  1. I don't have any pin in the gas plug on either of my MPX's. Just make sure it is twisted all the way over and it should be good to go.
  2. Just following up on this - how has the star worked out? I have to replace two MGM stars worth of springs and it is over $100. I would love to not have this maintenance any longer!
  3. My understanding has always been that "outside of the shooting area" means both feet out. I recently received an email from a section coordinator that changed that understanding. From the email: "Over the last few months there has been some USPSA Rule discussion at the local matches as to what the definition of "Outside the shooting area" really means. When a Written Stage Briefing (WSB) states a feet start position as "Standing outside shooting area" some competitors believe that this means that both feet have to be fully outside of the shooting area. Then other competitors believe that only one foot needs to be touching outside of the shooting area and the other foot can start within the shooting area. I searched through the rule book trying to find the answer but I couldn't find one. I reached out to USPSA's DNROI Troy McManus with the question to see if he could provide some clarification. Troy provided a prompt reply with the below response. There you have it, directly from the proverbial horses mouth. If the WSB verbiage is left vague, such as only stating "Standing outside shooting area" then it is perfectly legal for a competitor to start with one foot in and one foot out. Gamer's gotta game after all right? For the stage designers and match directors within the section, please take note of this clarification so you can provide the proper WSB verbiage to keep the competitor fully outside of the shooting area or not as needed. Have fun and be safe!!! Response from Troy McManus...... If you can be penalized for shooting while touching outside the shooting area, then you are outside the shooting area. The issue here is the wording of the WSB, and the assumption that "outside" means both feet outside. Per the rules, it doesn't necessarily mean that. The WSB should state something like "completely outside the fault lines", "both feet outside the fault lines", "both feet touching the ground outside the fault lines" or something like that, in order to avoid misunderstanding about what "in" or "out" means to the competitor with regard to the start position. The bottom line is, it needs to be clearly and specifically spelled out." This will change how I write up my standard start position start. Frankly it doesn't really make sense to me as one foot out doesn't mean "out" to me but rather "Faulting". Guess I will change that thinking.
  4. I have the ELF Ar10 trigger in my MPX. It feels great but has become very finicky on adjustment. Sometimes doesn't reset. They suggested that I locktite the adjustment screw. Once set and working it is a great trigger.
  5. I think the "extra weight makes it hard to move" thing is way overblown. Until you get to absurd weight differences it is more of a mental thing that anything else. Or maybe I'm just really strong.
  6. Had one in my stocking. They rock!
  7. Only thing that I'm unhappy about is the dates. I won't be there this year simply because I love my kids and want them to be able to hunt easter eggs with family rather than hang out in a hotel in vegas while daddy shoots a match. Understand that scheduling is difficult and there is always conflicts. But conflicting with another match vs conflicting with major holidays is a big difference. Surely we can skip Easter and Christmas for shooting weekends...
  8. The reason has nothing to do with any competitive advantage of a upright mount. Rather it is generally because those "winning at the top end" have been doing it a while and the sideways setups are newer than they are. You stick with what you know and they know upright. I don't think there is a huge difference between either but I do know that I am more comfortable switching back and forth between iron sights and dot when the dot is close to the same level the irons are. That is why I run a sideways mount.
  9. It's odd but the first person provided by the pivothead glasses always makes me motion sick. It doesn't happen with my goPro mounted on my head - maybe just enough motion in the glasses to make me sick - who knows. I learn some things from the head mounted video but mostly it is fun to relive a run and share with friends and family who want to see it but don't have the time to sit and wait for my run.
  10. There is no perfect solution to this. The current system, while imperfect, covers the most bases in my opinion. Hit to score would cause so many problems. Moreover, in my opinion, steel is fun to shoot. I'm willing to put up with some potential and real competitive problems to have fun - especially when the only sure fire way to fix them is to eliminate the fun.
  11. Is that comp longer than your normal?

  13. Kristen just shot this down when she saw me going through the match book. "What? 15? You can't do caddyshack and stop at 15 stages! He needs to fit three more short stages in there somewhere!" Maybe next year when you are a little more true to the canon. Looks like a great match!
  14. Wonder what kind of deal I could get on a last minute plane ticket? And a new wife since the one I have would leave me for traveling for another match... Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
  15. There is another advantage to being an RO or even working up to being a MD or RM. Seeing a good match run the right way. It is sooo much work to put on a match I can't even really describe it. But when everything comes together, the competitors and staff have a fun safe match - it is immensely rewarding. Heck, I even enjoy seeing people finding holes in what I thought was a bullet proof stage design. I enjoy seeing other people being clever or seeing other people *think* they are being clever.
  16. I have an elf ar-10 trigger. Works well, very durable. Much better than the stock trigger. Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
  17. Just to add my two cents - I'm running a ELF ar-10 trigger in my MPX carbine and it runs great.
  18. I mean like a stick poking out if the ground within the shooting area. That would be nothing like fault lines, shooting boxes, or props and activators. That would be a tripping hazard. So, it is ok to trip on the previously mentioned items, but now we are more worried about a thin vertical rod/ pipe?Point is he points out a very easy solution to a lot of previous gripes. He unlike me is a MD, who has a lot of experience in the matter, but that isn't good enough. With every solution it seems some only find more to gripe about. The reason I responded, is I happen to trip over a fault line on Sunday. It is what it is, there at any given match plenty of items to trip over, at major match we love the wazoo stages. Climbing, holding ropes, swings, even riding roller coaster carts. Yet the idea of a stake is crazy. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk If you don't understand that a rod sticking out of the ground in the middle of the stage is different than a fault line I can't help you.

  20. Does the aim point reside within the shooting area? Seems like it could be a tripping hazard unless I misunderstand how it is used.
  21. When this was proposed everyone that was not on board was told "don't worry - it's optional. MD's who are not on-board can opt out. Nothing to worry about." Now that MD's are actually opting out we are told that is "selective discrimination". Good grief. Get Jessie Jackson on the line.
  22. True. This will take a whole 'nother line in the WSB. When you aren't the one that has to do the work it probably does sound easy . When you have 1000 other things to worry about adding even a minor 1001 is not necessarily a piece of cake. Why SH and WH? That's the PCC shooter's problem. As an MD you can't really just say that's their problem and forget about it. I have to make sure that the stage is safe for everyone shooting it and that I'm not creating challenges that not everyone can complete. I have to think about how each division will attempt the stage and be sure I am not creating an issue. Throwing PCC into the mix adds another division and an oddball at that. There will likely not be many real issues but I can't ignore them. PCC is fun and can be integrated safely. But there are trade offs and pretending that an MD is being unreasonable is a quick way to kill it before it gets moving.
  23. It also takes time getting used to it. I hated the steel for the first 500 rounds. Started to really come around after that and now I can't stand the poly. Numbers say I'm faster with steel but wasn't at first.
