  1. But if the scope glass smashes I can still use it as a ghost sight. Plus if it's really that hard core of a situation, I can roll the rifle and sight down the rail. I can hit a pizza box at 25 yards like this fast, and walk in rounds as I do it. Really doubt the pizza box will be standing still with a barrage of 223 rounds zipping around anyway
  2. M&P pistol. range kit, so a few mags and an OWB holster.
  3. this. I have a Tr24 on my 3 gun rifle, because there are no batteries to worry about, it glows in the dark for another 15 years, it auto adjusts brightness if I want, and I can instantly switch between red dot like magnification (1x) and zoom in to see at distance. it's rugged, I've competed with it for years, thrown it, submerged it, shot it in the rain, shot it in the dark, shot it urban prone, never stopped. Mine has the triangle reticle and I've learned it's drops and to dial it in, so I can be quickly accurate at 5 feet or 500 yards. Anything that runs like that and runs 100% at a match will be what I grab for a match with a severe prize table. But I'll run it in open with no mag restrictions, and a couple of Surefire mags filled with slightly different ammo
  4. Hey all, I have a chance to pick up a Colt CRP 18" barreled upper pretty cheap (or trade an M&P for it) and I'm wondering if it's any good? It is the one without the samson rail (the brand I prefer) but I really like the barrel fluting, it has little dashes though it. It comes with a comp and adjustable gas. I already have a jp barreled gun I built I love, so this won't replace it. But it may be built into my wife's range blaster or a general scoped AR for myself or the kiddo. Just wondering if this is something I can't pass up. I can't seem to find who makes the barrel, but I was reading some good things about it.
  5. i wouldn't personally. even my shooting buddies don't know everything I own. I have 2 safes, a real one bolted in and hard to get with some of the good stuff, and a hidden one that's also bolted in with some more of the good stuff and impossible to find randomly. I have cameras on the outside, alarm, dog, and crazy armed homeowner (me!). but why let anyone even think there's something worth taking? I hear too many instances of guys being robbed after someone comes in. if it's something easy like cleaning carpets, rent one of the steamers from a grocery store. otherwise why give people any ideas? I hate thinking about how much money I have tied up in guns, and I'm new at this.
  6. I've got a buddy here at Scalpel Arms in Dallas that does amazing ceracoat. That shows wear but it's cheap and easy to get redone, and you have infinity color options
  7. Not cost effective at all. I tried to do the same thing myself (a few years ago, before the RO came out). It was more money to get the new sights than selling mine and getting one already set up for it. RO or the Ro operator are great starter guns for builds. You don't need much to get started, run it stick to see what you want to change. Pm me if you sell it, I haven't owned a GI 1911 in ages.
  8. hey all, I'm looking for a good, basic non-shooting splash page that I can go to when I start looking at crap on the internet. No, not here, I'm trying to cut down on buying gear. But it used to be Yahoo, because my email was there. but now all the stories are just links to other crap, and I'm tired of clicking 8 things to read an article or check my stocks. I currently hate CNN for the same reasons. I don't want anything overly political or ignorant, so NY times and Fox are both out. what do you all suggest?
  9. not yet... smaller gun budget than usual this year, so I'm trying to decide between the ROOP and an STI 2011 tactical. I like the higher capacity, but $1500 is quite a premium to spend for that :/
  10. check with the ATF directly. You have to file in advance before you leave the state with your can, so make sure you do that, too. is it still good enough to shoot without the can? Seems like too much hassle.
  11. our town has a "must be spring powered" bb gun requirement, so I picked up a red ryder. fun practice, mostly silent. I might have accidentally hit a bird and it dropped instantly, so they are powerful enough. it just pisses off the squirrels I wanted to get rid of originally. A suppressed sub sonic, primer only 22 wasn't too loud, but it was clearly a gun. I have neighbors too close to aim at something on top of the fence. the red ryder BB drops enough that i can't reach a neighbor if I try.
  12. i ran my 6" 40 for a while, but run a 5" 9mm now. i miss the longer sight radius only on super tight shots, and down here there are fewer of those. 5" is easier for holster selection.
  13. we already do shoot updated cowboy guns... we're 100 years in the future, revolvers have evolved into auto loaders, since they hold more and are easier to reload. Lever guns became the first multi-shot rifle. we replaced the tube mags with stick mags, we replaced black powder powders with smokeless. shotguns are pretty much the same as they were, but less cool looking. I think you should just wear the silly outfits (not that NASCAR shirts are much better) of a cowboy but run an open gun.
