  1. Me too..... I was pretty sure the guy was spouting crap, but just wanted to be sure.
  2. Same here. My STI's show the "polishing" of the slide stop cross pin and along the faces of the lower lugs. Toplugs are sharp after 20 years of use. My "factory" Para barrel stands up on the link and is about .040" between the lower lugs and slide stop pin in lockup. Hardly close enough to yell howdy...... I suspect most mass made guns are up on the link because fitting it correctly takes a gunsmith plus time and they have neither.
  3. Maybe a dumb question? I don't own a Colt "government" model so I don't know the differences between it and a standard 1911. Somebody told me with great assurance that the government model uses a different slide stop than the standard 1911, and the cross pin diameter of the government slide stop is .175" not the .200" used on every 1911 slide stop I have ever seen on earth. Just curious: are there 1911's using slide stops with a cross pin whose diameter is 0.175"? thanks
  4. I like SIGs OK (I have a 226), not happy with the Para 1640 I own. It's total junk, build quality is crap. My admittedly biased opinion: buy a Trojan and you get the most affordable semi custom 1911 from a company that builds some of the best. Buy an overpriced Para and you get a dressed up mass made gun from a company who schlocks out guns by the truckload.
  5. Love my Trojan .40 which happens to be a 6" slide.
  6. I'm not sure it affects cleaning at all. The super hot gas released on the first couple of shots would vaporize the lube and scorch it to the chamber wall so after that, it's pretty much business as usual.
  7. 92FS service guns routinely exceed 100,000 rounds using an aluminum frame and firing hot +p NATO ammo. I probably put 30k through mine.
  8. They look real nice but I am not going to drop $150 for some grips I am going to have to hack up to fit with the scope mount. I am planning to put a right side grip scope mount and I will have to cut the right side of the grips off. I need it to be some kind of stiff material so it will hold place if mounted by the left side screws and maybe some double sided tape. Somebody here used to sell molded nylon grips for single stack 1911's that make it the same size as double stack. I recall the cost maybe $25.
  9. You're really lucky it's stainless. You can buff it up as fine as you want. For a brushed look, 600 or 800 wet/dry paper and oil works well. Make sure to keep the lines straight. Scotchbrite pads work too. I mirror finished the flats on the slide on my stainless Para when it was new.
  10. Yes. Sometimes I do a "pretend" shot by just tapping the trigger to clear my brain then go.
  11. I thought the correct .45 recoil spring for a full size 1911 was 15# for standard load, but that's just my memory. I prefer FLGRs for a variety of reasons, some people think the stubby design is OK. The other part which was junk on my new para 1640 was the extractor. To prevent frame battering there are dual spring rate systems that stop the slide from hitting the frame. I like those.
  12. The one I got before was just molded plastic and works pretty well. I think it was like $25. I was able to custom fit it pretty easily. I wish I could get another one. I am thinking of adding a "grip attach" optics mount on the gun and want to get a new wide grip adapter I can cut down so it matches up to the optics mount which will be one the right side grip area.
  13. I used to envy the people who had numbness. When mine would flare up, I had hot shooting pains that felt like they raidiated out both middle fingers. The really fun ones was when it felt like somebody was standing on my fingers (crushing pain).
  14. Might be an auto-immune component. I have severe arthritis and also get carpal-tunnel and tendonitis frequently. Sometimes my body just decides to attack and tear the hell out of a joint. Sometimes even a minor amount of strain sets it off.
  15. LISTEN CAREFULLY TO OUR SELECTIONS BECAUSE OUR MENU HAS CHANGED.... No it hasn't. Or: DID YOU KNOW THAT FOR YOUR CONVENIENCE YOU CAN GO TO KISSMIAS.COM AND USE OUR WEBSITE? Actually, that's for THEIR convenience. The last thing they want is to have to talk to you. And how about changing it to one where somebody answers the phone?
  16. Thanks. Impressive, a little pricier than the one I got last time.
  17. A while back I bought a plastic molded grip adapter to go on my 1911 single stack to make the grip the size of a double stack. Anybody know where those can be bought?
  18. Based on history: I would want at least about 4" POI movement ability by adjusting the sight up and down for 35 yard range.
  19. Not a big fan of hands free phones in cars. Data shows they are very dangerous. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2013/06/130612092949.htm
  20. Most of the sound wave propogates forward off the muzzle. Side absorbing helps but a lot would get out too.
  21. Chris Rock did a hilarious routine about the neighbors he used to have who would rob your house while you were gone and then come by the next day with: "Wow.... looks like you got robbed!"
  22. from the immortal movie Cool hand Luke: "You ain't got no name until Dragline gives you one." Dragline is just getting behind.....
  23. If you had seen some of the responses I have seen in the debates on some on internet forums, you would know why no sane person would want his real identity advertised on any forum.
  24. I was wondering if the Aimtech APM-7 could be kluged on. If the grip and screw centers matched a standard 5" 1911?
