  1. Sniper, No worries Mate! I just have a deep seated aversion to wearing those clunky, ugly vests just for 1.5 minutes of shooting in a typical 8 stage match lasting 5 hours.. Take it off, put it on, take it off, and so on. Honestly, most of my shooting parntners wear those stupid things, and I constantly make fun of them! And, to be fair, they constantly insult my 'Excelent Hawaain Shirts' So there you have it, I draw from an IWB, inside of a shirt, and they go from an outside belt holster with a vest.
  2. It's 9x45, not 9x25... Sniper, you are the one who is playing Bill's game, not me. I am in it for the trigger time, that's all. I shoot USPSA, Steel Challenge, and 3-gun. I know that all the 'TOP' IDPA shooters use Tactical Vests, like you think I don't know them.... That's not my point! Try a Bill Drill, with your VEST, then from your REAL concealment garment, everyday, in eveyway. Check your times. You are fooling yourself in the end. But it just depends on what you want to achieve...
  3. If you are serious, you will where what you normally conceal with. I allways wear heavy cotton Hawaains, but sometimes just draw from underneath at T-shirt. Tac vests are phony, nobody wears them everyday, not even photographers or cops.....
  4. 9x45

    Glock 34

1" at 50 yards with a fitted BarSto, from the bench, the right ammo and with a light trigger and good sights
  5. Any drop in pre-fit barrel may give you a little more accuracy than the factory barrel, after all, it's a drop-in pre-fit. If you want the best, with the best ammo, go with a gunsmith fitted BarSto.
  6. You can't have tactical sequence and tactical priority if cover is available. According to your stage description, you were required to slice the pie, which is the same as cover. "Tactical priority is also used when you lean out from cover to engage targets (slicing the pie); targets are considered priority based on their order of visibility to the shooter (shoot them as you see them)" I would have protested for an illegal stage. Now, if you could see all the targets at once, and they are less than 2 yards from each other, then all you really have is tactical sequence, ie, shoot each one each time before shooting them a 2nd time because you can see them all at once
  7. Everyone is forgetting that IDPA rules are the opposite of USPSA rules. Since there are 6 USPSA classes, it means there must be not 6 in IDPA. It's like all the other rules. Ports and boxes in USPSA, not in IDPA, it's a window and starting position. No cover in USPSA, cover in IDPA. Reload how you want in USPSA, reload from cover in IDPA with retention or at slide lock. As many mags as you want in USPSA, only 2 for IDPA, and so on. IDPA is not about practical shooting, it's Bill Wilson's counterpoint to USPSA... And very clever of him, I would say.
  8. Mark, That's because we don't like to scare each other with that open carry you have in Arizona. Really, there are lots of people who have CCW permits here. However, you are much less likely to get one in LA county than in San Bernardino/San Diego/Kern and the northern counties. By the way, I notice that Arizona has 'recognition' of CA permits now. Revchuck, are you suggesting I not wear them for kneeling at the alter rail during communion? Actually both knees are wrecked from too many motorcycle crashes (I did quit riding, finally)
  9. "They couldn't ban the domke or 5.11 vest, just about all the IDPA shooters would be practically naked " Only if all you guys really are cops... And cops are allowed to wear their duty gear, inlcuding thigh holsters. "The 5.11 vest features 16 speciliazed pockets for rifle mags, radios, pistol mags, flashlights, pepper spray with Velcro badge tab and brass key clip. And the picture shows handcuffs, baton, and back-up gun. Imported" So all you IDPA shooters wear this vest all the time at work, at home, running erands, going to dinner, etc, but when you come to a match, you take out the badge, keys, cuffs, radio, flaslights, baton, extra pistol mags, back-up gun and then put on your belt, holster, mag pouches and full sized gun. Uh-huh, yeah, right. Those vests are a joke! You know what I do? Get out of the vehicle, draw my carry gun from my IWB holster, put it in the shooting bag, and put on my shooting gun, which is a duplicate of the carry gun. Then I put on 2 single mag pouches. I have the same clothes on that I started with, a Hawaiian shirt over a colored tee shirt, which is what I wear to work, at home, and everywhere else. If it's cold out, then I wear the jacket I came with. If you guys can have Tactical vests, then I should at least be able to wear external knee pads...
  10. JW Marriott is $285 a night for Oct. 13-17, '05. Well, George, you did say it's not anywhere near as cheap as Arizona Charlies.... Makes the SunCoast look like a bargain at $129 a night. The 5th wheel is looking better all the time ( no spa, of course )
  11. must be very, very obscure, 226 views, and nobody get's it....???
  12. Everything was awesome, except, for the registration... What was up with that? 'Are you shooting Open?' Yes 'What kind of scope?' Uh,... It's Open, there are not limits, that's why it's called Open...
