  1. Great Deal Huston. I just ordered a 100 myself.
  2. I had failure to extract problems with HS-6 (8.8grns) this past weekend, I loaded the way to short and it caused problems. I just loaded up some 125 JHP zeros using 9.3 grns of 3n38 and an oal of 1.160. Going to the range on thur to try them out ( Man the case is freakin full @ 9.3 grns)
  3. Dave Very informative post. I changed the recoil spring the week before the match and used it for a match that weekend I changed it with no problems. I checked the chamber very close with a strong light and its as smooth as a babys butt. The unlocking early gets me to thinking , I was told by the gunsmith that the gun was built to run best @ 172 pf. I bought the gun for my wife and she has only run factory minor rounds through it. I put a 2lb lighter recoil spring in the gun for my wife to run the minor rounds and when I changed the spring I used the same weight spring. This is a VERY fast cycling gun and I just worked up the load for this past weekend the week before.. It worked fine then but I haven't had alot of experience with 9mm major because I always shoot my 38 super. I got am email from Chuck today that me order has shipped and should be here by wed. So with all this info I will start checking things out htis comming weekend Thanks for all the help.
  4. Dave its not my Bedell gun that was having the problem. That gun is a 38 super. I almost put in the first post that it wasn't the gun in my avatar then decided not to do it and of course someone jumped right on it. The problem was with my other open gun in 9mm.
  5. I was also thinking about high pressure making the case swell to much for the extractor to pull out the fired round. I looked at the brass and the primers had some pressure signs but not excessive. I was thinking about loading a little longer if the springs don't fix the problem. I did however try some of the rounds my wife uses (loaded to factory minor) and it did it once with those also. I have been reloading for 30+ years so I keep a very close eye out for excessive pressure. This is one of those things that you really just have to elimanate one thing at a time to find out the problem. In order to get to 166.4 I had to use 8.9 grns of HS-6 (Win Small Rifle primers) and I loaded short so I would make a little more pressue. The fired rounds have a very clear indent in the primer and no ridges.
  6. I have a open gun in 9mm Major (Shorty). It was built by a Very well known Gunsmith. This past weekend it started doing something that it has never done before. During 3 stages it would fail to extract the fired round. Now of course the first thing to look at is the extractor (an AFTEC). I took the gun apart checked the extractor and it would hold the loaded round against the breachface perfectly a very knowledgeable GM also looked and confirmed that there was plenty of tenision on the extractor. I could not find my bag of extra Aftec springs when I got home so I ordered a new extractor and extra springs form Chuck @SC. My question is there anything else I should check. The rounds are 166.4 PF using HS-6 loaded to a length 1.135 using spacers in STI mags. I ordered the new extractor just in case. What does everbody think????.
  7. Prize tables are cool, but if you win the big prize its going to be worth 500 bucks max. My last bullet order was more then that. DGSmith are you signed up for the Doubletap match? They use a bucket raffel and randon drawing prize table and it dosen't hurt the showing at this match. I don't know the exact count but there are like 25 GMs signed up for this match so what you said about the higher level shooter going to a match for a prize to sell dosen't hold alot of water. I know that Roberts prize table is not a popular subject with some but it's HIS match and he does it the way HE wants. THis match is already over 250 shooters and I would bet it will the the largest match in Area 4 this year other then the Nats in Tulsa. The big guys are like anybody else they want to come to a well run / FUN match and prize tables are not important to all the GMs because if it was so , then none of them would go to Doubletap
  8. I have a friend that gets his ammo (9mm) loaded by a commerical reloader and he buys 10,000 at a time they are 5.0 of 231. We ran them through a chrono about two weeks ago and they were going between 1190 and 1220. The only guns we use this load in open guns with supported barrels mostly. We have shot them in my Glock and they were fine. But you should always start low and work up to any load.
  9. I have both a super and a 9mm open gun and they are both great guns. I haven't shot the 9mm very much but I have a HS-6 load @ 168 PF that I am going to shoot at Doubletap. Lots of people will tell you about the cheap brass thing but if you only load a 9mm to major once and leave it lay the brass cost is about the same as picking up super or super comp. Super brass will last almost forever most people lose it before it wears out.
  10. We have two matches each month but we shoot the same classifier for both matches
  11. 5.0 grns should get about 1190 fps.
  12. Hey AustinMike I also have a JL Hardy Mongoose that my wife has been shooting and I have decided to shoot it at Doubletap. I ran some 8.6 125 zero JHP across the chrono yesterday (73 degrees). They were loaded short 1.135 and they made 168.8 PF. The exact same load loaded out to 1.175 was 163.2. Go Figure I talked to JL back when I picked up the gun for my wife and if I remember right he recommended 9.1 grns of 3N38. I have 4 pounds of it sitting around so I might give it a try.
  13. I have a torpedo heater its 75,000 BTUs and it heats my garage in about 5 min to about 80 degrees no matter what the temp is outside. They are around 185 bucks at Attwoods. It holds 5 gal of kersene and will last me almost all winter.
  14. I am a GAMER! Ask anybody that knows me. But I would not shoot through snow fence and expect to not get hammered for it. Gaming is looking for a way to shoot a stage that is completly within the rules that will help you shave off that little bit of time. On a slow month I design and set 12 stages a month at our club and sometimes I leave a hole in the stage that someone finds ( usually Scorch from Doubletap) thats great and I don't get offended. There are many people that don't like the snow fence walls but they are cheap and easy to move around. We have 30 wooden walls made out of plywood and 2x4s that I can't move by myself. If that was all we had to use then walls wouldn't get put up to often during a match because I do most of the setup by myself. I use the heck out of our snow fence walls because I can carry them around. Gaming is ok. But if you do something that you know is wrong and then try to get away with it thats Cheating plain and simple.
  15. We make our walls out of 1 inch tubing. We weld them with 3 foot legs and use old plow disks with inch and a half pipe welded to the disk for the tubing to slide into. Then use snow fence with zip ties for the center. They are very easy to carry and last forever.
  16. 7625 would fill the primer back in ( But it sure did shoot soft). I never tried small rifle primers because I have always used small pistol but this last primer order I got 5000 small rifle to give a try. I am thinking I will give 7625 another chance after the 16 pounds of HS-6 I bought runs out. A good friend of mine just gave me 8 pounds of N350 because he won't be shooting for a while so I have lots of powder to burn-up.
  17. I have a 38 super shorty built by Dan. I have tried IMR 7625, VV N350 and HS-6. I liked 7625 but it showed some pressure signs @ 171 PF, N350 worked great but costs alot, so I have settled into using HS-6. I use 125 grn Zero HPS and make 170 PF with 8.5 grns of powder. I will most likley give 7625 another try this summer because it shoots so soft and not that expensive.
  18. If you use STI mags then use the spacer. I don't really see why people don't like the spacers they work great if you use the SS spacers. I have a JL Hardy 9mm open and it came with 3 140s and a 170 (STIs) all with spacers and they run 100%. I have a friend that has 5 9mm open guns and two will run without spacers and the other three won't.
  19. Stages look to be pretty straight forward. Going to be lots of fun.
  20. Hey Mark glad to see you are bringing your daughter this year. Looking forward to seeing yall.
  21. I have a 550 that I bought many years back (before the 650) and I have added a case feeder. It is a great press and does what I need it to do. However if I was going to buy another press right now I would go with the 650 and casefeeder. I would never consider anything but a Dillon.
  22. I will be ROing this year looking forward to seeing everybody again.
