  1. Embrace it! I don't really like the rain only for the fact they bring out the clear plastic bags to cover the targets. Thinking back to early this year at a 3-gun match,it was cold, drizzling, and foggy, could barely see the target at 300 yards. I stopped and thought about how awesome that was. What else would I have been doing that day besides being stuck inside all day. Kind of compares to playing football in the rain and mud as a kid, except, I don't like mud at a match, so put that on the list.
  2. I'm really slow to changes like this, really slow. I know it would probably put me at a disadvantage with shooters who do used these, but it's also not something I would want to come dependant on because I'll always shoot another gun that won't have a thumb rest. I don't think I have ever experienced an issue of what I should do with my SH thumb.
  3. Since buy Steve Anderson's book on dry firing and a shot timer, I have only shot one match that had 4 classifiiers, I shot limited for the first time as a USPSA member and ended with a C classification, 3 other matches had no classifiers. I must say, I felt a little more comfortable shooting those 4 classifier stages having been going by the book. I'm hoping to have some more classifiers soon so I can get out of D classification in Production which is what I have been shooting since joining USPSA so I can get a better gauge of how well this new training is paying off.
  4. I used melamine for the top of my reloading bench, cleans easy and sturdy and didn't have to do anything but bolt it down.
  5. Hey, shouldn't this go in "match screw ups".
  6. Disagree. I have seen stages that require some targets to be shot once some twice others three times all virgina count all on the same stage. That is a memory stage and I don't care for them. Pat I disagree. ALL stages have a best/most efficient way to shoot them. It's up to you to find it. That's half the game dude. When the buzzer goes off, I don't remember shit. Just my plan. I like the idea that all stages have a best/most efficient way to shoot them, but it seems most of the time, everyone shoots it the same way. It would be nice if no one saw how the shooter ahead of them shoot the stage and see who shot it differently, but even I know that's not realistic. As far as the "memory" stages, I don't hate them like I used to.
  7. I was using CCI primers in my M&P40 with light springs and the same thing was happening to me. After switching to Federal primers, the problem went away.
  8. I'm looking at getting an Edge next year, or something on an STI frame. I don't think this thread will influence me to buy another brand, cause what other brand would you buy? On the other hand I do hate to see a thread like this, I have an STI Guardian and really like it when I do take it out to shoot it.
  9. I got some advice a while back. Dry fire against a blank white wall while watching your sites. The goal is to go through the trigger squeeze and release while keeping the sites steady as possible. It helped me.
  10. What is that thing on the frame. That's the first time I have seen one, is that the *thumb rest [generic]* I hear talked about, and what does it do, help with the muzzle flip?
  11. Hopefully I'll have the either the Pro Ears that I told my wife about this week, or the Howard Leight's about months ago for Christmas. Come on Pro Ears.
  12. From what I read in a recent Blue Press article arms slightly bent is another option chosen by top shooters. It allows the arms to absorb some of the recoil, it was also stated that Phil Strader takes the approach of squeezing the gun from both sides, I guess much like a vise which keeps the gun from rotating in his hands. He'll squeeze it that at the end of his practice sessions his chest will be a little tired. I hope I didn't get that wrong, especially around here, no telling who might be watching. I've been trying this approach in my dry fire, I haven't been able to focus on it during live fire just yet because when I read it I was close to a couple of matches and I didn't want to change at that time. Changing to this type of form has almost felt like starting over during dry fire, I hope it pays off.
  13. I'm married with no kids, but I still don't want to spend every weekend at the range or match, well, I do want to, but I also want to keep my wife happy. I'll do one or maybe two matches a month and one practice session which she will usually go with me. I wish I could shoot more, but it's not exactly an inexpensive sport we have here.
  14. Dang it, I've been using new dryer sheets. My wife hadn't started yelling at me, so I thought I was doing good. I'll be switching to used. I also use a fan to blow the dust as I dump it out into a pan lined with an old t-shirt so I can shake them around try to get any remaining dust on the outside of the shells. Do any of you add the Nu Finish to used media, or just the new stuff?
  15. Yeah, there may be one in my future, but I'll also be holding on to my M&P's as well. CZ should send a check to those Thailand guys.
  16. I saw some guys form Thailand at one of our club matches who were passing through. A couple of them were shooting CZ's in production and I was to say the least, very impressed. I don't get around to many matches, only the club matches here and clubs around St. Louis when I visit my brother. These guys were shooting these CZ's like I've seen limited and open shooters shoot, fast and accurate. I'm wondering how much of that was the shooter and how much was the gun, if the gun, is it the extra weight of the metal frame or are there other features not available to the M&P's. Seeing those CZ's in action got my interest. I guess they were CZ75B's?
  17. I shoot against the stage, not my competitors. However, as a goal, I like to look at someone who is better than I am and attempt to beat them on paper. I was pretty disappointed at our last club match, I felt I did pretty well, but the guy I hope to beat someday got DQ'd. I want my competitors to do well so if or when I do beat them it feels like more of an accomplishment for myself.
  18. I don't do much of anything but relax like any other sloth the day before a match with the exception of loading mags and checking ammo and load my bag. I like to get to the match with enough time to sign in and walk stages if it's USPSA.
  19. Well crap! Then what's being said about the fitting, could the difference between a Tac Star tube and Nordic Components tube make a difference with the POI? If so, this may explain my bad performance on a certain stage with slugs in the recent past. My M2 is/was shooting low.
  20. For me, I have an eight round tube and I do my best to not let it run dry so the 6 round caddys work fine. If I had a nine or ten round tube, I would definately get the 4 shell caddys. That's my reasoning anyway.
  21. I haven't shot a USPSA match that has the shooter go prone or any prop that forces a shooter to use SHO. I don't mind going prone with a rifle, just as long as it's not on the gravel which our club has done in the past.
  22. I learned by just doing it. I didn't think too much about it, they said keep your finger off the trigger and don't break the 180 and that's what I've done so far. It still took me about 6 months meaning 6 matches at that time to where I could feel comfortable enought to start thinking about going all out.
  23. I use a Blade-Tech for my M&P9. I'm not impressed with the fit, it rattles around a bit. I had one for my XD-40 when I had it, and it fit great.
  24. Are any of these mentioned besides the 5.11 water resistant. I was pretty happy one day on the way to a match when I spilled water in my lap to realize my 5.11 pants my brother gave me were water resistant.
  25. I recently bought the CED7000 along with Steve Anderson book on dry fire, after a couple of days with both I realized I should have bought a shot timer a loooooong time ago. Well, at least two years ago. The book helps a lot as well.
