  1. just use a shell holder for whatever caliber you are trying to pull
  2. maybe this is the one thing that USPSA could do that IDPA does. Do a equipment check on sign in day. put your rig on and let the RM and a CRO, or the crony crew do a inspection and correct the shooter before the match starts. if you show up the next day to shoot with a mag pouch, holster or belt incorrect configuration then you shoot for no score, end of story if you diviate from the rule book.
  3. you can buy a H-S directly from Savage as they use them on a few of there factory rifles
  4. one thing as a novice shooter, is you'll be squaded with a group of master class shooter. it's a group of 3 per shooting lane. 1 shooter, 1 spotter/scorer and 1 person in the pits. NRA has always done this to help the new shoots get good advise to continue shooting in their sport. One mistake you will not want to make while you are scoring for the 200 yard sitting and the 300 yard prone is to not be looking down the scope while the acutal shooting for score is going one. you and the shooter can be penilized for it. you can do it during the 2 sighting shots to help steer the shooter onto the target if its windy conditions. as a scorer, your job is to make sure that only 10 shots are fired per sting, and to get the score when the target comes back up. make sure you take 20 rnd mag, as the 30 rounders are not allowed. take a set of thick elbow pads alone with good shooting mat. you'll be amazed how the ground can get tru them during the 600 yard prone stage.
  5. you should be able to, but you will be at a big disadvantage with your setup. the rules require a A2 version for the DCM service rifle class. you will probably have to be in the "match" catagory. you will need to get a good sling for the 200 yard sitting, 300 rapid prone and the 600 yard slow fire. Find a local high power shooter and have them teach you how to use a sling properly.
  6. the sad thing is that the conceled market for the revo market is geared towards the 7 shot medium frame revo's and im my case a 8 shot 327 S&W with a 2" barrel and IDPA says you can't use it in their revo division. these are some the most sold firearms used for conceled carry and IDPA just ignores it.
  7. here's my 6". I got to run it today at a local match. I does seem to have more muzzle flip than when it was a 5"
  8. get a savage F class in 6.5x284 its way cheaper than a 338 on won't beat your shoulder up. if you use the berger 140gr bullet and launch it at 2950fps then is will drop out of sub sonic at 1800 yards with is over a mile, and if you have the right scope with enough adjustment and a 20moa base then you can make adjustment out to it.
  9. I think that we should all shoot barefooted, then no one would have a signifigant advantage. also I wouldn't have those annoying pebbles to deal with anymore
  10. seems to me that if you would have announced to the squade that the "range is going hot" then the person sweeping brass would have heard you and stopped what they were doing and let he course of fire begin. From a lot of the comments so far, the concensous seems to be DQ the individual for handling the firearm before the offical start of the COF. Many years ago, I had gotten a stern warning to not ever handle my firearm until the RO had given me the Load and Make ready command. When i run the clock, I will let the shooter know that they can be DQ'd for handling there firearm before the make ready command, if they do do it. I consider it a courtousy to the shooter. we do tend to learn from our mistakes, and this is one, that from what i've seen, does happen to everyone from time to time. call it complacence, mind on something else or just a brain fart. At some point, all the RO's do need to take ownership of the stage they are running and try and make it as safe as possible for all the shooters and spectators. if this involves walking the course because they can't see behind all the props, to make sure no one is still taping, or having the squad quiet down for the on deck shooter, or announcing that the "range is going hot", then so be it. The official course of fire does begin at "make ready" and that is what the shooter should be making sure to hear it clearly. For those who do feel that the COF range commands should be followed, then a immediate DQ should not even be argued with, if given, but some form of id should be required to let the RO know that you are a stickler of the rules. my opinion and I know I cant spell to save my life.
