  1. was thinking, i have had some extra primers. get a small primer shell, problem with the press and the primers are left over. some have sat for a while, sometimes months, out on my bench before i get them into a case and loaded. im loading some fresh ones straight from the package to the case and testing this theory.
  2. All the primers were checked for flush seating and I attempted to fire several up to 5 times and no success. Main spring is 15lbs but again, I have fired over 5k from the same order without one issue with the same main spring lbs. Ill contact CCI. Really nervous about loading up the next 4+k and not being sure they will work. Thanks for the info about storage.
  3. So about 2.5 years ago I bought over 10k CCI #300 primers for 45acp. I still have about 4k left but ran into a problem recently. These are always stored in their original container/box and kept in my garage out of the moisture but not in a sealed container. In that time I shot over 5k without an issue at all. Recently during local matches I began having FTF problems with primer strikes. I changed all the springs and still same thing. Recently I shot 200 rounds and had 10 FTF with the primers struck just as good as those that went off. Im not 100% sure but these issues are possibly from the same box of 1k primers. Im not interested in this happening at anymore matches so ordered some new Win LPP. Nervous about loading the next 4k primers but don't want to throw them away. Any info about this issue would help and I do plan to store in a sealed container (possibly ammo can) from now on.
  4. Love this classifier. B class in SS 88pts and 23sec and only a 71% on it with no Mikes and the best part, It puts everyone on an even keel. Open, Limited, dont matter. Out of 82 shooters, only 9 had no misses and even being SS I came in 5th overall. Misses are king here so went a little slow just to ensure I got all my hits.
  5. Although it has not been said here, Some people who use frog lube have experienced gumming. If your gun sits for any period of time, like any biodegradable substance (Froglube is) it breaks down and gums up. So either clean it weekly/monthly just incase, or use only oil and don't worry about just incase cleaning. A few drops of oil before big matches or during high volume sessions and shoot for thousands of rounds without worry. With being new to 1911's and just getting to know your gun, I would run it hard to find its limits without cleaning.
  6. Well, shooting a pistol bullet at say 850FPS at a distance of 10-50yds, will not effect accuracy at all if your jacket/coating/plating has a few scratches or even coating missing from the expander. Your barrel grooves mess up the jacket anyways..... Now a Rifle at around 3kFPS and 500+yds will be effected but not a pistol and not at all noticeable freehand.... Really confused as to why people are concerned about this. I have shaved chunks of lead off the bullet from bad expanders and never noticed those bullets being less accurate.
  7. MIx of loads don't matter, one round with a crap primer/primer pocket will cause that problem. My Les Baer has it from using Fiocchi (SP) and never shot it since. One primers very hot gasses will destroy metal, although a small area like what you have. Mine pitted in the first 500 rounds and over 7000 later with a new finish, the pits are still there and never had one issue.
  8. less than 1% variation for mass produced ammo sounds good to me. I doubt you will find factory ammo that is less than that and no one every complains or probably really chrono's factory ammo.
  9. Living in CA I get items from Dillon in 2 days. Even using BE store I got my case feeder in 2 business days.
  10. haha, nice man. I have used mine for 2 years without a case feeder and just got it in. WOW, can not believe I went so long without it. Seeing that my machine has been dialed in for a while, I can not believe how much of an improvement it is. Really glad you like yours and I to will be ordering more bullets after todays session.
  11. Congratulations man, Take your time getting it dialed in. I know a few guys who gave up because they thought the 650 should be a ready to go set up. IMO, i would not use the bullet feeder until your really comfortable with it being dialed in. Read the instructions over a few times while setting it up. I am sure you will love it, I LOVE mine.
  12. I believe Cory himself said he asked for a hybrid follower which is different than the standard 10mm follower.
  13. Tripp research has mags for 40 but specifically set up for long loads. Call them up and order the Cory setup mags for 40. They have a different follower than normally offered. Now, Tripp research mags are expensive but well worth the cost.
  14. If some of you do not know, BiggDawg turned this into a business. I appreciate his work but was short on cash to buy his. I to built my own but, Appreciating all his effort and keeping these posts up after his business venture, I bought a 8in small tumbler drum from him just to kick some cash his way. He has helped thousands on several different forums to get into wet tumbling and figured he deserves a kickback.
  15. I agree with the above but I myself do not ream crimped brass or any other brass to the point I have big piles of brass. IMO, if the reamer can not push into the pocket before twisting I do not ream it. I ream because I do not yet have a swager but will be getting one soon. I also get a ton of free range brass so i am not worried about brass lasting 7+ reloads.
  16. Looks real good man, spend the rest of your money on ammo and training books. This gun is capable of taking you really far in this sport... Why the FLGR? I hate them but have an FLGR end cap in my box. PM me your info. If you don't like the Beavertail fit, Wilson Combat has one for $30-35 that is a really good fit to the SA radius.
  17. No, Primers are not harder to allow the reloader to press it in harder.... You are having a problem with the Brass. Do you have a primer pocket uniform tool? they are cheap and easy to use. I reload Hornady Match and Federal GMM brass. I have rarely experienced some pockets being tighter than the majority but even with these high quality brass it happens. The Primer pocket Die does not always indicate a crimp or tight pocket, that is usually the primer sealer which can be because of the mfgr used. I often have problems reloading .223/ 5.56 because when using different mfgr brass, the primer pockets very greatly. Some are not crimped but are really tight and need to be trimmed with a reamer/uniform tool.
  18. Been wanting one of these for a while but don't have much need with a spot light clamped to my bench, Really want to justify this.......
  19. Most of the time it is dirt in the track, push rod, or shell holder. A huge tip with the 650, if you feel resistance other that primer seating, stop, look it over, remove stuff and inspect. It takes a while to get the 650 really dialed in but once you do it is really nice. And always look at the manual.
  20. The main reason for trouble seating in the 650 is crimped primers, the only other problem I have ever had was the shell guide (Silver tab that pushes the case at the primer stage) spring gets messed up or the screw holding it down loosens up. My guess if the WCC is loading fine, The BHA is crimped or even just a tighter primer pocket. Get a SWAG or primer pocket reamer.
  21. Stock is probably 20-22lbs, an 18lb will place less pressure on the hammer during slide travel to the rear and also help your trigger. It will not be as noticeable as your recoil spring but it helps. Also get a different MSH if your still using the stock one with the ILS. Get quality springs, Wolff, ISMI, C&S.......
  22. I do not know If I would go lower than 14 but it is worth a try. I would pick up a few different weight springs and go practice. I use a 14lb with 200g making major PF. Problem with to much lower is the weak forward energy which can cause feed problems, also can cause a faster recoil which can cause more recoil to the rear...
  23. Stick with what you have and make changes as needed. Many changes are not needed and mostly desires... Get really good with your gear then when you must upgrade, do it. Id use the money saved for ammo. Shooting lots will improve you more that a new gun will.
