  1. Seems to me I looked into red dots a couple months ago for fun if I could swing the cash. I remember thinking the Trijicon would be better for a carry gun and the Leupold better for range time. Didn't know about the mini Eotech... I am super happy with my eotech XPS 2 on my rifle. For half price, I don't see how you could go wrong!
  2. My M&P Pro 5" 40 is fairly picky... But my 3" M&P Shield 40 is consistently a good shooter, go figure. I think is has to do with barrel resonance or vibration. The shorter barrels don't seem to vibrate as much because they are stiffer (same strength with less length/leverage). Or I'm full of shit and its all in my head. I'll believe either one until I get my guns in a vice.
  3. For what it's worth... I've loaded 95, 100, 115, 124, and 130 gr in 9mm. All stabilized. All felt very similar, so I load for accuracy and cost (124 gr Montana gold JHP or 130 gr Berry's) In the same gun, I do a barrel swap on my M&P Pro 40, and shoot a 180 gr Bear creek moly lead with TrailBoss or WST for 722 fps. THAT is a bunny fart!
  4. Partyboy, You show the TTIs as being cheaper, but I found the Taylors for $30 and the TTIs for $35. Am I missing something? Edit: nevermind, I see you are comparing them to the more expensive brass TF basepads.
  5. I have fired over a thousand .40 S&W and also 9mm (using a conversion barrel) out of my M&P 40 Pro, and I have never had an extraction issue. I even bought an FRE when I got the gun, but never installed, it sits on my computer desk. Spring and guiderod might be a good route.
  6. No problems making major in .40 S&W, with 180 gr bullets you make 175 PF at 972 fps, that's well under the 1200-1250 fps limit. You will likely not see the same accuracy as a high quality JHP, but you aren't paying that price either. Berry's 155 hollow base truncated cone has been okay in my Glock 23, not very good in my M&P Pro, and a TACK DRIVER in my M&P Shield (good 25 yrd groups!)
  7. The only round nose .40 I have seen has been plated. I have seen some round shoulder flat point ammo that I thought looked like FMJ in .40 I have used round, truncated cone, and hollow points in my Glock and M&P and have never had any feeding problems. Round bullets I think can load a little longer and still fit in magazines, and usually can be loaded longer before touching rifling too... If I recall anyways. But I like clean holes, so mostly I like TC / FP.
  8. The construction of the bullets is completely different. A JHP is made in such a way that the base of the bullet is more likely to be "perfect" than an FMJ with its exposed base. This is why most people find JHPs more accurate, because the base of the bullet is critical to accuracy. Plated hollow point rounds aren't made the same way, but having a hollow point would give them a longer bearing surface just like a JHP. I've had good luck with plated rounds, but I haven't put them back to back against my JHPs either.
  9. But are the replacement mag release from the same batch or did they upgrade the steel somehow? I'd like to get one, but it seems pointless if I have to replace it every couple of months.
  10. But a military rifle only fires that way when the shooter intends it to. Here the rifle fired rounds when the shooter DIDN'T intend. Like a car that stops on a dime when you jam on the brakes, you intended to stop. But if it stops on its own while doing 70mph on the freeway, that could be a safety issue.
  11. Any chance your thumb is pressing the slide lock on recoil?
  12. Why are slide cutouts a bad thing for a "tactical" M&P but not on a Berretta 92? How about Glock 34/35 and XDm 5.25?
  13. Comes with a sub MOA guarantee, but they wouldn't tell Tom Gresham of Gun Talk when he interviewed them.
  14. I'm also using an X-die and plan on marking the headstamp with a blue marker (blue because the only color on the CFE223 bottle is a blue line). I use a chisel tipped "Sharpie" or other permanent marker. For pistol, I color code them based on the powder use: -Green sharpie for Titegroup (has a dollar bill on the bottle) -Dark red Sharpie for Trailboss (the bottle cap is IMR blood red) -Blue for WST (the cap is blue for Winchester) -Black for Longshot(black cap) -Orange for Universal (bottle has an orange circle on it I also vary the pattern on the headstamp/primer depending on the load. -full power factor loads get a solid stripe -less than powerfactor gets 2/3 stripe or just the primer colored -and when testing several different loads, I use several color combinations and mark each in my book to help me keep them all straight.
  15. Reading the posts for the past five years, it seems to be a consensus that N320 gives "the softes recoil". I've never tried it (trying to use up my 16 year old supply of WW231, which is not bad. At least one semi-scientific test reinforces that, check the graph about half way down the page(Click me!). It's a good example of a the difference in felt recoil from faster to slower powders. Also a wonderful source of information. I personally have about 7 pounds of an 8 lb get of Titegroup to use up before I try N320... but it's on the to do list.
  16. I can't possibly see how you could get excessive pressure with TG and a 130-145 PF in 357 sig.
  17. That's like asking, "10w40 a better oil than 20w50? Explain why." The answer to both questions depends on the application. Specifically how important it is for you to keep recoil minimal? Are you trying for a specific "power factor" or velocity? How comfortable are you loading near max load?
  18. My Hodgdon book shows that your load of 3.2 gr of TG is the starting load and should be around 855 fps. So you are already at your desired velocity, or very close. Are you looking for a particular velocity or feel? Either way, I think you ought to have a chronograph. Otherwise you're sort of just shooting in the dark. (pun intended)
  19. They are $11-$12 a box of 50... I wouldn't call them terribly expensive. Not great, but not expensive either.
  20. Happy to supply you data from my Lee book if you can't find what you are looking for.
  21. Just saw these today... http://www.wideners.com/itemdetail.cfm?item_id=8699
  22. Looks like Wideners(click me!) has some Remington JHPs, but I don't think they are Golden Saber.
  23. I didn't realize they only come in 9mm, that's to bad. In general, people buy lots of guns that aren't for competition or carry. Those are just the two big reasons most of us buy them. It's just fun to shoot different guns! I'M not going to pay $1500 for that gun, but I bet some people will. It's no more ridiculous than someone buying a suped up 1911 or a custom revolver with scroll work and pearl grips. I think most of us on here are very mission oriented, but a lot of people aren't. It's like a motorcycle, it doesn't fit a mission, but it sure is fun and it looks sexy in your garage!
