  1. hmm, looks like fun. why have they not done a tiny 9mm? seems like more people would buy that than a damn cannon
  2. 40 only makes sense if you are going to also shoot USPSA limited with the same gear. When I shoot USPSA anymore I do it with my 3 gun set up, and pretend it's the pistol part of a stage, so I go for 2 hits really fast. I don't win, but I also don't care. I used to shoot 4 gun and uspsa with a 6" 40, and ran light lead loads. never had an issue with steel, but around me I never came up to a non-shotgun spinner. If people were really super scared of them, they would be running 45s or 10mms, or 357, but I would guess for every 100+ rounds fired you take 1 at a spinner. doesn't seem worth it in lost capacity and added cost of a 40. now you COULD build up a limited 40 M&P and get a conversion barrel. then bring 2 sets of mags to each match, and make your decision based on the targets they have set up that day. If you're into that kind of thing.
  3. another thing to consider is how serious about 3 guns are you? because that sport will have multiple abandons, and it is a bit quicker to throw a striker fired gun down than rack and clear a 2011, especially if you're worried about the safety. also not sure if you care, but 3 gun is way more demanding on gear. going prone with your pistol holstered, running into stuff, wapping it with your buttstock of another gun if you're not paying attention, abandoning it on the clock. 3 gun will beat up the pistol. Personally, I don't care because I see guns (even at 2k) as tools, plus I think worn guns look better than safe queens. But I have a lot less hesitation throwing an M&P in a bucket full of God knows what compared to the full custom 6" 2011 I used to.
  4. long range is a different animal. an m&p can shoot the same targets a 2011 can since the distance are all pretty close. I'm not against the nicer gear. I'm just saying it's not as much about the gear as it Is the shooter. I consistantly beat a guy running a beautiful open limcat when I shoot My aging single stack. granted, I have almost a 40 year age advantage, but his is not a magic laser blaster, despite having more money in mags than I do in a les Baer. shoot and train UNTILL it's the gun holding you back. then upgrade
  5. i go through the same thought process almost every few weeks. then I am politely reminded by a fellow good but not world class shooter, that I suck. I don't, but until I'm in the top 10% of shooters, and losing by fractions of a second, it's not worth it to upgrade. the difference between a set up M&P and a set up custom 2011 is close to $2k, which is my whole shooting budget for a while. I have a ton of other things that would make a much better difference in my shooting, in this case 3 gun. I could lose weight, sprint faster, work on dry fire, reload more, practice drills, get better at memorizing stages, work on trigger control, etc etc etc. It's fun to spend the money and I will own a 2011 in 9mm, but not because it will make me better. because I want it. Still paying on the same list of things as you, but we closed on the house this october and the wedding is March, so until those are taken care of, not the most important thing in the world.
  6. nice, I still run one of these to good effect. hog out the loading port and it's great to reload
  7. hey all, figure I would check here rather than some of the other forums. wondering if anyone has picked up a Springfield RO compact? I'm looking for a smaller and lighter 1911 to carry, and this on paper seems like it might be a good choice. I like the CCO frame but the next cheapest option seems to be a DW at like 1300. so does anyone have any experience with them? worth the money or not? any reason to spend 2x the price on a similar dw? thanks!
  8. I read up on the mag, and it looks like a decent idea for being in harms way. but wouldn't putting a new mag in and closing the bolt pretty much garantee a double feed?
  9. where are you seeing DW for less than the little STIs? those single stacks seem to be about a grand and DW 1300-1500 depending on what day of the week I look. it's only when you get to STI double stacks that they jump in price
  10. i've been thinking about one of these CCO sizes for CCW myself. I tried a SA lightweight operator, but the full size grips dig into my full size ass. I really love DW stuff and had a valor, but I can't justify the price. 1300 is almost double what the new RO compact seems to be going for. I'm going to check into it more and be following these threads for sure.
  11. having shot a 21, I couldn't get a damn grip on it myself. I'm currently debating similar myself. I sold all my Glocks to fund a house purchase recently, and need to pick one up for the GSSF even in may. Wondering if I should get a 41 or a 19, since I don't currently have any. Would be mostly for one GSSF competition and then locked in the glove box
  12. put a comp on it and you will be ready to shoot open, whether you want to or not! i recommend a thread protector. I shoot a GSG22 in some steel matches, but run a protector when I can't shoot it with the suppressor. I would hate to foul up my threading, not notice, and then mess up the threading in the can because of it. that would be much more expensive than a protector in the long run. you could also get a stock style barrel for pretty cheap if you don't want to burn up the barrel you'll eventually suppress or run as an open gun.
  13. shouldn't be, as long as you don't put a comp on it when the can is off. Just get a thread protector and you should be gtg.
