  1. +1 Last week one of my shooting friends installed a JP Ultra LMOS aluminum BCG in a 16", mid length gas rifle, with a new standard JP SCS as delivered (Std spring). We started with gas off and opened it until it locked back consistently, then shot the heck out of it (Fed AR factory ammo). It was 100% reliable. Five different shooters and all agreed it is probably the softest and flatest shooting .223 rifle we've ever fired
  2. 15" is relatively new; shorter lengths have been out for a while Here's a link http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=200290
  3. Sorry you feel that way. My post about a search was meant to be helpful as there are literally dozens of threads/posts on this forum about lightweight components. If you want to take that as negative, and not take advantage of that data, so be it. I don't know how you interpret a post saying that Magnesium handguards are not all problematic as negative
  4. My point wasn't that I like my handguard. It was that it works and doesn't have thermal drift issues. I just wanted to point out, since you weren't specific, that not "all" magnesium alloy handguards have issues (if there are others) and I can only speak to the BCM since that's the only Mag one I have experience with.
  5. While I think it's great for you to promote your own carbon handguards, I don't think making a statement like "There are some magnesium ones, but they have accuracy problems with heat cycles." is helpful. I have a BCM KMR 15" handguard on my 18" fluted barrel/Seekins comp/Youngs SLC BCG upper and it is an honest .75 MOA rifle: Hot, Cold or in between. I don't mean it shot a .75 group once or twice either. With my handloads it will shoot back to back to back .75 groups all day long and 1/3 of those will be under .5. I don't think Taran believes they have a stringing problem either
  6. I don't understand your comment. I just did a search for "lightweight upper" in "rifle technical" and got 3 pages of links
  7. +1 What he said........In addition, the Hornady 55 FMJ's are the most accurate FMJ's in all of my AR's
  8. In my pistols the #161 bullet (.356") shoots better than the #135C bullet (.355"). The 135C shoots very good but the Hornady HAP 125 gr. or the Zero #161 125 gr. shoot the best.
  9. What did the other 10 groups you shot look like?
  10. Your best bet is to get some help locally from a knowledgeable shooter or gunsmith. This problem should/could be diagnosed at the range in a few minutes, firing very few rounds, with the right help. Trying to diagnose a mechanical problem from miles away on a website, while it is sometimes possible, is at best, not very efficient or timely.
  11. http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showforum=194 Great product great service
  12. Actually, I think you meant to say 2" longer than a normal mid-length gas system (what their web site says) and 1.5" shorter than rifle length gas. So......barrel 2" shorter (18"-16") Gas 1.5" shorter=.5" less dwell distance/time.
  13. No experience with the WC gas block, but I can tell you I have two of the SLR Sentrys and they will both close off the gas completely. The two I have are on completely different set-ups (16"-carbine gas, 18"-rifle gas) and I was able to dial them both in to perfection, albeit, at a different number of clicks out from closed.
  14. The BCM maybe great but I can't say that I've ever seen BCM as a match sponsor. I for one choose to support the companies that support us.If you want light weight get a carbon fiber rails from AP Custom or Lancer. While BCM may not be a big supporter of 3-gun, they make great products, have great service and they are big supporters of the US Military, military veterans, and the NRA-ILA. Pretty important stuff in the bigger picture. Just for info; the BCM-KMR is lighter than the carbon rails if you include the mounting system (barrel nut, etc.)
  15. +1 Lighter than most, if not all, if you include barrel nut
  16. +1 on the AR Gold and I'm sure Jesse meant a Really Good 1911/STI type trigger, Not a good Glock trigger like some of the triggers mentioned
  17. If you wear corrective lenses or have an astigmatism you may want to consider something like the Leupold Prismatic rather than a red dot as it can be adjusted to your preference (wearing corrective lenses or not)
  18. Just installed one of these: http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCM-KMR15-Free-Float-Handguard-p/bcm-kmr-15-556-blk.htm Very light, very slim, and very stiff, and comes with 2 rails and tools
  19. The Search function is your friend
  20. So.....since this thread has seemingly established the following: A. These barrels shoot as accurately as a quality steel barrel B. These barrels are as thermally stable as a good quality steel barrel C. The 18" Carbon wrapped barrel is about 8 ozs. lighter than a stainless match 18" barrel (we don't know the profile or actual weight of either) Therefore: the purpose of spending the extra $$$ is strictly a reduction in weight for the same length barrel.(O.K. there is the undeniable cool factor ) So to me, the key question would be: how much time did this barrel save you in close range transitions and/or splits when directly compared to the same rifle with the steel barrel?
  21. You beat me to posting it! The thing that caught my attention the most on this thread was concern about barrel heating and sustained accuracy. After I got my Proof barrel installed (brake in was already done), I headed out to the range to get some dope on the new rig.I shot about 20 shots to get the gas tuned just right, and another 5 to get it dialed in with the 1-6 Z6i. After making all of the adjustments, I loaded up a mag with 55gr american eagle and shot 30 rounds at 5 targets at 200 yards, as fast as I could accurately hit them, then changed mags to my 69gr match ammo and shot this 5 shot group. I would be happy with that group from any gun, but considering this one has a barrel that I weighed to be 8oz lighter than my previous 18" match barrel and the barrel was heated up to match conditions, I am thrilled! Also, i was shooting outdoors off a single sand bag, the weather was about 50 degrees, light drizzle and the wind was 5-10 full value left to right. If the weather was better, I would have done a few more tests, but I was tired of being wet. That's one hell of a group considering wind drift of a 69 gr SMK at 2800 FPS MV with a 5-10 MPH crosswind is .6"-1.2" @ 100 yds.
  22. I'm running one of Taran Tactical's "TTI Ulitimate Light-Speed Buffer Spring" in one of my AR's with 18" rifle gas, Seekins ATC comp, Young's SLC (Super Light Carrier), SLR Adj gas block, rifle buffer tube, and JP LMOS buffer and I'm very pleased with the performance. If you measure the length and spring rate of Taran's spring, you will find as I did, that it is very, very close to a std. carbine spring in length and rate. Function is 100% and it reduces the secondary recoil impulse
