  1. Let me get this straight....the ICORE Midwest Regional is in Nevada? (I'm hoping you're going to tell me Nevada, Iowa? No?) Nothing against NV or NV shooters, it's just one of those WTF things.
  2. My understanding is that the 3X shirts were delayed because Techwear's Tent and Awning Division is backed up right now.
  3. I thought the food was just fine--my chicken sandwich was excellent and the Culver's custard was a great touch on a hot day.
  4. So you know exactly where things stand with your gun and yet you're posting your "question" here anyway? If I were Rich D. and I saw this thread I would send your gun straight back to you and suggest that you go find a "faster" gunsmith.
  5. The following is a conglomeration of range commands heard recently at local matches: Range is going hot! Eyes and ears! Shooter, do you know and understand the course of fire? The range is yours to load and make ready. Shooter ready. **BEEP** If through, unload and show clear. Gun is clear, slide forward, hammer down, holster. Range is safe. The only correct one is the start signal (**BEEP**)! Seriously, how hard is it to get the range commands right?
  6. I consider all of those warnings to be generally inappropriate at a USPSA match. The range commands should be given exactly by the book, and the RO should otherwise keep quiet and pay attention.
  7. No rumor. That's absolutely true. The comparison standard is a quantity of Bullseye powder made in 1898 or 1899, which is stored in water for safety reasons. I took the deposition of the long-time product manager at Hercules Powder, and he talked all about it. Fascinating stuff.
  8. It was really good to finally meet you, Mike. I was the midget RO on stage 8 who mentioned how great your cigar smelled. Sam must have had a great match and congrats to him. Hey yeah, I remember that! I should've given you one. Buying off ROs with cigars is one of my oldest tricks.
  9. Are you one of those guys who still uses 7-round mags in your 1911 because that's what John Moses Browning designed it for? 1911s sure feel smoother with FLGRs installed. More importantly, if you're trying to cut weight, the last place you want to cut is non-reciprocating weight up front. Sure, it's easy to yank out the guide rod, but there are better and smarter ways to cut weight.
  10. Whoa--hold the phone! This is one of those areas where there is a lot of gun counter folklore floating around. The only 100% sure way to deactivate primers is by detonating them. The only 100% sure way to destroy smokeless powder is by burning it. Water and oil may temporarily render primers and powder inert, but when the liquids dry out, those components can return to their original active condition. Oil simply takes longer to dry. How do I know this, you ask? I defended a civil lawsuit a few years ago that involved terrible injuries suffered when "deactivated" reloading supplies weren't so "deactivated" after all. Testimony from component manufacturer employees was taken, and product testing was done by a forensic engineering firm.
  11. Get rid of the G-10 grips. They look cool but are really heavy. I'll bet if you install a set of those Ergo textured grips, you will love the way they feel, and you'll make weight. They might not look fancy, but they are very functional with just the right amount of "grippiness."
  12. Hey guys, Sam and I shot yesterday--what a great match! Thanks to all our friends who made it happen. One little scoring glitch--I noticed that Practiscore has me shooting Single Stack Major, when in fact I declared and shot Single Stack Minor. I called Brian Frayne on his cell number to let him know, but it rolled over to voicemail. So if anybody catches this post today, please make sure that Stats fixes this before the final results are posted, OK? Thanks, Mike Carmoney (Competitor 267)

Great to see you back in the game, Big Hoss!
  14. Didn't realize ICORE had Mulligans for after the buzzer competitor equipment failure? They do. In the rule book , Section 8 Reshoots are mandatory under the following circumstances: 4. When the Range Officer and Match Director concur on special circumstances for granting a reshoot. As I heard the story FWIW, it didn't break in the middle of a stage it was broken before a shot was fired. With no time to record it was as if he didn't start the stage. If asked, I would have voted for the reshoot. The rules are not vague on this issue--it's right there, just as plain as day: 10. If at anytime a competitor is unable to finish a stage or string because of the competitor's equipment failure (i.e. barrel blockage, firearm breakage, etc.), the competitor will be scored his time and hits for the course of fire until the breakage, and awarded ALL penalties for misses, failures to engage, and any other procedural penalties appropriate to the stage or string.
  15. Should've checked with us here first, Bro. What you got was completely typical. The good news is that all those issues can be fixed.
  16. Not sure everybody heard Gary mention that they change the stages between the back-to-back Nationals matches. The changes may not be huge, but they affect the shooting challenges enough to be meaningful.
  17. I have not seen this problem as long as the sideplate is left in place, so that it can support the pin on both ends. If you're not careful, it's pretty easy to bend the pin during the trial/error fitting process, though. Fortunately, they seem to bend back without breaking. Even so, I stopped using trigger stops years ago on my revos, which are shot almost exclusively in DA mode. In my opinion, trigger stops are useful for SA shooting only. For DA shooting, you want to roll the trigger right on past the break, for good smooth follow-through. You don't want the trigger to hit the end of its travel and lurch to a stop while the hammer is falling or the bullet is still in the barrel, do you? Learn to love the overtravel, boys! Hang onto the gun good and hard, get your finger in there to the first joint where it's supposed to be, and roll that puppy right on through.
  18. I remember reading the Illustrated Man when I was a kid. The idea of a person covered with tattoos was strange. Back then, the only tattoos you ever saw were a few military emblems on the old war vets, and maybe a few on the outlaw bikers. Now practically everybody is running around with so may tats they could have qualified as circus freaks a couple decades ago!
  19. Interesting discussion. I have a problem with par time stages in general, because I think they introduce an arbritary luck factor into the mix. If your shot happens to go off at +.30, you're fine.....if it goes off at +.31, you're penalized. And with ICORE scoring, it really hurts to catch one of those penalties. Particularly now that some of the top contenders are running so close to each other, do we really want to see Jerry or John dethroned (or re-throned, for that matter!) because of some bullcrap "gotcha" penalty like that? This applies not just with the standards, but any stage where par time is used. If Far and Near with par times is kept, it would be much better to have turning targets with a visual start, like they have at Bianchi and the standards stage at the Single Stack Nats. That would maintain the time pressure but eliminate the overtime penalties, and the luck factor that is inherent in them. Of course, mechanical turners aren't cheap. But the Hogues could probably swing it!
  20. One of the goals of good stage design is to make it reasonably shootable for the lower level shooters, and yet still challenging for the higher level guys. One of the goals of good match design is to ensure that no one single stage becomes disproportionately determinative of overall match performance. I don't think either of the above statements is all that terribly debatable or controversial, at least not in general terms.
  21. Yep--Para mags. You can check out my switch-top 1911A2 project gun here: http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=26887&hl=filipino&st=0
  22. Very, very impressive--way to go, Josh!
