  1. People who are affected by a gun discharging the way you described should. I'm a vet and have numerous friends who spent weeks-months unconscious, one has 3 Purple Hearts and they are not traumatized by much. Someone who suffers from mental Trauma by a gun discharging the way we're talking here, has no business handling guns.
  2. Garret industries. giholsters.com makes a Kydex that is leather lined.
  3. I understand the wrist is more sensitive that the knuckle or top of the hand. However, your not mentioning the path taken by the shrapnel. It will likely go back and up, not forward. But it is possible. What's more possible, incompetent humans loading, gunsmithing, finger on trigger while racking and a bunch of other idiotic errors. Many LEO and Military trainers teach the rear serrations cup, I was taught in both the military and as a new LEO. I'm interested in the real cause of your fellow shooters real issue. I'm positive it didn't happen because he used my FCS demo. PTSD, shock, emotional trauma? Those people should be sitting home, bottom line. I agree a slide racket is the safest but I also think we're disagreeing about something that statistically, is 100x safer than driving. So should we not drive to a match because of those odds?
  4. Well then, thanks for the info. I have never had an issue depressing mine but know a few who have. I thought I seen the guy doing the chrono, weight check was checking safety function as he manipulated it a few times.
  5. Been looking at the 3gun DVC with a 5.4" barrel. Very appealing.
  6. Typically when that happens, there are more issues than using FCS. More often than not, the person don't know how to reload properly or does work on their gun when they should not be. Even gun handling safety issues beyond racking.
  7. Distant Thunder, I assure you, my hand is in no more danger than using the rears. If that picture makes you worry, I think your holding onto your bias. My hand never covered the port, and my wrist is off to the side of the gun, not covering the port at all. If i took a photo from directly above, it would show the thumb palm pad directly above that port corner, not over it. I do tilt the gun when racking just like the picture. My hand is completely in front of the port. As you can see in this picture, there is no difference. I would even venture to say by using the rears, your MORE exposed to shrapnel because of the directed pressure. In this picture, i grabbed it in a practical way. I tried to get back as far as i could but that would not be realistic in a match and is very awkward to grasp so far back.
  8. I see a few guys mentioning SS (Single Stack) which if you shoot that division, your BTGS must work, no? I could have swore they checked it at WSSSC last time i went.
  9. let me know if the pictures don't work. If they do, as you can see, my hand follows the trigger guard up and i wrap the FCS thumb over. I never flag my hand and my hand is not covering the ejection port. If you believe this is too close to the ejection port, your just being ignorant as using the rears is actually closer to it especially if you cup the rears.
  10. Shot it today in Single Stack. 8.01 55pts 6.8664 HF 87.649%
  11. Still scratching my head on this one. Does this make sense to anyone else? Maybe a picture would help. By the numbers in the poll I would be willing to bet many agree with me. I will get pictures.
  12. My hand is no closer to the chamber when open than using the rear. I don't cover the port when open either. My hand is to the left side with my thumb over the top, never exposed to the open port more than using the rear.
  13. Wow, thanks for slamming me ricardo28. I said "I would think it would be a .250" then recommended that the OP call EGW to confirm. Also, I didn't say ALL beavertails are oversized. I have only ever used EGW beavertails, which all need to be fit to the curves of the tangs by removing material from the tangs AND be blended to the shape of the frame since they are oversized for doing exactly that. But I will digress to you supreme knowledge and need to slam people just for trying to be helpful. Have a nice day. Not a slam, just a direct correction. I don't sugar coat like today's society wants to make people feel better. Also, I'm not a gunsmith but I don't post bad info about things I don't know about. Didn't say you said always, you said almost any.
  14. Scottlep, all bad info. Springfield does not use a .250, they have a version of the .220 and no, all beaver tails are not oversized in the area of the curve. Almost always you need to fit the frame tangs to the beaver tail. It is easier to weld up and remove metal from the convex curve than a concave of the btgs.
  15. I had a Wilson that fit better than the factory one but later elected to have the tangs welded and refit at SACS. Money well spent.
  16. I use that exact method of grasping, just at FCS. I have never flagged myself because of how I move my support hand. Moves straight up , never losing contact with the gun. Like many, I train painfully slow until muscle memory builds. A mistake can happen. I get it but that goes for everything we do while moving and shooting, even using the rear.
  17. Well your the first to meet someone I ever heard of who shot their own hand using FCS. I have never met anyone nor heard of someone who had first hand experience of someone shooting their hand while using FCS. We all know the risks involved in using a firearm and we practice and train safe. Why is it different if I safely train one way that you don't agree with? Isn't there risks involved in overhand on the rear? Your fingers cover the ejection port using this method. I always hear that people blow their hand up this way also yet never heard of a first hand experience either.
  18. So using FCS is a safe manor is a heman bravado? Because some think it's unsafe and others (heman) think it's safe? We shoot guns and allow others to shoot guns near us, really? I'm more afraid of someone shooting others than I am of shooting my hand.
  19. Coal has little to do with Load until you find the shoulder. Find the spot that hits the barrel grooves/end of the chamber. Some seat .010 -.020 off this spot, others seat right up to it. Once that is found, then load to the COAL set by that. This changes from bullet design, powder used. Ect... Many seating dies go off the shoulder or ogive, never the tip. This is why COAL is found after the shoulder measurement sets the COAL. Find the best for each load. I load pistol similar to rifle and others use the book because it is easier. So much more to write but you need to team manuals.
  20. Couldn't agree more. Love mine. We rep and rep movements. Rep out proper FCS racking till its muscle memory. My support hand moves straight up, thumb over, rack. Never ever have I flagged my hand. Agree using rear cup racking covers chamber every time. It's a gun, it's dangerous and explodes, get over it and stop being scared. I do thing they look better without but function over form.
  21. VZ simonich Gunner Grips. I had to file them down in a few spots and I have rough hands.
  22. Using a $750 Springfield with a magwell or my $3k customized Les Baer, I can run the same times/scores. No real difference while moving and shooting. If the gun is reliable I would try a few magwells and mag releases until you find what fits your hand/ style. Get great mags and your set.
  23. Haven't shot much over the last year but going to change that this year. Had to renew my membership. Single Stack 66.78% TY76163.
  24. Patiently waiting till the 27th or as soon as some are ready to place an order.
