  1. They look good but I'm kind of hesitant to spend any more on running type hats without being able to try them on first. The few that I've tried have brims that are too long and come down at too much of an angle. They end up coming too close to obscuring the sights for comfort. Guess you only need to see your feet when running?!? Dude, I would not steer you wrong. I own and use three of those hats, and they are perfect for shooting--and available in pure white!
  2. With all the nice used limited pistols that come up for sale on the BE Classifieds, I can't imagine paying full price for a new one.
  3. This is the mag you're looking for:

    Yep! Just shoot.
  5. The eraser thing is an old PPC shooters' trick used for staging the trigger and creating the impression of firing in single-action mode. It has no real value in the action shooting sports, quite frankly.
  6. After messing with them extensively over the years, I have discovered that I don't like trigger stops on DA revolver triggers. The whole goal of the revolver trigger is a nice smooth long roll, and in my opinion the last thing you want is the trigger stop hitting the frame before the bullet leaves the barrel. I want plenty of nice follow-through after the shot breaks. If the action is set up right, you're not going to feel any noticeable backlash. The factory trigger stop pin that rides inside the rebound slide is fine--you really don't want anything that takes away that little extra bit of DA overtravel, if you ask me.
  7. I would say a lot of top shooters like a light to moderate trigger reset. The top shooters have learned how to dynamically release the trigger as part of the trigger pull sequence, rather than rely on the rebound spring to push the finger forward. Jerry once used heavy rebound springs in his guns. Not anymore--if you ask him about it, he'll tell you he "grew out of that."
  8. A Dillon border shift bag in the bottom of the big range bag works perfectly--loaded (and pre-tested) moons in one side, spent moons in the other. You guys who are worried about sympathetic primer detonation might want to consider some anxiety medication, or pretty soon you will start thinking there is a "top" and a "bottom" to your moon clips like Waltermitty. Seriously, you're seeing ghosts.
  9. Shock buffs are problematic, and especially with Commanders with their already shorter slide travel.
  10. Darth, this is what you are looking for: http://www.headsweats.com/categories/Our-Products/Performance-Hats/
  11. What makes you think I don't have my own secret stash of Milletts? Just because I said I was out of them on the old "Carmonize!" dealer forum??
  12. #62 is definitely a shooter! #3 and #96 remain unmolested......for now!
  13. Heck, of all the names tossed around in this thread, Byfield is about the only one still actively competing!! (Except Leatham, of course.)
  14. The real answer: Drop the whole "bad economy" mindset and go find a way to make more money. Pick up some hours at a second job, mow lawns, whatever--it doesn't have to be glamorous. You'll feel better in general when you have some extra money in your pocket and you won't find yourself in the never-ending spiral of selling off perfectly good gear at a loss.
  15. Sounds like a good reason to maintain a clean-cut appearance and a respectful attitude!

Is this heaven? No, it's Iowa.
  17. Yeah, I always enjoy the Big Dawg match, but I find that issue pretty frustrating. There is no reason why any target should fail to fall with a 140 PF load. I broke out some +P+ carry loads for the tombstones, and that helped, but there are also a couple of chickens that don't go over consistently. I also don't like seeing spray lube applied just after a squad walks off the bay.....
  18. You can't go back to the original gun, even if you fix it. Once you switch guns (with Range Master approval), you're not allowed to switch back again. I could look up the rule and cite it here, but I'm too tired after shooting my Tuesday night USPSA local match!
  19. I really enjoy shooting my 9mm 1911s, so much so that I recently upgraded to a couple high-end 1911 pistols in that caliber. Most of the time, and depending on how the stages are designed, 8-round major is a more competitive option. But the difference isn't huge, and there are some matches where 10-round minor can be an advantage.
  20. The RIA guns are not bad--better for sure than the original Auto-Ordnance 1911s. I'm not sure I would have any use for a mil-spec version, though, mainly because I need a beavertail to keep my hand from getting chopped up. If he can save up a little more money, I'd suggest that he get the "Tactical" version with the beavertail, better sights, etc. Or better yet, the American Classic 1911 with beavertail, etc., another Filipino import which will have a nicer fit and finish than the Armscor/RIA stuff. Keep in mind that all of the above will probably need a good throating job to function well with all bullet profiles.
  21. If you can't afford two fully functional guns, you can't afford to shoot that division! Even when your primary gun has proven itself to be extremely reliable, crazy stuff happens. One year at the Single Stack Classic, my front sight blade broke off (leaving the base in the dovetail) with 4 or 5 stages to go. This was not something that could have been easily resolved with a parts kit. Having an extra gun along, I was able to finish the match with a virtually identical gun that had a front sight! Another time, my revolver started suddenly skipping chambers at an area match. This is a well-known problem that can usually be resolved by changing out the cylinder stop and spring, and/or dressing the lead-in ramps on the cylinder with a round stone. But it's still not something I would want to have to mess with at the safe area, y'know? Having another identical 625 in the bag took care of the issue.
  22. Not to sound unkind, but I'm sorta thinking if you weren't even there, it might be better if you didn't make public comment on it here. The RO staff at this particular match was highly competent and experienced. I can't imagine any of them dishing out a DQ that wasn't 100% warranted. What is the difference? Did the boy set the gun down on the table without the safety applied?
