  1. Just to be clear, the targets did actually have a mechanism to stop the spinning. Sadly, the bolt that kept it from spinning broke off nearly every target as the match went on. We realized that the bolt was slightly too high on the neck which allowed the plate to hit it when it was shot. Repeat a hundred times or so and they broke off. We did the best we could once this started. This was one of those things that I wish I had found before the match started.
  2. I just got the DeltaPoint pro dot and it is reallllly small. I haven't been able to shoot with it yet as I'm still waiting for my M&P core to arrive.
  3. Is there any way you would be willing to upload those to youtube? Photobucket leaves a lot to be desired when sharing video.
  4. I have no idea what is going on here but I want it.
  5. Do you ever have problems with the cable pulling away from the anchor on the other side of the popper? Ie the cable getting yanked out of the ground?
  6. I like it mostly - the signature grip did not fit my hand as well as I expected so I'm switching it out for the infinity regular. Couple of benefits for me - (1) mags slide in and out easier. I've never had a mag hang up in my steel grip - they almost feel slick going in and out. (2) weight is nice to soak up any extra recoil. The gun just seems to sit there. (3) if you have a strong grip like mine, sometimes you can squeeze the plastic grip together a little bit which can cause a mag to hang up. I sometimes have to tell myself to relax on the gun to get mags to drop out of my plastic grip. No chance of that happening on the steel grip. Cons are of course cost and fitting. Fitting can be hit or miss depending on the brand. Also some people don't like the extra weight or feel the metal works as a tuning fork to transmit vibrations. I've never felt that but it does seem possible.
  7. I use HS6 with 115 MG JHP. No smoke so I would assume any must be from the coated bullets. Always been a solid load with little recoil or flip.
  8. I took a class with Max - best money I ever spent on USPSA. His main focus in the 3 days of shooting was movement. Not splits, not even reloads or draws but movement. The way he put it, you can only shoot as fast as you can shoot - ie see the sights and make good shots. The shooting speed is almost predetermined by the target difficulty and your ability (which of course you can practice to get better at). So knowing that, the place to make up time is in movement. Watching him shoot, the little stutter steps are huge for him. They slow him down as he is entering a position but it also allows him to stay steady which allows him to start shooting as he enters a position rather than wait until he is stopped and set. It sounds a little funny on dry dirt we have in NM - big blast out of a position with big hard steps then these fast rat a tat tat shuffling steps as he is getting into a shooting position. I've started really making myself do it even if it is unnatural for me right now because it really does settle you down faster into the shooting. Also, you'll notice that he sits really low as he is settling into a position - ie knees really bent then slowly extending as he is shooting in a position. This also really helps in body control and stability - but does require you to do some leg workouts to get your legs strong enough to handle shooting in a squat. If the opportunity comes up, spend the money and take a class with him. You will come away with more than you can put into place but better yet, you will have a practice regime that will help you on the fundamentals that make the difference.
  9. This is actually very simple: Trophies by order of finish, prizes by random draw. This makes sense from many angles. Sponsors: Sponsors are giving you product to build brand awareness. A random draw competitor is significantly more likely to keep the item they win vs a order of finish competitor. Keeping the item means they have more likelihood of talking about the item to their friends thus giving you the brand awareness you were seeking. A order of finish competitor is more likely to sell the item they win. Neither they, or the person that purchases the item from them have any incentive to talk about the origin of the item thus losing the brand awareness growth the sponsor is looking for. Competitors: The vast majority of USPSA shooters are unlikely to win a major match. Thus, in a order of finish table they are unlikely to ever win anything of much value. This diminishes the value of the prize table as a competitor draw - the can koozie I win for finishing 147th place doesn't do much for me. However, random draw means I have just as much chance of winning a gun as Max Michel does. That is much more interesting and a bigger prize table actually has meaning now. Match management: Set up for a random draw is simple. Coordination of multiple prize tables for the top winners of each division is difficult. Choose the easier path and reserve the effort for other things that may not get done otherwise. I can't buy a legit 1st place trophy. That is the meaningful part. I can buy the prize table guns (clearly) - they don't have the prestige that the trophy does. Why link the two?
  10. The strange thing is that I have another open gun that is very similar. I use the same mags on both and do not have this problem with that gun. Never the less, I'm adjusting the mag lips to see if it helps.
  11. Looks like the same issue - I'll give that a try and report back. I'll also try a 8lb recoil spring and see if that makes a difference.
  12. .360 in front and .340 in back on one I just measured.
  13. Check both ejector and extractor for chips and they are both good. What length should the ejector be? I believe I already have an extended ejector.
  14. I know it is the slide hitting driving the brass into the barrel hood - just not sure why? These rounds didn't jam the gun up this time but maybe next time. 38SC @ 173 PF Sideways c-more mount 9lb recoil spring Replaced the springs in the AFTEC, problem persists Ejector? Extractor?
  15. High Desert Classic Stages are out! Stage Videos: https://youtu.be/d-iqiD5BXB0?list=PLyRfISskCqIB6JdUgeFxV4tIxCKIgo0Mw Stage PDF's: http://rgpsc.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/2015-High-Desert-Classic.pdf
  16. Shipping ammo with USPS is also illegal so please don't do that. Ups or FedEx. Shipping ammo for a national match that hasn't been chronoed is not an uncommon mistake. I don't blame a new shooter for taking the manufacturers word for it. He should have verified if possible - but sometimes that's not practically possible. That extra, next level caution is something you get from an experience like this. As was pointed out, it really isn't possible to guarantee that a certain ammo will meet a specific power factor in every gun. I would recommend the manufacturer add some caveats to their site.
  17. so you're ok with people ripping off the work of others without compensation ...? Be fair. Saying someone ripped him off adds a connotation that the person maliciously took his video and used it for his own nefarious ploys. The truth is whoever did this very likely expected this to be received positively by Paul and others. They credited him in the description at least (never saw the video). They didn't benefit from it themselves, only did what they likely thought was a service. Also, they probably never saw this savvily produced infomercial: https://youtu.be/HmZm8vNHBSU
  18. I had to have a sinus lift (upper tooth) so I didn't include that. That cost another $1,500. I think a regular bone graft would have been included had I not needed the sinus lift. Xrays, office visits, ect included. all in looks like this: Sinus Lift $1,500 Implant $1,200 Abutment & Crown $2,000 Total $4,700
  19. Doing it now and it is expensive. Implant was about $1,200 and the crown $2,000. I think I could have gotten the crown cheaper if I had shopped around but I've been going to the same dentist for 25 years and figured it was worth it to just keep all my records in the same place.
  20. Using competition to market to competitors only is a failing strategy. I could elaborate, but I get paid for marketing work these days. ;-) Bingo. The competition "tag" is more valuable to them than actual competition sales.
  21. If I had it to do over, I would buy all MBX. My two 170's with the new followers are perfect. I've never seen the original SV's but even if you could find them I can't see how they would be any better than the avaliable MBX mags.
  22. For me, "flat" is not anywhere near as important as predictable. My dot goes up and right back to the same place. So long as it doesn't leave the glass, I'm not too worried about how high it goes up. I just want it to end up in the same place after each shot. Recoil control is very important regardless of how flat your gun is. Poor recoil control on even a .22 will cause problems.
