  1. I'll have to second on the Aftec. I thought the same thing as BE when they first came out. Then, early in .... last year (almost wrote this year), I was having sparatic problems that I thought were mag related. (Got lots of good mag advise here, but couldn't solve the problem. Figured it might be the extractor. Dropped in an Aftec and hadn't had a problem since. No rounding, radiusing AND no adjusting of tension. Still, this looks like a viable option.
  2. I get my MP7 pro at..... Brownells http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/store/Pro...-PRO+7+PRODUCTS Seems they call it MPro 7. That can be a little confusing. Also, very glad this thread started... reminded me it's time to get some.
  3. STI is a great company to deal with. There are a few questions though. Was the gun bought complete from STI or did someone else build it? (May or may not matter). If it was built, did you supply the slide or was it provided by the gun builder? If provided, then I'd take it back to the builder. He may have a quicker time dealing with it plus he should refit as part of the warantee. Finally, did the front cocking serations come with the slide from STI or were they cut in after the fact?
  4. I had kept a spare on hand for a while, but I used it at one point and never replaced it. Being I shoot mostly production anymore, the STIs and SV collect a lot of dust. As for bringing spare parts to a match,,, I find it easier to bring a second gun.
  5. Just to add a comment on the A8 match, yeah I think being held in New Jersey was the hard part. The Jersey laws are bad, but their reputation is worse. Pretty much, no handgun is illegal, except those that mimic sub guns like the mini Uzi or Tech 9. Magazines cannot hold more than 15 rounds... which was why a "Factory Gun" platform was perfect. There is even an old fax from the State Police that said you could temporarily block the magazines to hold no more than 15. Many locals used wooden dowels to limit the capacity of the magazine. Lastly keep the stuff locked in the trunk or case (for SUV, wagons...), and only travel to and from the range, hotel, or your home with your "stuff". That was pretty much it. I understand why people are hesitant. I've heard the "stories". Hell, I even moved out (happy PA resident now, thank you very much). But Old Bridge, New Jersey puts on one heck of an IPSC match. They hold a seven stage outdoor match every month (except December) with a shotgun or rifle side match April thru October, they hold two indoor "IPSC Like" matches every month, two steel challange matches every month. Plus various other special matches such as "Pocket Gun" match, 3 gun tactical match, Shotgun IPSC match. If you live close enough, it's really worth learning the NJ laws and going. As for holding another Area Match, probably not as long as the laws are the way they are (and the reputation). What I'd consider doing is an IROC match of shooting. First get a few sponsors to donate a couple of guns. Each of those guns would be used on given stage. As long as we have an FFL on site, and since it is legal to rent guns... I think it's doable. And all people would need to bring is a belt, "eyes" and "ears". [You listening Jim? - OK, now remove foot from mouth].
  6. Yep Shred, that was the part I was missing. I called up Bob at Brazos and he filled me in. Was very helpful, and had the parts... and I didn't have to spend $250 bucks! Thanks again, Bob!!
  7. Careful Flex. Your very likely to encounter two Daves shooting production with a GM next to their names.
  8. I'll second the MP7 Pro. I buy a gallon (about $35) and pour into a 2.5 gallon pail and use it as a parts washer. I have a screen and brushes. It works great and I get about 8 months out of it. I tried doing the same with Simple Green, but it stunk up the work room and the Dehumidifier sucked the pail dry in a little over a month.
  9. Brazo's: Very cool. I will order some. Seems like the sleeve side strips as well. I assume that you don't have Torx sleeves? That would be very cool!!
  10. So, I'm trying to order just the front screws and bushings. SV doesn't even list it on their site. STI does list them and I can buy online. GREAT.... But wait... there's a catch. STI has a minimum $250 order. SIGH Hopefully I can call in the order.
  11. Last night I was doing some mods on my two STI .40s and both these d*mn screws / collars / bushings (WTH you call them) stripped on me. I'm using good Snap On allen wrenches, but it doesn't seem to matter. Had to drill one out, but I finally got the other one out without the drill, but the part is ruined. Guess I'll have to order a pile of these and change them each time I take it apart. (Hmm, maybe that's the intention). Seems to me there has to be a better way to attach this in the front. Man.. I should have kept the Caspian .40 Much simpiler!
