Did you ask him how a gun like the 320 got approved with, I think, zero sales?

    Shadow 2 Legal Date

so, okay, the Shadow, which is for sale in the USA and has been for awhile now, isn't approved, but guns that aren't available in the US get approved??? I'm so confused.
  4. exactly what I meant in my short reply above. Luckily with the Shadow 2 you don't need to worry about it.
  5. Fix the mag catch spring so that you can't over press the mag catch. This is a known and common problem.
  6. sorry, edited the reply about mag blocks, address is http://www.magazineblocks.com. look under pistols and CZ 75. No they are not legal to restrict mags in Canada unless glued in place.
  7. I had issues with the +10s and the follower angling funny, went back to factory springs in my MecGar mags. I also had the problem over in Europe of the slide auto forwarding and not pickning up a round when I loaded to 15 (IPSC not USPSA), easy solution, install the 15/19 mag blocks from http://www.magazineblocks.com and no more problems. also prevents me from overloading a mag by accident and getting bumped to Open.

    Mag break for CZ SP01

stainless is nicer, doesn't get beat up as bad
  9. Yeah I had a box of ammo that I knew had a double charge in it somewhere, I labeled it in big letters and everything, but in a rush one night I took it to the range and BOOM. New extractor, extractor pin and spring needed. Gun was fine other than that. Since a lot of the gas ejects out of the cut in the frame where the slidestop sits I'm not surprised it broke a couple hundred rounds later. Handy thing is I now know which is my practice slidestop and which is my match one lol. And yes, I'm a dumbass for grabbing that box off the bench, and an even dumber one for loading from it. I have no idea how I missed it that night.
  10. I broke my slidestop this weekend down in Jamaica, but not in a way I expected. The lever sheared off at the step. I can only assume this is a result of the boom I had with a box of ammo I'd specifically marked as "Do not use" and used because I'm an idiot. The pin was fine, just the lever broke off, so no slide locking back or anything. Luckily I noticed it before I shot the next stage.