  13. Rhino, Obviously you were in fear for your own life and that of your friends. Deadly force may only be used in defense of life. It can only be assumed that the furry assailant meant to kill you or cause severe bodily harm. I once had to dispatch a marauding 20lb neutra rat at about 7 yards with a .45cal lead ball from a T/C Patriot pistol that was only loaded with 7 grains of 3F black powder (for inside practice, normal load is about 28grs). The neutra was 'neutralized' with the first shot. Another time I was forced to stop a crazed hummingbird with a Remington 1100 slug gun. About a 40 yard shot, and there was only a .75" diameter hole in the tree trunk decorated with fluorescent feathers emanating 360° outward from the hole (that's when I could see really well). Then the deadliest of all, (for real) a rabid skunk was posturing to attack the family dog on my buddy's farm, just as we returned from pheasant hunting. The skunk was on it's hind feet, hopping up an down, frothing and spitting, as Blue (their Great Dane) was ready to move on it. Course all I had was 2-3/4 #4 magnums in my Remington 870 and I think my friend was using #7.5 AA's in his Beretta over/under. Well, a dozen or so, rounds later, there was nothing left but little, tiny skunk jibs all over the yard. Animal control was really pissed because you are supposed to leave the brain intact for Rabies testing.... Next to bats, skunks and squirrels have the highest incidence of rabies. There have been many other times when the use of deadly force was required, sometimes as little force as a .22 CB cap and sometimes as much force as a 50BMG…
  14. I have mine mounted all the way forward at about 1:30pm. Since the picatiney adapter didn't line up with the handguard slots, I just drilled and tapped the handguard to accept the rail adapter screws. I have never removed it after sighting in to see if it changes. The front sight remains sharp at this position and for me would be out of focus mounted rearward. So far, no problem with barricades or other positions. I did snap off the original plastic front sight during adjustment and replaced it with a regular steel front sight. If you are going to be in Palm Springs this Sunday, check it out.
  15. Yes, March 6th match is on. 8am start. Expect to be there pretty much all day because of the additional shooters tuning up for Mystery Mountain. After you exit at Bob Hope/Ramon Rd North, turn west on Varner Rd at the light, and then north again on Rio del Sol (end of the industrial buildings). Go north for about a mile where it dead ends into Vista Chino, turn west again, then north at the club sign.
  16. Bring enough ammo to shoot everything twice... And for the shotgun, I also bring #4's & #6's, 1-1/4 oz, 3-3/4 drams. For you that are CCW, this may be of help, see http://www.dps.state.az.us/ccw/recip.asp It is the opinion of the Arizona Department of Public Safety that the following twenty-nine states issue permits that meet the requirements specified under ARS 13-3112.U (list includes reciprocal states*): Alaska*, Arkansas*, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Iowa, Kentucky*, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan*, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Ohio*, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas*, Utah*, West Virginia, Wyoming Please note, the above list is for information purposes and does not constitute an endorsement by the State of Arizona of the concealed weapon programs of these states. The Department of Public Safety will attempt to update this information regularly; however it is each individual's responsibility to ensure that they are in compliance with ARS 13-3112. Residents of other states may not legally carry a concealed weapon in Arizona unless they are in possession of a permit issued by Arizona or one of the states listed under reciprocity or recognition.
  17. You guys are saying that a JP tactical iron sight can't be used at Mystery Mountain? The rules only say one optical sight allowed for tactical...
  18. Range Rumor's say at least one darkhouse, and it may be shotgun or pistol...
  19. Mayo, everyone say's that about me! But what I said is still true... However, in all fairness, do your level best at the classifier. You really want to know how you are doing against yourself.
  20. Try to tank it completely! That way you can hang out in MarksMan until you win a major match... Unlike USPSA, there is no 'rolling' classifier, nor a system to track it.
  21. The ballistic pendulum works on the assumption of a completely inelastic collision and that all the useable energy is used to displace (do work on) the pendulum. Energy from heat is ignored. Even though a soft bullet would experience an inelastic collision, more energy would be lost in deforming a soft bullet (work is done to the bullet). The same would be true for a pendulum made of soft material.
  22. Rigger, bringing your gear into (and out of California) for an organized competitive shooting event is not an issue. Lock the pistol and long guns in the cases, and keep the ammo separate. Hi capacity magazines are not illegal to bring into California, as long as you don't intend to sell them...
  23. I have shot at least 75,000 plated bullets from both HardCast and West Coast with no problems at all using a stock barrel. Load is 4.5 grains of TiteGroup at 1.165 OA. However, I have seen problems with aftermarket rifled barrels...
  24. Anyone can buy a bootleg PhotoShop software, for about $19 (US) That's about what this is worth...
