  1. My XDm525 finally made it in this evening and was able to get a few rounds downrange, very nice. Spent the rest of the evening installing the Springer trigger kit, grip safety, ext mag release, solid guide rod, Dawson .100 FO front sight and custom cut grip tape. Now it's ready for some real testing, can't wait for Saturday
  2. I replaced the springs once and knocked the dirt out while I was there. For the most part shake the big stuff out, load and shoot.
  3. It does seem odd, the M&P Pro9/40 have a large FO sight as well. Durability is the only reason I can think of, but still......... I'm not complaining though, just happy to have a gun that is 90% there out of the box
  4. I have yet to see one these myself but ordered one anyway and just found out today that I should have it sometime next week Already have a few Springer Precision essentials waiting for it but, this new gun has a high bar to meet as I am very happy with my existing pair of 5" XD9's.
  5. Looks like SA upped the ante for the production class! Kinda makes the g34 and pro9 look kinda weak, can't wait to get my hands on a couple of these.
  6. I listened to guntalk with Rob Leatham as he described the new XDm 525 9mm as a XDm with a 5.25 barrel, a cutout in the slide like a G34, with an adjustable rear sight and fiber optic front sight. In Rob's words "SA gave him everything he asked for in a competition pistol" Can't wait to see one in person. I think I will have to have one or two of these
  7. Sorry, I meant to say I use a 12lb spring in the Kimber as I use a 16lb spring in my XD9 Tac I don't know who picks 9mm recoil springs but most I've seen are way over sprung from the factory Seriously though, tuning of the extractor made my poor running gun into a dream.
  8. My Kimber target II 9mm with a ramped barrel and 16lb Wolf recoil spring seems to like the regular Precision Delta 147's (not flat nosed)and Xtreme plated 147's the best and seems to tolerate MG CMJ 147's 90% of the time. I don't know that I would call them "round nose" pointed nose is a better description. At first mine had failure to extract issues that I tried all kinds of mags to no avail although the Trip 10 rd mags ran the best and Wilson combat the worst. Desperation caused me to check the extractor tension and it was half of what my SA XD's were (it's all I had to compare to) a simple tweek to increase tension made all the difference.
  9. For minor 40 S&W I'm kinda partial to: Xtreme 165gr plated bullet 4.0 gr WST 1.125 OAL 139-140 PF I needed a 16lb recoil spring in my XD 40 tactical but it really shoots nice.
  10. So far I love my STI Sentry in 40S&W,purchased it from Dawson Precision at Christmas as a "Dave Dawson Special" so I'm sure it had a little extra attention before shipping. At this point using Wilson and Tripp mags it has eaten everything I have thrown at it although I load long with the Wilson mags they still do a good job with shorter stuff. Compared to my Kimbers the trigger is awesome and the overall feel is great, yeah I would do it all over again.
  11. I'm using 3.8gr of WST with 180gr Mg @ 1.125 oal and it shoots pretty clean and accurate but have to use a lighter recoil spring. My XD only takes a $5.00 spring and a minute to change for major loads. My favorite and most accurate minor load is 165gr MG with 4.0gr of WST @ 1.125, very clean and crisp feeling. Tried lead once, the smoke was more than I cared for....
  12. Use a 16lb Wolf 1911 type recoil spring in mine plus a Springer trigger kit although I would guess at 4.5-5 pounds as it feels pretty close to my Kimber.
  13. Right now I'm using 3.9gr of WST with MG 180 @ 1.125 and really like the way it shoots out of my XD40 with a 16lb spring. I also have some 180gr Zero hp's that appear to be just like some Hornady XTP 180 that worked really well with a 3.8gr WST at 1.135. Both the Zero and the Horndy are about .30 longer than MG's so take that into consideration when loading. Hoping to get some chrono numbers this week, but "by the book" they should be north of 800 fs for a pf of 144+.
  14. I have been through a few reloading press's and now have a Dillion square deal and a XL650 which are great machines but the one I still use ALOT is my Lee turret press, there is no telling how many 1000's of rounds I've made with this press and the reason I still use it is to develop loads and make small runs of ammo. It changes calibers in minutes, parts and dies are easy and cheap to get. You can pickup a new one for $100 or much less used, when there is more money in the budget for shooting goodies the nicer press's can be added for volume loading. Oh yes, the turret press does a decent job on 223 as well
  15. Jim, from my understanding a 40 S&W is a shortend 10mm, so I would think the 40 S&W would go too deep in a 10mm barrel to function as these calibers headspace on the case.
  16. I have had tru-glo's and they were very nice sights however I have since switched over to Dawson sights on my XD's. The .100 fiber front on all with a fixed black .125 rear on my XD9 tac and adjustable rears on my 40 & 45 XD tac's. I was very hesitant at first to go to a thinner front sight but after the first one I was hooked, my eyes are not what they used to be and the thin blazing red front sight is very fast for me to pick up and it "feels" like it is more precise with the thinner front blade. On the downside I did lose my nightsight/lowlight capibilites.
  17. I'm sending my "beltfeed" mag holder back due to pulling the #4 mag out when pulling the #3 mag but................ Comptac is making a custom change to space the the #3 & 4 mag buckets for me though, very nice guys/girls to work with over there.
  18. Have had the opportunity to test both PRP and Springer kits on multiple XD tacticals First off both kits are very worthy and a huge improvement over the stock trigger provided you do your part on the install.... The PRP match kit I thought was a little more challenging to install due to the over travel stop but doable and if you mess up and go too far with fitting it's only a $17.00 mistake on the Springer it is a $60.00 bar. To my somewhat educated trigger finger the main difference between the two is the PRP kit seems to have a shorter sear travel but a sharp release and the Springer has a slightly longer and heavier but smoother sear travel and release. In the end I prefer the Springer kit for ease of fitting and feel.
