  1. Well, I've wanted one for a while.....and soon I can start down that fun time of breaking in the gun, mags and developing a load. New beginings are always fun. This one isn't mine........but its almost identical.....too each his own
  2. That seems to be the general point of this thread. Try before you buy....if you can get someone to part with their gun for an afternoon. And as stated above....if you like it....you like it.
  3. You can order up the best of the best permium parts....but in the end the gun will be a hot rod. If you want a Bentley...you have to buy a Bentley.....just say'n. Lets consider what that hot rod 2011 type gun shopping list ( excluding gunsmithing) will cost in rough numbers. A premium barrel roughly $400 A decent slide ( before any milling) $500 A Premium Frame ( if its not a slide/frame match kit) $ 500 A Grip ( if you're using the best....then an SVI grip) $800 So just in getting the bare bones of this gun your at $2200......and you haven't done anything yet . Its quite easy to see that though the price of a "factory" SVI is high.....its well worth it.
  4. This was a tight fit.......took my smith a bit of work.
  5. Im still waiting ....with great anticipation for customs to clear and my importer to register and ship my SVI to me. I just orderd the Mobius Grip Tape insert as an accessory I orderd the Mobius cut out on my grip. Starting the NASA countdown clock. Btw, I orderd mine back in Sept of 2012
  6. Ok, then which is "better" Open guns have evolved from the days of Soda Can sized Aim/Pro Points optics to C-Mores...to the current style ( or evolution) of micro sights( RMR) mounted onto the slide....I love the look....BUT which works better.... I get it you have to have two identical guns...but as of yet, I've not seen any Youtube vids to swhow that this is the "next step"....

  8. I made the decision to sell off 4 of my handguns and a couple of shotguns as to get my SVI. Now, if i could have done it without selling off my toys..... yea, I'd like to keep them. However, I've made the decision that I'm going to concentrate on getting out and shooting more...so hence the decision to get another gun. Given the IPSC rules regarding gun substitution I decided to get the last gun I may buy. So as the tale of the "pearl of great price"..............
  9. Wow, I've see pictures of Caspian slided Glocks...maybe that can be done in a day...but not a complete gun. 30-50 hrs sounds about right...given the breaks on parts and client preferances....just say'n
  10. Hmmm....all I said is that somethings may give sticker shock...but people understand why it costs what it does. I'm happy to continue with my STI..... But I've always wanted and SVI ......now I've gone without a lot of other toys for a few years in order to afford it. Its my 50th birthday present to me. It was cheaper than the 2013 Vette that my neighbor got his kid...( 73K)...but to each his own.
  11. That's the truth......no body questions the sticker price on a Porsche or Ferrari
  12. SV Cop.......I can hardly wait to put that to the test.....My STI will be my back up gun to my new SVI gun
  13. I'm expecting mine to come up by next week. 5" IPSC standard gun with my choice of goodies and 6 mags.........just a tad over $6000.00
  14. Still waiting for my SVI...tic tok tic tok 1 Gun and 6 mags ( don't forget I'm in Canada) $6K+
  15. See the thread on SVI parts in STI guns. The rear of SVI trigger bow needs to be "adjusted" as to work with the STI set up. "buy once, cry once" is a good motto. Here's my STI Eagle 5.0.... with SVI goodies and other fun stuff
  16. Sounds like a plan. I run the SVI Triglide package with the additional titanium main spring cap and extended firing pin. Titanium hammers...they're nice and light...but don't offer that much of a shortened lock time as to take advantage....IMHO Heres my STI Eagle 5.0
  17. Youtube here I come... Though a head to head vid would be informative
  18. OK, I'm sorry I chose my words poorly Not Cheap as in $...but I understand the mag issue re: capacity restrictions....I'm up in Canada. Considering that I've never seen an open gun ( in IPSC) that wasn't a 1911...and under 3K A RMR sight on this side of the border is going for 1K.....so would it be worth having a sight on the gun that was worth more than the pistol....??? And again...any vids to show any kind of advantage over a " standard open gun"..... Now, I can think of a few advantages ..reliability for one ( not as fussy with ammo), yes, the base cost of both the gun and the mags, the momentum of swinging a " shorter" gun through the ark of a bank of targets (having a ported barrel will help). So, I'm not down on the concept....I just want to see what the results are. If this new concept for an open gun is giving good results...hey I may go and get one done
  19. Are there any vids of people using a CORE or Glock Open gun vs. a " traditional" open 1911 action ipsc gun??? Sounds to me like people are still trying to get into an open gun ...forgive me ..." on the cheap"... just say'n.
  20. Well, as long as you like the effect...its all good
  21. Here's my 5.0 Eagle ( or what's left of it...he he he) with the Enos SVI insert
