  1. I used 124/5s out of my open gun. 3 port comp with 3 hybrid ports. 3n38 was THE powder. all others came up short. I believe 3n38 runs best with holes in the barrel. n105 was cool but i didnt like the full case and didnt like how it only came in 1 pound containers. n350 could be an option for ya too. i tried 115s out of my gun and they were ok but accuracy was better with the zero .356 125 gr bullets and 3n38 and i liked the dot movement better out of the 125s. up that PF to 174ish and see how that works for ya.
  2. Anyone thinking about trying 572 in 9 major with 115s?
  3. i used to have a 38 super comp. 3 hole hybrid with 3 port comp. loved VV powders. 115 gr with 105 was awesome but hated dealing with the full case. 124 gr with 3n38 and get em going up to 175ish power factor and it was magical.i really liked that load cause the case wasnt too full, and i just loved it when the gun is loud as hell and the dot doesnt move. thats what i got with my hybrid barrel and 3n38. they were made for each other. your already in open, and if you wanna win you cant cheap out so just suck it up and get a 4lb jug or two from powder valley when they have it in stock. or try to shoot a gun with these powders first before you buy to get an idea. good luck. .

ordered 200 count .45 lwsc just to try at the beginning of the month and got them a week later, now I ordered 500 more cause they worked so good. sent a check by mail, and emailed first for availablility. he just gave me a price so it sounds like hes got bullets ready to ship.
  5. ah...allright well I spose I may just need some basepads
  6. sounds like the Wilson etm's are longer and don't really need a basepad, which would be nice
  7. so what mags will solve this? it seems I just need a little less spring tension when the chambers closed. should I cut some coils, buy some tripps or buy some ETM's?
  8. Frick haha anyone want to buy a couple 47d's??
  9. Yea there is à magwell and the basepads are long enough.
  10. Ok sweet. I just don't remember it being that bad with my old kimber
  11. so I just got a new Trojan, a CRP from dawson with the magwell and all that. ive only shot it a couple times through the chrono and I noticed something. if I fill the wilsons up to 8 rounds and try to put them in the pistol, they will not fit easy. I have to slam them ridiculously hard to get them to fit. and when I release the mag when its full, the mag release is tough to push so its tight. so has anyone else experienced this? are the mag springs just super tight cause they are brand new and full? I don't think I can make good reloads with the way these mags are now. any advice would be great thanks
  12. I used 3n38 with 115s once. I have a 3 port hybrid, 3 port comp sti. big blast not much muzzle rise but i didnt like it as much as my 125 gr combo at 10.0 gr. of powder. that combo is just plain smooth. i think i was up to 10.5 gr with the 115, it was a pain to load as the case was very full. so if you like that big blast, with little dot movement, you may be in business!
  13. dont matter. deep down, they love it.

    Open Major 9

can you get your hands on VhitaVuori powder, or Nobel Vectan powder? if so then try some of their slower powders. vectan sp-2 or Vhita n350 , 3n37 etc. what brands of powder can you get?
  15. along with n350 and hybrids, I found that 3n38 is the real deal. ive shot it all in my hybrid, and 3n38 with 124/125's is awesome. 115's, it gets a lil wild. somethin to consider with hybrids. i dunno how it behaves with drilled holes.

what used to help me when id get nervous during stages, when i first started shooting, is make a gameplan. right when you do your walk through, start planning everything. where/how you start, what point you go to first, what targets you take from there, where you need to move second, what targets second, where to reload ( always on the move if you can help it). talk with your squad mates, put some ideas out there. once you settle on a good plan. replay it in your head over and over, while your taping, and resetting the stage. keep thinking about what your gonna do. it will be easier to think about it during the stage. it will get better with practice, and experience.
  17. i shoot .356's out of my .355 barrel. accuracy rules
  18. ive loaded a mess of zeros so far and havent had that problem. im shooting 38sc. lee sizing die and a slight bell on the mouth and its working great.
  19. ive been shooting montana gold JHP and zero JHP with great accuracy and reliability out of my open gun. i tried MG CMJ one time and i was not impressed. i guess its JHP for life outta my gun.
  20. the slower the powder, the more powder you need in a case, which means more gas when burned, and that gas directs upward when it hits the baffles of the comp. the force of the gas going up, keeps the muzzle down. now, most factory ammo doesnt use that slow of powder, or not enough powder. most open shooters will load ammo with a slower burning powder, which needs a larger volume of powder to make major. the more volume of powder, the more gas produced during the shot, which should equal less muzzle rise.
  21. FYI just tried 4756 for the first time in SC. some dot rise but very good tracking. straight up and down. still cant beat 3n38 though.
  22. Oh snap. Well sweet deal then. Thats alot of powder hahaha
  23. i went right to a custom build. grundhauser gun works here in MN. i love my gun. i dont regret it. BUT, read up. do some research on what people like, and what gets good reviews. people are loving freedom gun works, and akai right now from what ive been seeing. theres others as well. also, get your hands on some open guns from locals you shoot with. put some rounds through and see how you like it. do you want 9 major or super? maybe a hybrid or barrel ports? you want a shorty or a full size? a used gun from a popular gunsmith may be the right road. youll just have to get your hands dirty and dig in and find out what you like. i knew exacctly what i wanted when going into open so it was an easy decision. good luck. open rules
  24. id go for it man, if its in good enough shape at a good enough price. I jumped into open last year and its been awesome. ive never looked back. youll have lots of fun.
