  1. nice! I really like those serrations and tri top. I did had my range officer compact tri topped and the barrel cut down to save weight carrying it. I like it in a game gun, the slide seems to cycle much faster.
  2. @lifeislarge I had no idea... would have priced way higher if I knew it would become a collectible enroute.
  3. GSG is where it's at! Had mine milled, painted, and run it suppressed every chance I get.
  4. I'm for a PPC division in a regular USPSA style match. as one of the people who has pretty much stopped shooting USPSA in favor of 3 gun, I would be more likely to come out, since I would use it as rifle practice. At our range here, no rifle calibers are allowed, and we use 22s to shoot 3 gun. it's just as much fun if not more so than rifle, as it's cheap and easy. Besides, PCCs and SBRs are gaining a lot of popularity. I'm on a waiting list for a Kel Tec in 9mm as I know a 16" shoulder fired 9mm has more punch and velocity than a 4" barrel, It's easier to make hits at distance, and it folds up so I can take it most places with me.
  5. Hey all, I'm picking up a Glock 32 from a buddy here at work, since he can't really handle a 357 sig round effectively anymore. I don't currently shoot that caliber, but he has his set up with a milled RMR in there, and a lone wolf conversion barrel to 9mm. I like this idea, as I can keep it stoked with 357 for some HD/truck gun duty but then play with it as a 9mm dot gun. I'm wondering if I can also put a 40 caliber barrel in it and burn up some of the hundreds of rounds of 40 I have left over from when I shot limited. Anything else I should consider? I already have a decent CCO 1911 for carry so not sure I'll carry this much if at all, but it's too good of a deal to pass up and I want to play with a dot again. I'm pretty sure I can't shoot it in Carry Optics unless I run 357 though, right?
  6. I don't get it. Turn your rifle into a single shot if you fire it folded. At least with a tiny mp5 style stock you can shoot it short. Keep in mind I'm looking for a cool solution to shorten my SBR, so I'm pro the idea of it. Just not sure how to make it work
  7. i think IDPA is like dry humping... it's really fun when you're just starting out, but it turns out there's a few way-more fun things you can be doing
  8. I thought 9mm kicked harder than 223 because they are blowback set ups with heavier bolts. No?
  9. I don't know that this set would be carried full time. I think it would be special occasions and to celebrate our new OC laws this coming year.
  10. I agree that they look better on blued steel, and these would end up on a stainless gun. Maybe I should spend the money on a really classy 1911 in blue first...
  11. he does make some amazing stuff, but this guy is using the same stock and willing to do them for about half the price. his work looks great, too!
  12. Ok so this may be stupid for this forum but here it goes. I want mammoth tooth grips for my 1911. No idea why, but it's been an itch for overs year now. I have only spent money on competition or HD guns, since I have to have a purpose with my spending. I haven't been competing, and with our first kid on the way in about 8 weeks, not sure I will be much in the future. So I like mammoth, I think it's cool, and god knows they aren't making any more of it. But it's not cheap( $350 or so) and may not hold up to a high round count gun. Good to carry and safe to shoot, I'm sure. And it's supposed to feel pretty great. I'm not a fan of ivory from a still living critter, either. So what do we say? Worth while indulgence or does it make no sense at all?
  13. I've had good luck with the psa uppers I've used in the past, and may order my 4th this weekend. I've heard the cold hammer forged are FN but the Wilson stuff is new to me. One other thing to think about if you want to build it from scratch yourself is you need more than $100 in tools. I've tried the kitchen table builds and the vice mounts, blocks, and wrench really help
  14. palmetto state armory always does it big for AR uppers and parts. not top shelf but I've used their stuff for a couple of builds for friends, and we're always happy with the quality. Might use this weekend to finish the half lower I have in the safe.
