  1. Come to think of it at current Tac Sol prices I have 810 USD in mags. Nope, Tac Sol wants out of the 22 conversion business.
  2. Just glad I bought mine and mags before the mags jumped to 90 bucks a pop.
  3. Nope. For that money get a Baer with a 1.5 inch guarantee...with some of the sales going on.
  4. Kimber is no longer what they were. No comparison in the fit between my personal Spartan and current Kimber offerings. Absolutely no reason not to be a Spartan. Can't get a better weapon unless you drop 1k more. Just saying. Oh and personally it's the best of the STI single stacks. I just had to get another barrel fit in a 6 inch Trojan because too much from the feet were removed by STI.
  5. Uh, JMB specs and eight round magazines. Sure add a light rail if you want or some modern tritium sights. A lot of enemies have dispatched with the issue 1911 than any other platform. Just saying.
  6. No issues with mine at all. Fiber optic front sight. CZ mags with base pads from Angus run and run.... just saying.

    Elite Model

I recently made somewhat of an impulse purchase of a Beretta elite, the first series. My sample has a black brigadier slide, barsto barrel and a Langdon trigger job, dawson fiber optic front site, basically all the work I would wanted for 650 bucks, and I can't tell it's been shot much if at all. Anyway, I'd done a little research about building up a DCM legal ball gun in the Beretta flavor and it appears the elites had thicker brigadier slides, barrels flush with the slide, and some had oem stainless barrels and others did not. As with most things after they leave production, everybody decides they want one, so prices are high. Just call a good beretta smith and see what they recommend and go with that. the elite I purchased is sweet but it's had 500 dumped into it which I would have never have done.
  8. Dan Wesson CCO, CBOB or Kimber Carry (4 inch slide, bull barrel, alloy officer's frame, series I).
  9. Because they shoot so softly, or at least mine does. Maybe someday I'll get back into shooting limited.
  10. SA isn't in the same category as STI. Go with the STI.
  11. Spartan! Frame and slide made in PI and lock work is standard STI that will take trigger work without issue. Slap a real piece of fiber optic and you're good to go. As far as who or where it's made. It's how the parts are fitted together folks and these are good. Tell you what you buy a Spartan and don't like it, I'll buy it from you for 500 bucks sight unseen.
  12. I stand corrected. The majority is always right.
  13. Spartan! Trojan is no where near worth it. Don't let these folks sell you on that. If you are ticking with a .45 then the Spartan is the way to go. I've got a lot of rounds through mine, it's loosened up a little but so has a six inch .45 Trojan that Benny Hill worked over. You won't go wrong with either, but I've liked the fit on the Spartans better. Hell I've bought three of them. Just can't walk past a 500 dollar 1911 .45 some days...okay most days. Funny, but the overwhelming majority of folks voting in the poll seem to disagree with you....and, generally speaking, the folks here are pretty well versed in the topic. Hmmmm....I've handled a number of Spartans and not one of them has been fit as well as my Trojan, or that of the other Trojans I've handled. I have a hard time believing I've only handled the worst fit Spartans and best fit Trojans. Nobody sells the Spartan for $500 either. The lowest you can find them is right around $625, so you're off by 25% We always disagree on this point, G-ManBart and I. I just think the 1K mark is bad point for 1911s regardless. Spend 500/700 more and get into a Baer or try to find a used Dan Wesson for under 1K or an old beat up series I Kimber. STI really has several high end single stacks at least by cost. STI makes great frames/slides but they are still best suited to a custom builder as the factory guns from STI I've seen just aren't worth 1k, to me of course, again as always others mileage will and does vary. The Spartan really is a hell of a deal for 625 or whatever you pay for it, I've always paid less, but others mileage may vary. It's just the Trojan ain't worth what it costs. Frame is forged, like the Spartan, and all the lock work is exactly the same, rear the rear site is an STI bomar copy and I actually like the rear site on the Spartan better. Go back and read some of the posts by Benny Hill regarding the Spartan. He said they were fit about as well as anything to come off a factory assembly line. Support STI by all means, they support IPSC, obviously we shooters do too. Both the Trojan and the Spartan will need trigger work and the Trojan will need a fiber optic front site. Spartan comes with plastic in the front site and not fiber optic or at least all of mine have, so put a piece of real fiber optic in there and let it rock. I can't believe I am championing the low cost alternative as I've done anything but personally, bought two 1911's this month alone. Just don't feel you need to spring for the Trojan if the Spartan better fits your budget. It really is the best "low" cost 1911 around currently.

