  1. @JZip, when running lead through your Barsto, do you clean the lead out of it like you would Molly bullets? And is cleaning lead out of your barsto, is that a "chore?"
  2. +1 on starting low on the powder charge, try making a dummy round(-the gun powder) and tightin or loosen the seating die to your desired depth. You might have to pull your bullet a few times and re do it till you get it to where you want it set at.. I also make 10 rounds at a certain powder charge and save my targets as records to the ammo I have made.. If you go under the minimum load there is a good chance your weapon won't cycle properly and or your bullet can be lodged into your barrel and not know it and if you fire the weapon you can do serious damage to your weapon and maybe hurt yourself! Best thing to do is get and read your manuals and have more then 3 buy what ever you can get your hands on so you can use em as reference for your ammo you are making! Good luck!
  3. I get just as much moly residue running a Barsto barrel in my BHP as my stock G17. Actually, more. Is it a pain to clean the Molly out of your Barsto?
  4. I guess this would be a good time to say; LMAO!
  5. Uhhhhhh ! Does NW Indiana count?! Welcome to the forums!
  6. Welcome to the forums, and good luck! Nothing wrong with a new weapon, cause you can never have too many! Lol...
  7. BS you don't know what your getting into! This is addictive! I got like. Almost 100 sets of 10 different loads to test this weekend and all my wife says is I don't ever come out of THE LAB! We are in the midst on buying a house and we got stuff packed except my LAB! Lol... What ever you decide to get and load on you will love it! See you in RELOADERS REHAB! Lol ...
  8. Okay thanks for the link, Are you loading for your .40 cal now? I like that Gr-X. Too bad I can't run it through my Dillon!
  9. Does that GR-X include the ram and the bottle/bottle adapter? I got my eyes on a model 27 ported barrel Storm too!
  10. Again load your Ammo through your dillon dies and once you come across this problem, invest in some new tools U Die or GR-X die, but I don't know if you know if you pick up the GR-X(think it runs $79.95 cabelas online or Midwayusa.com) and you would need a single stage ptress (lee single stage $50.00) what ever you decide, it might cost you a little or it might cost you a lot, but the point is its gonna cost you! Oh how much does it cost you for your barrel? Your looking at over $200.00 dollas!!!!! Yikes!! If I ever have this problem I would go with the Single Stage Press and the GR-X die and bottle holder!
  11. My opinion is your OAL/COL is a bit long, it should measure at 1.125.and your taper crimp should be atleast at .420 from my Hornady manual; Tightgroup starting load is 2.1 , max is 4.8 and for clays univ starting load is 3.8 and max is 5.3! Good luck! I know that is what the hornady manual says, it's one of the books I referenced 'after' I loaded the rounds. (mistake #1). The second mistake was not chamber checking after a few rounds. The first few I loaded all seemed good on the calipers and the powder checks throughout the loading seemed good. The third mistake was loading 50 rounds. I'm thinking I'll just pull them all and start over. I don't know what is causing the binding since OAL doesn't seem to be OAL/COL seems to vary for rounds that both do and don't chamber. I'll just have to recheck all my dies and start fresh. I've got plenty of other ammo to shoot in the mean time. Can you remove the decapping pin in dillon pistol dies so I can resize them but reuse the primers? I do think its your crimp or your resizing! Ya you can remove it by taking off your "C" clip and using a pair of pliers! But I recommend you just deprime the brass with the live primers.. Just be careful and make sure you got safety glasses on! You shouldn't have a problem depriming em! Take it slow and remember this is trial and error period for you! See what works for you and your weapon!
  12. Good luck!
  13. Even if you get a match grade barrel you would need a U Die or the GR-x die!! All factory 40 cal brass barrels don't have that support and since it is a high preSsured round the force makes it bulge by the head stamp! I posted something like this, "Dillon Dies VS U-Die!" I say just up grad your tools as needed, and save the rest of the money to buy supplies! I got no problems out of my dillon dies they work great!
  14. Correction; tapper crimp! Thanks grump!
  15. Ryan, what bullet is it, the 180gr # 40040 HP/XTP,40042B HAP,#40047 FMJ/FP ENC or is it for sure the #10808 SWC(discontinued)? Looking at my manual the 180gr swc measure is looking like it is hot! But I trust what Grumpyone is saying.. Now according to your manual the O.A.L. or the C.O.L. Is to high, bring it down to 1.125 or closer to that and your roll crimp in my opinion needs to be atleast .420 or enough to to remove the bell. Same for your copper jacketed bullets! I hope this helps! I did the same thing when I loaded my .40 cal reloads... Again invest in more manuals to use for reference! That should work! Make a dummy round don't deprime/resize it put a bell on it(dump the powder in the hopper), place your bullet in the belled case and seat your bullet till you get that proper seating depth(1.125)once you got it at the right depthpull the lever down then tightin the seating die, the go to the crimp die and pull the lever down and role crimp it! If it has not takin the crimp out it might be touching in you barrel and that little hair width of a crimp does matter! So keep lowering the crimp a notch till you got it set(.420) then tightin the die and measure with your caliper! You might have to pull it a few times!
  16. all right grumpy. grumpy one. lol, your avatar combined with your typing make me scared. Thats nothing my daughter is crying cause she is scared! i told her; "Hes just one of the dwarfs! "