    Shadow 2 Legal Date

shot Limited this past weekend in Jamaica, took second to Chris Tilley (78%, but I'm happy with that given I could barely walk). Shot lots of A's with the Shadow 2, that helped.
  12. 133PF ammo, 11.5lb hammer spring, and 8lb recoil spring. shoots wonderfully.
  13. pic installed in a shadow 2 would be nice
  14. So, because of this thread I went and grabbed my guns from the car (shhh don't tell Canada). Tested the trigger on my practice gun and after much futzing about with my new Wheeler digital trigger pull gauge, I determined that DA was 5lb 8oz, or thereabouts. It was a bit gritty as the gun was filthy. I had highs of 5lb 15oz and lows of 5lb 6oz. But I was finally able to consistently get 5lb 12oz, SA was easier to read and was 2lb 9oz. Then I ripped her apart, with full intentions of polishing the inside of the frame where the trigger bar goes, the hammer area and trigger area. I even pulled out the trigger bar spring, which I hate doing (took a photo first to get the screw alignment right though). But on inspection, those areas of the frame are incredibly smooth, more than I'd remembered really. And the nitride is pretty damn hard (tested the hammer area and my stones would barely mark it). So, instead, I focused on the sear cage, hammer, disco and strut. The hammer received the bulk of the work and is now a glassy smooth finish on the sides. The sear cage got a good workout too, but not like the hammer. I hit the bearing surface on it as detailed in many other threads, being very very careful to not wreck the angles. Then the strut, it probably got the biggest improvement but it was quicker to do. I rounded the corners on it and smoothed it all out. Finally I did the disco, again just barely polishing the surface that engages the trigger bar. Cleaned those bits and put it back together well oiled (and still a filthy frame). Now my DA is fricking smooooooooooth, it's scary smooth, zero stacking, and oh, it's like a porn star's (hmmm, insert your genitalia term of choice here), smooth smooth smooth. But, the proof is in the pudding, out came the gauge, and it was much easier to get a reading now, 5lb 4oz consistently pull after pull after pull, SA is 2lbs 5oz. This is with a CGW 11.5lb hammer spring. Match gun is sitting at 5lb 15oz right now, I'll get to it later. It's also filthy because I am a bad gun owner, SA is 3lbs 1.4oz
  15. oh damn I never even thought about 15 round rules! What are the requirements for those states? permanent mod or are things like a magblock allowed?
  16. that's them, 17 or 19 round. The chrome ones (which aren't the same as the nickel I don't think) are my favorite
  17. usually another loaded mag lol, or a hammer. Occasionally a concrete wall or, and I'm not kidding, a rock. Field expedient I think it's called. I find with the CZs you can make em pretty tight and they will work just fine. I check my mags now and then and see if I can stand a round up between the lips, if I can, I just push the round down, or the follower if I empty it, and bash em until I can't stand the round up. I don't worry too much about being precise.
  18. CZ has stopped shipping those crap mags now and are hopefully sending the 10 round version, where it's allowed, later this year. They, as far as I understand from my talks at IWA, are not making or ordering anymore of those crap style ones.
  19. there are at least two types of MecGar mags for the CZ, the newer design, which has been around for a few years, has the rounded gap at the top of the spine, between the feedlips, instead of the square cut style of the older design. As well it's a thicker metal than those old mags, so the lips take a lot longer to spread. I've cracked dozens of lips on the old style mags, but have yet to crack a set on these new ones. I have had to smack them back into tolerance once they spread, but find they last a helluva long time after I do so. And that's only because 99% of my practice is on an indoor range and the mags are hitting concrete all the time, which is hard on them. My match mags still look like new as they are usually only dropped on grass or dirt
  20. the 10 round mags that we use up here now and that I recommend are exactly the same as the 17/19 round mags, but have dimples in the side so that they can only hold 10. You can even use the +2 baseplate with no increase in capacity. What I like about those mags is they are simply a better design and are better built than any of the other options. It's the same mag as what free places get with the 2s (the 19 round setup you see in the pics). The mags are also a lot more durable due to the design improvements that they've made.
  21. they started supplying them with the premium build guns, why I don't know, but they are certainly worth it in my opinion. With my old Shadows the slidestops lasted longer and I prefer how the recoil feels in the guns, no more metal banging on metal. talking about shockbuffs above, didn't realize there was a whole other page of discussion from the question I was asked. I use an 8lb recoil and have never had a feeding problem, ever. Prior to getting those from Robin I was using 11lb and also never had a feeding problem, ever, over 6 Shadows and about 600,000 rounds + that was related to the gun itself, other than documented below. If the gun failed to feed it was from a bad case (prior to me case gauging every round with the 100 round gauge), or, a mag failing (old shitty 10 round mags we get up here). When I read about people getting feeding issues I just don't get it. My weekly classes for the last 10 years have had a huge number of Shadows at them, Friday and Saturday nights average 20 people a night, firing 200-400 rounds, every single week. I can count the number of times I've seen guns fail to feed (all brands of guns, other than XDs, they fail all the time) on one two hands. And almost every time they fail, it's an ammo issue, bulged case, really high primer etc. So, when I see people talking about it here, I really wonder, what the hell have they done to their gun that has made it so unreliable? With the 11lb recoil, I maybe changed them out at 50,000 rounds or more. I've had one recoil spring break, and that caused it to jam, but that's it.
  22. I've been running the CZ shockbuffs for about 6 years maybe longer, I typically get around 4500 rounds out of one. It is easy to tell when they are starting to fail, I inspect mine before a match and replace if they are tearing. But in my practice gun I let them go until they mess with the timing. It takes a lot of mangling before that happens.
  23. For those of those shoot IPSC (outside of the USA) the current factory sights give a very nice sight picture at 50m with the angled sides almost lining up perfectly with the shape of the IPSC target. Makes for a simple way to line up
  24. the current Shadow 2s have the recessed type FO rod. Regardless the sights are exactly the same as on a Shadow, other than perhaps style or height. Cuts are all the same.