  14. I think he means just porting the slide, not the barrel. That's slide-lightening. As far as real benefits, it lightens the amount of reciprocating mass, and it makes you look like you know what you're doing. As far as real value, its up in the air. A lot of people tell you it will recoil differently, but having shot a number of lightened and not slides makes me think I can't really tell when the buzzer goes off. It looks cool, and I know that counts for a lot.
  15. why not buy the full rail and have the rail milled back? I picked up a 4" a while ago that had it done when I picked it up. Made holster selection much easier, too. I love the full rail. Sold my full rail TRP ( ) to pay for the house, but that weight up front made the recoil disappear. milling it back might be a good option. I like the marauder but it's way too much money for a coat of duracoat over an eagle with a rail...
  16. Ok, so I'm the idiot. I've been shooting some sport for almost the last decade, and I'm getting tired of piles of different crap for different games. I'm also really over taking allen wrenches to matches to make sure my stuff stays in the right place, so I'm thinking I want to make the jump to a real, changeable 3 gun belt system. Currently I have a DAA double velcro belt, DAA speed mag holders, and a variety of thread on or Tec-lock holsters and shotshell carriers and the like. I'm wondering what is it I will actually need to order (or put on my christmas list) to get a functioning, set up safari land system. My thought is I need the inner and outer belt. then I get all confused on whether I need ELS 1 kits, or the QLS things. Then do I need to order other stuff or just enough of those for all the things I eventually want to attach? Thanks for the help!
  17. FJ Cruiser. Like a Jeep's more civilized cousin. you can get one that has all the fixings, 4x4, power everything, etc, and decked out with sweet tires and some road armor. Then put the $20k left over back in your bank. Makes me happy to drive it and fits enough for road trips or 3 gun matches. Or an Audi. We got the Mrs. a little A4 convertible. Girly color, but on a nice day with the top and pedal down, it's a blast! we went used and certified and still came in under 10k for it.
  18. Hey all, we're finally getting set up in the new-to-us house, but we'd like to get some wireless security cameras for around the property. I think we could get away with 4 or so, and I'd like it to record locally or to the cloud. Prefer locally, since they seem to be hackable. Anyway, I've tried reading up on some of the systems but the terminology and differences are mind blowing! I'm wondering if anyone could suggest a decent system, under probably $300 or so, that can be used for really basic stuff like I'm trying to do. Thanks!
  19. I'm just thinking that it must be nice to have 2 or 3 fully built up 3gun rifles to use on different stages. I have one (18" JP barrel) but could not afford to build a second one up in shorter or longer variance. I'm top middle of the pack, and I think losing 20 pounds of ass weight would make more difference than 6 ounces of barrel weight.
  20. you doin a little SBR for the house? me too! picked up an 8.5" but I don't have a can, so running a short Samson rail till then. they say it doesn't come with a barrel nut since it uses the regular barrel nut
  21. keep looking. we found a long term job for me and moved my fiancé here before we had one lined up for her. Ended up taking 3 months to find the right fit for her (first place was shady so she left after a week) but we found her a great job where she's making 40% more than she did in PA for the same thing. She also got 3 job offers in the same day.
  22. I had an M&P pro set up just like that, and it was a ton of fun! I didn't make major, but didn't care. The Mrs liked it, too, since she could shoot without worrying about much. Sold it this year with everything though... Not sure I'll build another right now, I found myself having trouble with iron sights after that.
  23. i think the best thing is your brain. Without it, everything else is useless. with global markets the way they are, I don't see total pandemonium lasting too long on the global scale. we just bought a house, so I'll be to start stocking some stuff, collecting rain water, and storing some ammo. We're going to garden, but don't have a ton of room. However, we both like to camp, know how little you actually need to not die, and we're both pretty smart. I'm also a Chiropractor, so I should be able to help people that get all beat up in the wilderness and trade that for whatever is needed. we'll see how it goes. I used to really be excited by the zombie invasion. But I'm not sure I'd be interested in living in a world like that for too long.
  24. Texas! we made the move 2 years ago. the only thing I really lost from PA was open carry, but I can CC here almost everywhere. Not a lot of places have the 30.06 or 51% sign, so anything else you can ignore. Plus, it's warm all the time, I can shoot 2 matches a week without driving more than 4 minutes, I make way more money than I did in PA, and it's great! we love it, food is amazing, people are nice, and the sense of community is palpable. BTW it's 82* here today
  25. it hits hard at close distances. all you need is the barrel to change an Ar. all the powder burns up quick so you can run it really short with much less percussion than a shorty 223. I am building an 8.5" with a Samson FF tube. no can but it will be a potent HD blaster