  15. Thank you sir, I'll do that. I am on a visiting orthopaedics rotation at Scott and white.
  16. Going to spend the month in Temple Texas and wanted a heads up on where the best local shops are, not opposed to a 3o minute drive. Thanks and take care, P.S. any close ranges that would accept a visitor?
  17. Little to none. Spartan was fit extremely well. Just received a Trojan albeit heavily modified by Benny Hill. Slide to frame was initially extremely tight on the Trojan but has already loosened up after 200 rounds.
  18. 14 lbs ISMI spring. 12lbs may work if you gauge check each round. I'm lazy and the 14 lbs was more reliable for me. 200/230 gr minor/major load
  19. Thanks Bob for making the available and putting up with all the issues that I am sure come up with selling a trigger kit. I've watched enough 1911 trigger jobs to know that the theory may be academic but getting correct results in anything but easy. I might add that the C&S kits are more expensive for a comparable pull weight.
  20. Finally got around to getting the Brazos Pro trigger set in my new Fat Free 6 inch Trojan and I've am surprisingly satisfied. Pull weight is just under 3 lbs and crisp. I've never seen parts "drop" in quite like these. Granted they've been hand finished and you personally have to get strut/pin into the hammer but at least on a Trojan frame things line up great. Didn't need to adjust safety and passed all safety checks. So, now that I have no local gunsmith 150 bucks is cheaper than sending out to a competent smith.... But if your frame holes aren't in spec....got a feeling any kit wouldn't work as well.
  21. I'd let your smith pick the parts or go with a Caspian slide/frame....
  22. If you've spent any time on the fusion forum you've seen the beautiful pictures of customers weapons and read the raves from customers. I had been really wanting a 6 inch SS in .45 for a long time. The options have always been limited: SA made one for a while, STI Trojan/Rangemaster/Eagle 6.0, and the LB PII in 6 inch round out the production options. Anyway initially I thought I could get a Fusion 6 inch for something like 1300 USD, which was the retail price initially. By the time I had selected the options I wanted it turned out to be over 1600, should look at the receipt again for an exact amount. It seemed like I was purchasing a custom gun with exactly the features I wanted. Wait time was much longer than anticipated but Bob Serva was always readily available so it was no big deal. Bob did a great job seemingly of asking me what I wanted and sent several updated excel spreadsheets outlining the build. Upon receipt, opened up the case and immediately knew there was a problem. I had specified a flat topped slide and this slide was a normal contour. More importantly I had paid extra for a flat topped slide. After clearing the weapon I proceeded with a safety check. The thumb safety didn't have full range of motion, would not fully engage the slide notch, and had no tactical of audible click. Handled a lot of 1911s and I have NEVER seen or felt a thumb safety like this. Trigger was 3 lbs as specified and acceptable, no creep, clean break, but again I paid extra for premium trigger work. Looking over the slide and front sight I noticed a sizable gap between the bottom of the dovetail and the sight. Frame and slide fit was pretty good but nothing spectacular and nothing approaching the average Baer if one was looking for a hard fit. Called Bob and he told me that a gap underneath of the front sight was normal, send the pistol back and he would flat top the slide as specified, and the thumb safety wouldn't fully engage the slide on the 6 inch guns because of how the slide was fitted to the frame and that all the thumb safeties passed a safety check and that some people didn't prefer a tactical or audible click when either engaging or disengaging the thumb safety, even though in the thousands of 1911s I've never seen an example of one set up like this. Asked for my money back and Bob did the right thing and let me return it, unfired, on my dime. So I spent 100 bucks at the time sending it back UPS next day. As always your mileage may vary and I'm sure there are satisfied Fusion customers out there. I don't know if someone assumed that I was 22 year old student by the .edu at the end of my email address and wouldn't know any better and think that I was actually getting a 1685 dollar weapon with a slapped together gun. Called Benny Hill and spoke with him about getting a STI Trojan6 inch fat free'd. Yes, after hard chroming it turned out to be two hundred dollars more but the weapon I received is FLAWLESS.