  14. i have an 8.5" 300 upper and have been reading up for the same thing. I'm leaning towards an Osprey 45 since it will work well with 300 subs (ONLY!) 9mm, and 45. but I also want just one can to work on everything. I don't like suppressed 223, it's still pretty loud. I also don't shoot 308 but I do shoot 45s. so that's my thought process.
  15. Mine would be an 8" SBR in 300BO ballistics of a 30-30 with the accuracy and rate of fire of an AR. Good light on it, too, because the woods are dark. Maybe as a pistol instead, to make travel easier. The wilderness here has more pigs and snakes than bears. Currently have that set up, but would love it with a suppressor. That way we can play with it in the woods without bothering anyone!
  16. Yup! My 3 gun pistol (m&p) is my 3gun pistol, just add a light and fill with 23 rounds of hornady HP and it's good to go. Same with my 3 gun rifle. A bit long for the house but outside its the fastest rifle I can shoot between 1 and 400 yards. Why wouldn't I use it for any and all purposes. I actually had my EDC range officer compact tri topped and had the barrel cut down. Now it runs more like a competition gun, and it's even lighter than it was.
  17. No doubt Brother, there isn't a Glock on the planet that compares to an Infinity. But this thing only costs $600 bucks and it doesn't make me want to puke if it gets a scratch or a ding on it!! Plastic guns look better the more they are used! scratch, gouges, tons of holster wear all look good on them
  18. Sorry Trace, but this isn't as sexy as some of the work guns you've posted in the past. But given what you do, I don't care what you shoot as long as it runs 100% and you shoot it well! Yet another reason for me to never piss off Texas LE.
  19. my son is going on 7 weeks old. He's not been shooting yet (mostly screaming and pooping) but I plan on buying him his first gun soon. I have taught a bunch of people how to shoot, not children, but I prefer to go over the rules a ton. then, suppressed 22 rifle with only one round in it. Then that same rifle with a full mag. then no suppressor on it... then suppressed 22 pistol, then unsuppressed, then regular 9mm. I used to really laugh at the videos online of some yahoo giving his wife a desert eagle, but that really turns people off to it. and it makes for a fear of guns. If you help ease people into it, progress up as they improve, then they get to safely and happily play with the good toys. I plan on doing the same with my kiddo. I'll teach safety starting as early as possible (maybe 3 or younger) nerf guns or something after that once they show muzzle control consistently a BB gun then to the range for that progression. No idea the ages this will all happen, depends on how he does with everything.
  20. just register it as a post dealer sample! then point it at the target in the A zone, one trigger pull, 2 Alpha! I had a similar issue show up in dry fire when I put a 2011 back together (luckily caught before live fire) when I was much newer at shooting. I had put the sear spring in wrong, so the hammer wasn't catching the half cock notch. re-installed and was good to go.
  21. I'm not saying it isn't justified, just sucks for people like me that don't have piles of money to throw at gear. and well said. I'm currently shopping for a 2011, but I won't compete again for a few years at best, so I clearly don't need it. still want it though. damn internet.
  22. it's a cool set up, but "costa-tax" seems to add $600 or so to the price of the product. look at all the other gear he's hawked before.
  23. Eric, I think you need to buy one and do all the work you're talking about. I'm still wanting one of these, and set up like you're talking about it would be a big, grown up version of my range officer compact.
  24. I'm here to tell you thats not true. OP, you can build out an 80% 2011 with STI parts for around $1300, if you want to do the work yourself. I'm not set up here in the garage to do 80% builds at the moment. otherwise I would do a couple of ARs and 1911s like that. But one thing I'm finding is I don't have much time to shoot, or time to spend in the garage making a racket and firing up the tools. yeah, I really think this is what I'm doing. Trying to justify the cost. i don't know why I want one so bad, but I have wanted a railed 1911 style for a while. Might have to just say screw it and get the new range officer operator. 1/3rd the price and has the rail, so for HD it will work just fine. I don't know.... one problem with this whole baby thing is I'm stuck at home and screwing around on the internet too much. he's asleep now, but I know if I try and do anything he will wake up and scream. It's easy to get lost in gun porn on this and similar forums.
  25. Trace, I thought it was going to get a bunch easier since we don't need LEO sign off?
