentioned the standard CZ 75 9mm with the tapered slide uses a barrel with an OD of 12.75mm while the TS, SP01, and Shadow 9mm use a barrel with an OD of 14mm. If you turned down a TS barrel and threaded it 1/2x28 it would be just right for the comp concept you've drawn there, plus it would also work with the CZC barrels in SP01/Shadow 9mms. What's your thought on keeping the comp from turning? Set screw? Loctite? Your xD comp uses a guide rod extending into the comp right? That's how I do my CZ/Witness comps, but also why I use SP01 slide instead of 75B slides.
  9. They are, CZC offers barrels threaded 1/2x28 or you can buy a TS barrel and thread it.
  10. I'd be happy to help with comp development
  11. Well said So many forum threads degenerate into "my preferences are better than your preferences" We're all crazy, but in the presence of others who have tens of thousands of dollars invested in a hobby we can feel 'normal'
  12. If you're shooting Major, I recommend a major backup. I'm not sure there's a strictly legal way to use a minor backup gun after declaring major; maybe someone more knowledgeable would like to chime in?
  13. Are you sure it's not your plunger spring giving you a mushy reset? did you try them independently of one another?
  14. Def not questioning that. We're wondering about the difference in value of very high-end arrows vs common arrows, given the same Indian As I am aware the barrels are exactly the same between the SP-01 (I know Mike compared three Shadows, but I think there's value in the inclusion of the SP-01), Shadow and the Accu-Shadow, the difference being in the slides. Here are the differences between an SP-01 and an SP-01 Shadow: -Firing pin block (the Shadow doesn't have one, so in stock form the trigger pull is lighter with a shorter reset) -The actual trigger (two different shapes and the Shadow trigger is drilled/tapped for over travel adjustment) -The Shadow features upgraded sights -The Shadow features extended controls (mag release and safeties) None of these differences contribute to the inherent accuracy of the pistol (although a lighter, smoother trigger pull does make it easier for any given shooter to shoot more accurately). The difference between a stock Shadow and a "Shadow Custom" is an action job preformed by CZC (also no related to accuracy). Finally the difference between the Accu-Shadow and the regular Shadows is the barrel bushing in the slide: the Accu-Shadow has a removable bushing like a 1911 which allows a tighter fit between the barrel and bushing. In the case of the standard bushing it must be shaped in such a way that the barrel can be angled down enough to clear the breech face upon dis assembly; I have found that the fit of the factory bushing can vary slightly within manufacturing tolerances so since the accu bushings are hand fit one at a time they should be more consistent in theory. I have limited USPSA experience as I only shoot local matches and the furthest shot I've ever been faced with is ~30 yards (but that was only once in two years), the bulk of the targets I shoot are 15 yards or closer, so for me, a stock service pistol is plenty accurate. If I were regularly shooting at targets past 25 yards I might consider an Accu-Shadow (and also interested in shooting Production which I rarely do...).

  17. Deano, what does your buffer look like, does it ever get chewed up?
  18. Am I the only one who thinks this 'accu' craze is getting a little out of hand? When a $500 CZ is fully capable of putting shots in the A zone at 20 yards I'm not lining up to spend 3-4 times as much money for small gains in accuracy...
  19. Brongy, how old was the barrel? Sounds like it was unlocking prematurely.

  21. The large frame Tanfoglios grip is almost identical to the small frame with only subtle differences in shape. Both are a hair bigger than the CZs because the checkering is cut into a raised panel, but not much.
  22. jdphotoguy, would you mind switching me to Open, I can't seem to bring myself to shoot any other divisions anymore
