  1. Or you could sell me the Edge for cheap so you have the $$ for the DVC....
  2. No need for one, I have a keymod similar in size to the MI on my 308 and never worry about the heat.
  3. I am thinking of picking up a slide/frame to work myself but will seriously consider the grip. Looks really well thought out and executed.
  4. I guess I should give up beating all those guys in SS that shoot .40 because I use .45 and somehow still beat them. And 38super is only good for Open which the OP did not talk about. OP, I would watch every video Wilson Combat makes on YouTube. So much 1911 info, they are pretty in depth and great for 1911 beginners. Stick with the .45 until you need to go .40 for convince of reloading. So real advantage of it at the level your at. Even then, some of the best SS shooters will do just as good with .40 and .45.
  5. I am also wondering why a 9mm for Limited. OP, dont take this as offensive but are you familiar with Limited rules?
  6. My Baer mags have CMC components. Base pad included.
  7. Glad to see. If you check out 1911 forum, there is a LB forum. Lots of great info on these guns as well as many with 10,000 of thousands of rounds through them. One now has over 2k thru it without cleaning.
  8. Not bashing anyone for their choice, just proving their point about the FLGR being easier to take apart is wrong and stating that there is no RELIABILITY reason to change over. I have owned FLGR guns that ran with them in it and never changed it. If a gun runs with a GI rod, or FLGR, leave it alone IMO. What are these updated features you mentioned? New Metals used, Sights, grips, hammer shapes, magwell? None that affect reliability.... The 1911 trigger, frame/slide, slide stop, guide rod, barrel are all very close to the original design.
  9. How does a FLGR east take down over a GI rod? If it does your doing it wrong. I pull the slide back and remove the slide stop. Take off slide and that's it. 2-3 seconds to have them separated. FLGR uses tools, come on. JMB designed the gun for the GI rod, not FLGR. IMO, this is trying to fix a problem that does not exist. IF your gun runs with one and came that way, fine, but if your gun runs reliably with a GI one, why change it? Weight, please..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TYuJhnB-1mY
  10. I the S & A and it is a great choice. cheers. thanks brother! S & A it is! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Ill throw one more in. Wilson Combat 1 piece. It is more expensive but 30lpi and the nice bevel. I just put one on mine and love it. It does take a lot of time to fit though. Lots of filing as the underside is oversized. Where the bottom of the frame hits the MSH/Magwell corner needed a ton. but well worth it as it is now Baer tight.
  11. I would beg to differ. I know of no manufacturer who makes a larger proportion of jammomatics than Les Baer. I have never seen one make it through a match without a jam. It seems safe to say that you don't like Les Baers. My own personal experience is that they are incredibly reliable. And I'd say that the overwhelming opinion of other owners is that they are quite good. It's rare that I hear anyone voice the opinion you just tossed out. (Though I seem to remember a similar comment elsewhere that is essentially word-for-word what you just wrote. So I'm guessing this is a repeat.) I don't generally shoot mine in compeitition - though I did recently shoot it in a match. Not a single jam. You might gather from my classifier record that I enjoy shooting 1911s. I don't really have anything against Les Baer, although I have heard he's not a very nice guy and will cuss you out if you call him and tell him that the gun he built for you won't run. His guns look nice and if I wanted one for bullseye or for a wall decoration I would be happy to own one. I was reluctant to even make a post in this thread because posting such a comment is inevitably followed by people who feel the need to defend their purchases with an anecdote from their own gun. If you have one that runs, great. I have just never seen one make it through a match without a jam, and many or perhaps even most couldn't even make it through a stage without one. There are plenty of gunsmiths who can build a nice, tight, accurate 1911 that runs. Les Baer is not among them. When he builds guns that run, I'll stop criticizing his product. Until then, there will be people like you defending him, and he'll keep churning out the nice looking paperweights he's been churning out for a long time. Im going out on a limb here and going to say, "you dont or never have owned one". Mine has around 10K rounds through it and has been to near 50 matches including WSSSC. I have had may be 5-6 problems with it the entire time and may by 2 were in matches. Everyone was ammo/magazine related and not one was the guns fault. I also personally know several other LB owners who can say the same. Im sure what ever gun you own, someone would say was a jam-o-matic and they never seen one make it through a match, which I seriously doubt is 100%true in your case as im sure you do not know everyone at the matches and know what they shoot.
  12. I shoot SS but took away something from a friend who I shoot with. Although he is OPEN and fast on his way to M, he is constantly faster than every other shooter, GM, M, whoever. When he gets to the line, He closes his eyes and you can watch him walk himself through the stage with his eyes closed. This IMO, is proof you know what your plan is and know the layout. Ill be working on doing that before my stages.
