  1. Put the Dremel in the closet and set a bowling ball on it. I do throat polishing ONLY by hand using 400 and 600 paper and oil. I use the smooth end of a drill to wrap a strip of paper around, tape it in place then sand in and out motion. Do it in front of the TV, it takes a while but you won't screw it up.
  2. Gunsmith's golden rule: whenever two parts hit, you grind on whichever one is cheaper. You can easily file the top edge of locking notch in the mag shell to get it to ride a shade lower.
  3. I have a 9mm Trojan and have no such problem. I don't use Tripp mags, I think mine are mecgar. What is rubbing on what?
  4. The main advantage of the FLGR is you can drill (or buy one that has) a small take down hole so you can remove the rod, spring and reverse bushing as a captive assembly and never fight with the spring again. I don't know if there are any performance benefits of FLGR, just makes cleaning much easier.
  5. The mods here don't like any posts related to gun control issues or anything that has the whiff of political leaning.
  6. Hope it's not an interference type engine so there are no bent valves.
  7. If they jumped on it 6 yrs ago when this started, they would have paid for the capital expense ten fold. No, because panic demand is not real demand. It will eventually drop off and all the extra production capacity will be unused and the money they invested will be wasted. They make WAYYYY more money starving the market and keeping prices high. Just ask Big Oil.....
  8. So here is your problem. Ever since Obama came into office there has been a major gun grab by the public trying to stock up in advance of the impending next assault weapons ban. That is it exactly. And each time there is a public shooting, the frenzy explodes to fever pitch panic and the ammo is all gone again because everybody is sure the guns are going to be confiscated.
  9. Most of it is self inflicted. panic buying is why the ammo supplies evaporated, and gougers buying ammo to scalp on Craig's list. The stampede started because of the idiots who think that the current admin can collect all the guns and ammo, so gun sales spiked and people wanted to buy five cases of ammo for every new gun. The panic got worse when ammo supplies dried up and never really abated. There has been a shortage for at least a decade, because the upsurge in global wars uses ammo.... and it is a finite resource. We have reduced inflow of imported supplies like Wolf, Tulah, Sellier + bellott and we have reduced output of US makers because they also have to fill government contracts (which they will not admit they have).
  10. That's what shears off the riased portion of primer leading to the wiped look.
  11. Check the firing pin hole in the breech face and verify that it is "radiused" out gradually, not a sharp edged hole drilled through.
  12. First thing I thought of seeing that is extractor needs tuning and maybe some relief at the bottom. Also maybe the feed ramp top needs rounding over a bit and maybe the top inside of the barrel throat needs polishing. I had a Para that did that a lot, was able to fix it. Any gunsmith should be able to tune it up pretty easily. Another thing is to shave the feed lips at the front of the mag just a touch so it lets the round go a little more smoothly.
  13. I have had a Trojan 9mm for about 20 years, probably put 30 - 40k rounds through. Very sweet gun. I hear the best magazine solution is to load the 9mm rounds a shade long and use the .38 super ten round mags.
  14. Sounds like normal "break in" of the sear and hammer faces. The pull weight should stabilize after breaking in a while.
  15. You do realize you jinxed by saying that......
  16. I understand it: http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=383692 "The 'single shot exemption' or 'SSE' is an exception to California's Roster of Handguns. Guns in the SSE configuration may be sold in California, regardless of whether they are on the Roster. They must actually be safely functional, and must be capable of firing only one shot before reloading.See also BWiese Feb 8 2014 Once delivered to the buyer, the original parts may be re-installed and original functionality will be restored." What it consists of is having a gunsmith build a complete top end for the gun's receiver which conforms to the SSE exemption description which is: "B) The provisions of this chapter shall not apply to a single-shot pistol with a barrel length of not less than six inches and that has an overall length of at least 10 1/2 inches when the handle, frame or receiver, and barrel are assembled" So, you pay for the gun to be gunsmith fitted with a longer barrel and slide if needed and converted into single fire only operation. Then once you pay for all that, you can reinstall the original top end and have the gun you actually wanted.
  17. Actually many non-list guns are very available: 1) Here is a link to an explanation of Single Shot Exemption on Calguns--> http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=383692 2) Here is a Dealer who does SSE for any 1911---> http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=842325 Best regards, Keith I meant the chances of finding the gun YOU WANT here legally are slim..... BTW: the SSE (single shot exemption) reads as follows: you want your 1911 with a six inch barrel? How many 1911's are 10 1/2 inches in total length? "B) The provisions of this chapter shall not apply to a single-shot pistol with a barrel length of not less than six inches and that has an overall length of at least 10 1/2 inches when the handle, frame or receiver, and barrel are assembled" "An FFL can then take an off roster semi-automatic handgun (it can be done with revolvers too), and by using aftermarket parts (longer barrel and magazine well block), convert it to a single shot with the required barrel and OAL length."
  18. Yeah, I had one cut off a few years back. was about the size of a dime. When the Kaiser doc was done cutting, the incision was about 6 inches long. Still have the scar.
  19. You can buy a non-list gun on a private party transfer assuming the gun was already LEGALLY here in the state. It is not legal for any FFL to import a non list gun except for sale to LE. The PPT between cali residents is a face to face transfer between seller and buyer of a gun already here. No FFL can import a non list gun and then sell it to a private party. You can buy from a private party but only if the gun is already here. Obviously, the chances of finding the non list gun here is remote to non existent.
  20. It seems that Glock has stepped up and launched a court challenge against cali's new laws requiring mag safety and micro stamping. A ton of money is on the line for them, they supply about 99% of the LE guns here in Cali. The outcome may determine what guns are available in the future. The majority of gun makers will not be able to absorb the cost of a complete redesign just for a Cali model of their guns. http://onlygunsandmoney.blogspot.com/2013/11/glock-steps-up-in-challenge-to.html Glock Steps Up In Challenge To California's Handgun Roster Glock, Inc. filed a amicus brief last Friday the case challenging California's handgun roster. The case, Pena et al v. Lindley, was originally filed in 2009 in US District Court for the Eastern District of California. Glock's amicus brief was filed in support of the plaintiffs' motion for summary judgment. They start their argument by attacking the requirements for a magazine disconnect and for microstamping technology. The brief states that a magazine disconnect is a disadvantage in that a chambered round cannot be fired without a magazine in place. They attack microstamping as "novel and essentially theoretical" technology which does nothing to enhance the firearm's safety which is the purported purpose of the handgun roster.
  21. True, but both S&W and Ruger openly admitted to not renewing their status at SHOT show this year. They are throwing down the gauntlet and calling cali's bluff. Their strategy is that if enough gun makers refuse to accept the cost of complete redesigns (and just leave), cali's LE won't be able to get hand guns. I hope they back down and remove the new restrictions, but I doubt it.
  22. cali has a law going into effect soon where all semi autos will be required to have a "magazine safety" disconnect and (I believe) the idiotic firing pin "stamp" where it stamps the serial number on the primer. Point is, nearly all semi autos will automatically be dropped from approved status unless and until they are redesigned to meet the new requirements. All the quals expire after a year, but very few will be able to requal.
  23. IMHO, you will be shipping it to your friend since it is his home and he will receive it. I shipped a gun to my brother out of state and it REQUIRED using FFL to send and FFL to receive. I believe it's a federal law now. Be careful.
