  1. I had my STI put together by Omega Customs up here in Ontario. People ask me is that an STI..... I tell them that it left the factory as an STI Eagle...but there's allmost no STI parts left in the gun. Again as to the start of the tread....Shoot your new gun and get to know your smith.
  2. Problem being up here in Canada.....we rarely get a chance to see let alone try a huge swath of guns and gear. It took me quite a while to put my STI gun together with my smith. I'll attach a pic. It took me the better part of 2 months to put together my SVI Gun Builder for the gun that I just dropped the hammer on. As for the original purpose and quandry of this thread......my recomendation is get the new STI and get to know your smith
  3. Easy does it......if you can pull the trigger out and adjust the mag width as to run cleanly throught the trigger bow. Also make sure that your mag release is working and that the mag isn't sticking in the grip itself.
  4. Yup. Watch your follower tilt and your 9mm may need to be loaded a tad longer
  5. Yep, seperate gun...too much of a hassle switching top ends.
  6. Hi Guy's. To answer the question of how the gun sets up for a table top snatch start.......its muzzle is off the table at around 15 degrees. The grip is off the table as well ......so its almost floating above the surface.....its leagal inspite of the gripping of my fellow ipsc players
  7. Got one now on my .40 STI and having one put on my SVI gun. I found that it helps somewhat with the recoil...but more to the point of maintaining proper indexing throughout the firing cycle......and it adds a competitive cool factor to my gun(s) I'll attach a pic of my current gun.......
  8. Its the DAA ajustable thumb rest. It's IPSC box rule compliant.....so I can stay in " Standard Division".
  9. If you check with STI you'll see that Front Serrations are an option that can be deleted on your orderd gun. Check with STI for further Q & A.
  10. Great report. Lots of things to think about.
  11. NICE!! Have a great winter season!!
  12. I thnk that you've got a self licking lollipop....a problem that'll solve its' self. STI mags will have a "dull" almost sintered finnish. SVI mags will have a "bright" almost chrome finnish. As for which vintage is for what.....just figure which mags work for you and which can be adjusted to run or kept as spare. If you're going to be in limited ( 10 rds)...that solves that issue. If you're in Interational ( IPSC) competition...then the "box rule" applies accordingly. If your in a place that has unlimited capacity ( 3 Gun or USPSA)...again go accordingly. Hey, its hard enought to get these suckers to work 100%, so find the ones that will work for the games you wish to play. Have a great winter season
  13. Nice and neat!! I see that you had the bump on the grip safety checkered...nice touch. Was the grip safety pinned from the factory? Ok.......Now I realy can't wait for mine
  14. Nicely Done!! Sounds like you've got the gun you ( and I want )...just in time for Christmas!! How did you find the Trigger pull and reset? When you clean your gun...are ther any scratches on the feed ramp on the AET barrel? Thought locking back ( I prefer that my gun's don't) is a preferance...did all the mags feed and go in and out of the grip smoothly? Are you able to pick up the sights easily and did the front sights' fiber optic look decent ( not overly bright)? I was informed by Brandon at SVI that aprox 1K in rounds is typical for breaking in their guns. Once again...Congratz....also post some pics soon.
  15. If you wanted a thumb rest.....get a thumb rest. I'm not in favor of using a mechanical part of the gun as a rest....just say'n
  16. Nice....I'm going to pm you asap :-)
  17. Good to hear that someone has gotten their gun!! I ordered mine last month or so....Ill get mine hopefully next November. I got a non sight tracker with all the other goodies......with the AET barrel ;-) Maybe you can post a picture when Frank ships it to you. I also have a few questions......pm me.
  18. If the frame ( and slide) look good.......build away!!
  19. Got one on my SVI build. I'm really looking forward to this
  20. Can you run with a stronger recoil spring and bump your load up?? I mean, your power factoring at the minimum for major in IPSC......Just say'n.
  21. RIIID speaks the truth. Get 2 of the same guns with the same loads.....you"ll get 2 different chrono readings.

    Wait time.

Don't confuse individual per unit time as total production time. I'm sure that a compitent smith can slap together a "stock" 1911 gun in about 2-3 days given all the parts.......but it's somthing that will go bang and the BATF will consider it a functioning gun....Just say'n. Now if you want that same gun to be "custom built" and have all the goodies that YOU want to be installed on that gun.....well, then its going to take the better part of ( depending on what components and any milling to be ordered up) the better part of one month.....just to do it. Now many smiths I've dealt with will ( if it's a small shop) will have at best 2-3 guns on the go at once.......so as stated above get your order in now and consult with your builder to avoid falling into the backlog/waiting time.