  11. I don't think so. Rudy Warren and I did help Chris get set up a little bit on saturday. mainly get all the bags of ammo set up numerically
  12. why would a rules change need form need to be submitted when the rule already exist in the rule book for penaltiies overtime shots??? It's 10 seconds for a fixed time stage. Hitting a stop plate out of order is a 30 second penalty not 60 seconds. If a form needs to be submitted, then one needs to be submitted to allow the use of the AP-1 target that was used on the F&N stage this year. The only target allowed by the ICORE rule book is the NRA D-1 target and the rule change still need to be submitted to allow the x-ring to be colored. My suggeston to the people who actually are going to put the match on next year, submit the stages to Jeff and let him work the rules bugs out before the match happens. One thing that I can suggest to help Chris Sallee out next year on the chrono stage is for all the shooters to submit their ammo at the sign in on thursday. this will give him that first night to pull bullets and weigh them. Art and Dave had some real hair pullers at this years match and I am planning on submitted a rules change to try and get one of the problems fixed. I'd like to thank them and the rest of the IRC crew for putting ont the show.
  13. do away with the procedurals for taking a sight picture at the 25, 10 and 3 yard line. I think that a persons match shouldn't go south for a kind of stupid penalty. I didn't get hit with it, but did see it happen. For the most part, the only place where people would could take advantage of no par time is at the 10 yard line. at least for me. maybe a alternate start for the 50 yard line is to make a mad dash for the targets and try and get your 6 shoots off in the 9 seconds.
  14. I used some 101FC Trucote brazing rod (45% silver) to fix my yoke that I damaged last month. I held up for the IRC
  15. I'll stick to my 4" mountain gun that I run in ESR. IDPA really doesn't have any distance type shooting to want more sight radius. as far as allowing a 5" gun to be shoot in a sanctioned match, they should allow it and see how many more shooters they could get to come out and play. and if they actually do see the real life light, they should allow us to run the 7 and 8 shot snubbies that many people who do carry every day, do actually carry.
  16. I saw 3 with no eye protection. hopefully it was staged for NBC
  17. you should probably get a spare capacitor. if you don't have a multimeter that can check caps, they you can usually tell a bad one since it swelled up or has leaked a white almost tooth paste looking fluid.
  18. speer makes a 300gr GoldDot bullet just for the 454. i've used it im 45 colt blackhawk to hunt elk and deer with. its made with a thicker jacket to keep it together. the other bullets i've use for elk are the 265gr LBT, 325gr LBT and 335gr LBT. The powder that I use a hodgdons Lil'gun which doesn't require the use of a magnum primers and will do everything the W296/H110 with less pressure, and tends to get more velocity out of it. Very nice powder. Hornady makes a very accurate match bullet, but from what I've seen, there hunting handgun bullets don't perform like advertised.
  19. what type of front sight do you have? On my M&P9L, I went from a red fiber rod to a plain black to play with shooting it in bianchi. I have a real hard time finding the sights and tend to get into the par times on the practical and barricade events with the plain sight. You might try going to a fiber rod to speed up your time to get on the front sight.
  20. since 2009, my wages have increased by 21%. I'm now in the "holy shit, I pay that much taxes and I have to pay more to break even with uncle sam" bracket. The option of finding a woman with 10 kids and claim them all, is starting to look pretty good. I've seen how some of the top shooters will take a gun off the prize tables and sell them to recoop some of their cost. I wonder it they actually apply it as hobby loss with all the actual match travel, hotel, fee practice ammo and gun sale? I'll have this year to gather actual info and receipts to see if its plausable for next april 15.
  21. Steve, if you use a demooning rod, or a straight rod, stack all your moons on it and line them up. The bent moons will stand out. Don't use your golf club handle as its tapered and will not be able to to get them lined up
  22. while I was doing my taxes, the question came up under hobbies. can you apply major match fee, lodging, travel expense to our taxes? has anybody been out there been able to do it. really curious, i'm getting tired of paying taxes, 3rd year in a roll for me.
  23. i've still yet to recieve any notice that my app has been recieved. I had sent it in the mail in 2/22/12, same day as my 2012 IRC app. got their confirm on 3/2. still waiting for yours. don't mean to be this way, but maybe you can let me know on a this thread if you received it. thanks
  24. your can fire short colt in your 38 super. I've done it just to get ride of some that I had loaded. you will have to use 38/357 mooncips to do it. I did experience some light hits with it, since you do have a little more distance from the firing pin to primer.