  12. Jim, Can you define "Hunter Class"? Oh yeah, is that a class or a division For an easier time getting to the link, here -> http://www.obcats.com/
  13. You cleaned your Glock!!! Don't you know it's going to fall apart now? The grit and grime is what holds it together. Yeah, I'll have to second what Dave said. Such a tremendous amount of work for such a dismal turnout. Even local shooters didn't come because they thought the $95 match fee (which included a match golf shirt) was too much. Note: This match had both cash and prize table payout (9 or 10 guns + much more). Trips to the prize table were equally balanced relative to the number of shooters in each division.
  14. Anyone who calls Frank a hoser, hasn't been to his match. Accuracy was critical, especially hitting turtles at 20+ yards!
  15. Nick: Glad you like the load. It certainly saves a few $$$ not having to have a seperate top end. The only thing you need to go from IDPA to IPSC is a heavier recoil spring, longer mags, and maybe a bigger mag well. BTW: You said you like the load... but you don't think you'll be using it anymore?? Did I understand this correctly? If so, why not. Are you worried about pressure? I shoot 4.6 grains Clays behind the 180 in my STI for IPSC and have yet to have a problem. I also shoot the minor load (3.2, don't ever do the major clays in "production" guns) in a Berettas and Glocks, which are no where near as robust as your SV. HighTech: If my calc is correct, this is only a 126 power factor. Too close to the edge for my blood. I like to run at least 135pf. Keep in mind at this years FGN, the chrono gun was running 131. Have you gotten higher velocity out of the 310 with 147s or are you maxed out? I still have a bunch of 147 heads to use up.
  16. About a month ago I came across the schematic for the Springfield XD. Man, this gun has a whole lot of parts. (For those that compare this gun to the Glock, this is where they're at the other end of the spectrum!!) Also, lots of them parts look like tiny parts. My question is, does anyone have one that they've put 25K plus through yet? If so, how's it holding up? Replace any parts yet?
  17. I just had Novak put a custom set of sights on my 1911. He started with his sight with no sight notch and cut it to .110. He put his front on and trimmed it to .090. The verdict isn't out yet, but I think I may like this better than my Bomars.
  18. My wife bought me an 11-87 for our 1 year wedding anniversary. Can't give it up for sentimental reasons. Still, I've yet to get it run 100%. I'm not known to hold firearms "tightly", so it may in part be me. If I was in the market today, I'd have to try a recoil operated model such as the Bennelli.
  19. Tightloop, stick strong with your convictions. Maybe someday enough people will to make a small dent. I to this day will not pay to see a movie with Mark Wahlberg, Alec Baldwin, Rosie O'Dipshit... If you think the movie would be good, wait till it airs on TV. If you REALLY need to see it, buy a ticket for a different movie then go to the movie you wanted to see. If the Dems think that gun control was enough of a sore spot to affect Gore's run for presidency, then maybe there's enough of us to put the bite on some of the entertainment industry.
  20. Are you sure you don't mean .38 ACP? Most .380s are a blowback design and I'd doubt you could push it that hard.
  21. While people like this can be very annoying, I still think it is worth it to befriend them and make them understand our passion. The real enemy are the anti's, and we're on the furthest arm of the other side. We need to make non-ipscers realize that "Well I don't need more than 10 rounds in a magazine" is a dangerous precendence. We (shooters) need to all be in this together.
  22. Nik, There is a difference between the Colt 80's series pistol and the Kimber. The Colt uses the trigger movement to move the firing pin block out of the way, where as the Kimber uses the grip safety to do the same... I think. Vlad, careful... sounds like Nik is trying to up some of his STglOCK options. Actually, you should really consider the STI in that price range. May be a tiny bit higher, but the customer service would be well worth it in my opinion. I've pestered them quite a bit and always a quick curtious response and they stand behing their product 100%. STI is usually at every major match. Plus, if you do get to shooting some big matches, they do have the contingency awards which is worth looking into. Also, I'm surprised you're not looking at one of the .45 CZ variants
  23. That used to be an old Open Division trick, to shoot back poppers first. I'll admit, it's much more macho to do it with Iron Sights.
  24. Please point me to this forum and or these articles. Thanks!!
  25. I think he only pushes for Federal primers with the Level 3. Still, seems to light the Wins just fine.