  13. Just scored a 21" at the LGS. I pick it up on the 7th. Time to get a nordic tube shipped. Ordered the Tac Com 8up last week and boy is it nice. Excited.
  14. On 1911forum, I have read a few posts about wilson mags/ followers doing this. I would not worry about the plunger as it will wear the finish on the slide stop in that area. Id bet on the Wilson follower.
  15. ricardo28

    stock trigger

USPSA allows a trigger change to a point in production. I use the stock 5.5lb trigger (.25c trigger job) on my gen4 G22 and shot a B classifier for my first match in production. (Usually shoot SS with a 4lb)
  16. It is not the bullet OAL. I would be willing to bet, a substantial amount, that it is the throat/ feed ramp. My second guess would be the magazines. If you do not want to sent it to a gunsmith, Get some 200 or 230g LRN.
  17. Call Tripp research and tell them you want the Corey mags :-) lol
  18. Well some of the top guys (Rodgers, Rodgers, Heinie, Liebenberg ) do have hundreds of other guns waiting to be built. Say each gun gets 25+ hours or attention. Thats anywhere from 2.5-4+ days per gun depending on their daily commitment. Thats around 80 guns a year. With a log of 250+ it is easily 3 + years before your name pops up. As stated, many of these guys will not ask for your parts until your name comes up and from then it will be a few weeks before you get it depending on the finish. I do not think it is unreasonable being from one of these guys mentioned. Oh yea, last i checked, Heinie has enough orders that he will retire or die before taking another. Again, they are not taking 3 years to build one gun.
  19. Im looking at getting a back up or new primary gun and currently use a LB Custom Carry. In 45 with hand loads it shoots incredibly flat, both felt and observed when videoed. Im wondering why many are going to .40cal. I understand the 9 round mags being downloaded helps on reloads. Many reload recipes have the same powder charge as 45. The extra FPS required for some of the lighter bullets would seem to create more recoil but I do know there are some 180g+ bullets. Anyone have some insight that would lead me to switch calibers? I dont care about 9mm SS because im not TGO.
  20. No GM/M either but I agree with Flex, you bring your gun way back almost to your chest. Keep it out there. As long as the mag is not in front of your hip bone your fine.
  21. hey Steve, I wanted to thank you for the best advise i have ever gotten. A little about me. Im LEO and only been shooting USPSA for 10 months. I bought your books and read them. i tailored the drills to me as im an extremest when it comes to self analyzing. Common mistakes i would make were if i shot 95% Alphas, Id say go faster. Id go faster and suffer. classified as C in SS in 5mts. Well after reading where you said, "just shoot your match, dont think about speed or Alphas" i literally stopped thinking. WOW, what a concept. It really sets you up for your muscle memory to take over. My times have dropped drastically and hits are consistant. Now because of work I dont make many classifiers but have been beating or keeping up with B-A class SS shooters during the match. Last classifier was 74.68. I have times and shots consistant with A class for the stage and have recently had stages where i am on the heals of an M class shooter in SS. I will still bomb a stage which will cost me overall but, Like you said, Its over and i dont dwell on it. I completely forget about the last stage and dont worry about others times or scores. Several matches i have beat B class Limited shooters. Although I do not follow your training to the T, I do appreciate that your long winded in explaining things and all the thought process you go through. Thank you, Richard
  22. Has anyone used their 650 to reload rifle using 2 dies? Im starting to reload for my 6.8 and have been looking at Dies... wondering how it works out.
  23. I thought of it mechanically (as i look at most things). The angle of the magwell and magazine along with the arm position is the most important. Rather head level or waist level, you need to have the gun at the correct angle along with your arm. Seeing the magwell is not as important if your arm position is correct. I like to have my arm moving upwards @ about 45% along with the gun (For me, magwell at nose level). I have seen people to almost 90% reloads and it works for them. If your having trouble just hold the gun at different angles along with your arm and find whats comfortable and works for you. Gun at different angles and heights. Head level or not.
  24. I believe, and BE can confirm, Rob L, will change out his front sight depending on the ranges at different stages in a match.
  25. May be the OP needs to stop pulling the trigger and wait that extra split second until he sees his sights. A .20 split and a .30-.35 split can be several points. Dont pull the trigger until you know what your hitting. Gun changes will help but in the end, you shoot the gun, it dont shoot on its own. Lots of practice and you will be at the .20 splits with all ALPHAS...
