  1. Ultra Dot LT... Better quality than the Burris Fastfire.
  2. That's my load exactly, 4.3 gr. Clays at 200 gr MG with a OAL of 1.185.
  3. Please post your chrono data, as I'm looking for a similar load with 200 gr. Montana Gold.
  4. Just because "custom" is in the company name doesn't make their products custom. Night Hawk's guns are equivalent to the older Wilson Combat pistols before WC went to large production numbers. Kimber target models retail for 880 USD here in Little Rock if you can find them. 660 USD Kimber 5 inch guns were last seen in these parts in the mid 90's. Fire control components aren't the best and the Swartz trigger safety system complicates trigger work. A Spartan with thinner fiber optic and trigger work is the way to go. Spend the extra on bullets.
  5. What height of sight did you get? You can get them from Dawson in heights of .140, .160, .180 and .200". I want to make sure and order a taller one then..... .180 - Definitely order a .200 Jay - or at least check your stock rear sight setting - mine was all the way down out of the box... Crap, already have a .180!
  6. 7K 22 lr rounds through a Buckmark, no problems... Better than the Jpoints I've used
  7. Doing similar modifications, .100 Dawson front sight, Brown extended magazine release but no mag well; it's just a larger hole to miss. Put in a ISMI 14 lbs recoil spring. My gun doctor is waiting to finalize the trigger until after I have in hard chromed in a month or two. Finally received five Safariland 771 mag pouches so I am actually SS ready now.
  8. Me too. After messing with CZ platforms for two years, finally settled back on the 1911 and wish I'd never left. Something about the initial cost intimated me. It would have been cheaper to buy an STI upfront.
  9. How tough is the factory sight to remove? It looks like it might be stubborn. Thanks for the info!
  10. I'd like to know the width too. Emailed Dawson, but no reply.
  11. I second the 1.250 OAL, the chamber hasn't been excessively throated.
  12. Both frames, Spartan in the PI and Trojan in the US, are cast. Yes there is some more machine work on the Trojan, flat top slide, undercut trigger guard and the chain link stippling on the front strap, but does that make the frame better? My gun doc said all the internal parts with exception of guide rod and barrel were STI. So it shares a Ti hammer strut with the Trojan. Bottom line, spend your money on what you want but be objective. If the frame modifications are worth 300 dollars then go for it. For a lot of new shooters the Spartan is a GREAT way to get into shooting SS or USPSA in general and I think it's misleading to claim that the inherent qualities of the Trojan will make it last longer, as both are nearly the same weapon just with different levels of external finish.
  13. I respectfully disagree. The Spartan I ended up with is fit better than the last Trojan I had a chance to handle. Hell of a deal for 600 bucks, best thing going. Mine did have a funky mainspring that appeared to have been cut from a long spring. My gun doctor said he was going to order one after going through mine piece by piece. YMMV but you won't be disappointed and it's exponentially better than the Springfield Armory guns in terms of correct fitting.
  14. Has anyone used an Ed Brown standard magazine release with the oversize button? I’m setting up a STI Spartan and don’t like how far I have to switch my grip to release the magazine. Will this interfere with my weak hand grip? Thanks for the input.
  15. These have been supposedly "imminent" for a long time now.
  16. Check out the Ultra Dot l/t. It has a lifetime warranty through Ultra Dot and its housing is alloy. Mine has kept its zero while on a Buckmark and 3K rounds so far.
  17. ??? The sear should be as easy to install in as the stock one. Some of the early versions required some fitting, but now they drop in very easily. The sear is what reduces the pull length by about 50%, without it you would still have the long trigger pull and reset. No problems for me getting the parts back in the gun. I love mine. Springer sear, trigger bar, and spring kit. I meant modifying the stock sear. The Springer Precision sear works great well but as with all trigger components needs some fitting for maximum gain.

  19. Trigger bar is great. Prepped sear is not necessary and much harder get back into the frame than the stock sear. Get the trigger bar and springs, pass on everything else.