  15. I saw a picture in another post where the bottom of a full size 2011 grip was trimmed to fit a 120mm mag. That's the route I would choose. My ROC is a 9mm in fact. It is a shame STI discontinued the VIP now that the CCP division of IDPA has the perfect place for it. I've seen a few .40 VIPs for sale but the 9mm versions seem to have dried up. I really like my ROC, it has been a great carry piece but I love the feel of my 2011 grip and the added capacity is appealing as well. I suppose a Tactical 4.0 DS would fit the bill but cost is a factor and I would have to shoot it in ESP. Not a deal breaker though. it seems like cutting down a plastic grip would be easy enough, but I bet you could find one on the forum from an old VIP. might be a pain in the ass, I think you have to relocate the MSH pin and possibly do up a custom MSH, depending how short you want to go. I really liked the 2011 for carry idea. I picked up a 4" tactical in 45 that had the dust cover milled back a little. it was still a brick to carry, and I ended up never wearing it. Probably could have done better about a holster and belt though. 14 rounds of 45 is about a pound just in the mag alone. go the 2011 route and let me know how it goes! I have some old 2011 parts (STI triggers and stuff) I would send you just to subscribe to this photo thread
  16. anything can work with anything if you have the time/money/skills. I think as long as you get the right frame for the ramp of the ROC barrel and the right dust cover length, you should be good. If you already have all the other parts, buy the frame and go for it. I'd be curious if you go with a shorter grip for 120mm mags (VIP) or regular 126. And is your ROC 9 or 45? Because that seems like a lot of work to get 2 extra rounds (45) but would double your capacity with a 9mm. Also, I really want to see this happen, just since now I want one
  17. Trace can you put up some pics? I have an Amazon gift card I'm told I have to spend on something fun, and can't buy most gun parts or ammo there, but could grab one of these stocks. Looking to up my 8.5" 300blk game
  18. first up is my 22 submission to single stack. Fun steel gun, range gun, and suppressor host so had my buddy at Scalpel Arms in DFW do a retro camo pattern with modern colors. I like it! Laser grips just because. The second I had done by Gary at Gans guns, to make a CCO sized competition gun, that I could actually carry. 4" barrel cut down with a reverse crown, tri topped, good sights, nice but not too light trigger, green laser grips. I think it would be PERFECT for that new IDPA division, but I don't shoot that sport at the moment. Perfect to carry for me.
  19. thanks for the pointers. Makes me glad I live in Texas. we're actually going with legal open carry, and arming more and more people every day. so much less hassle, too.
  20. Chuck, Thanks for the info. With that AR, won't he have to get a non-threaded barrel and one of those weird stocks too?
  21. Hey all, my buddy is moving to California for work (Dentist with the air force) and we're trying to figure out what of his shooting stuff he's allowed to bring in, and what he's not. Also trying to determine if it's worth it to change his AR into a CA legal version or just have him buy one when he gets there. I've been reading up on Calguns and some other places for him, but figured you guys would know the ins and outs much better than internet commandos. I'm in Texas and not leaving for the foreseeable future. I would be happy to hold on to some of his stuff or at least help him sell whatever he can't take. He has 1) Stag Model 3. not on the appendix list, but has flash hider, pistol grip, threaded barrel, collapsable stock 2) S&W M&P 22. looks like above, but it's a 22. is that legal? 3) Remington 870. Holds 6 rounds 4) Springfield TRP. no threaded barrel and has 7 and 10 round mags. that's good, right? 5) Ruger LCP. I know he won't get CC over there so might not be worth keeping around 6) random S&W 40. One of those older ones, not sure on make or mag capacity He wants: In the future he wants an M&P and Glock. Can he still buy that over there or is it easier to bring one in? Thanks for the help!
  22. Any more info on pdw style stocks? I have an Amazon gift card burning a hole in my pocket, and was thinking a short stock like this might be perfect to round out the HD SBR
  23. thanks, I'll check that one out. Already focusing a lot on the live below your means thing... It's why I want a new 2011 but pushing the money into the market instead
  24. Nice! Was mine the inspiration for it? But now I'm wishing I had those carry cuts done
