  1. HS6 and CFE Pistol are in the neighborhood
  2. Long shot is not very tolerant of compression and doesn't burn very clean at the low end, so it wouldn't be my choice. If you work up a load with it and find you get lower velocity as the charge goes up you're already over the hump.
  3. I have both and prefer the Shadow; the CZ trigger mechanism has more potential for a light smooth DA pull. That being said, the Stock II has the advantage in ergonomics and sexy looks. Ultimately they're both great guns, the choice is yours
  4. I'll trade you The big blue ones hold two Open guns nicely.
  5. You're right about the decocker function: it lowers the hammer to half cock when you depress the lever, then springs back to rest. At that point you can simply pull the trigger for a DA shot, or re cock the hammer with your thumb for a SA shot. The decocker is a great feature for a carry gun to give you the safety of a DA first shot without having to manually lower the hammer on a live round every time you load up.
  6. Which powder/bullet weight are you using Matt?
  7. 38 gives you more case capacity so you can afford to waste more powder out holes in the barrel although once charge weights get over 10gr, the gun can feel pretty violent. In my favorite quote from Matt Cheely he said some short guns with holes are very flat, but so violent you can't see the dot lift, it just explodes, then reappears. I've got a gun or two like that
  8. It could be done, but you'd have to drill out the frame and use a bigger trigger pin (2.25mm for CZ and 2.75mm for Tanfo if memory serves).
  9. No, the Novak style cut on the Match is huge! I'm not aware of anything big enough for it (maybe you could use a Novak???)
  10. A lead 155gr RN at 1.1" over 3.9gr of Unique got me 134PF out of a 4.75" Tanfoglio barrel.
  11. The dovetail is slightly bigger (~9.3mm) than the Tanfoglio Super Sight (~9mm), as well as most 1911 cuts.
  12. Jack, I'm not exactly sure what you were trying to say there, but I edited my response for clarity: Longshot did not work well for me in my 9mm because it hit the point of diminishing returns right at 164PF in a 5.1" barrel with no holes. Each powder reacts a little different (and not necessarily in relation to their relative burn rate) when pushed past it's limits of compression ratio; long shot 'gave up' much earlier than others in a similar range. Here are my thoughts on "popple holes": they give some added down force, but at the expense of velocity, so you need more powder to get the same velocity, the general rule is more powder, more gas, flatter gun, but if you need to go to a faster powder to get enough in the case to make major, or you go to a 124gr bullet because 115s are just too violent, you're going backward, so in my mind, for every barrel length/twist combination, there is a perfect balance of holes where you can still use a whole case full of the slowest powder you can get your hands on with a 115gr bullet. Now, given the popularity of fast(er) powders like Autocomp, CFE pistol and Silhouette, as well as 124gr bullets, I'm sure plenty of people will disagree with me. There is also a lot of personal preference involved in between the balance of flat and soft. In the end, I've found my times are not greatly varied between my flattest gun and my flippiest gun, but are more influenced by the overall weight of the gun (trigger pull travel/weight also seems to have an impact) and above all else, the ability to get through an entire match without a single malfunction.
  13. It sounds like you're shooting 38 super right? I haven't done a ton of load development on Longshot, but it worked pretty well in my 38, not nearly as well in 9mm. n105 is awesome, but bulky, if the holes are too big you probably wont make major with a 115, maybe 124, can't go wrong with 3N38.
  14. Pretty good, I'd like to have another range session with my friends V12 (after coming up with major loads for each) side by side, but my fist session the Y7 was lighter and softer in the hand with about the same flip.
  15. Yes, the comp is aluminum. I'm leaning towards making the second port a little bigger still by narrowing the baffle between the first and second ports.
  16. I tested my first CFE loads this weekend and 7.9gr under an Xtreme 115gr @ 1.170" made 171PF in my 5.4" barrel with two 3/16" holes in it.
  17. This is not necessarily true, on Saturday I was shooting regular plate 115 Xtreme bullets at 1,492fps; I shot CM 99-59 and the 25 yard target had 5 As and 3 close Cs (4 shots were fired free style, 2 strong hand and 2 weak hand), so while I know they have the potential to be accurate at high velocities I still bought some heavy plate bullets from Xtreme and Berry's to compare sometime in the future. The case pricing is ~10 cents each for MG, but if you buy 25K+ Xtreme at a time (my local group buys a few hundred thousand per year) they're ~6 cents each.
  18. I'm going to resurrect this thread with some info I've gathered, I know it won't be much use to anyone in the US since Vectan powders are not being imported at the moment, but maybe this can be useful to someone abroad: I tested some conservative 38 super loads with SP3 over the weekend and the results were pretty laughable: 115gr Xtreme plated bullets at 1.24" out of my Y7 Gold Team (5" barrel with seven 1/8" holes), charges from 8.8-12.1gr. 8.8gr was my lowest PF 9mm load yet! 79PF 12.1gr (basically a whole case full) almost made minor at 123PF. I guess I need to find someone who loads magnum revolvers to sell the rest to It's a damn shame too, the powder is beautiful little spheres and meters perfectly.
  19. I got my Y7 Gold Team over the chrono on Saturday and was pleasantly surprised, 9.1gr of SP2 (similar to VV 3N38) under a 124gr plated Xtreme at 1.235" made 168 PF. I'm thinking there's enough meat left in the comp to make one of the ports a little bigger still, I just haven't decided which one yet... I'm also temped to make the holes a little bigger
  20. Welcome to the forum Kenedy! That trigger looks like mine by Austin Belhert in the old days, very cool. If you're interested in updating that gun, I have a 9x19 top end and horizontal C-More mount for it.
