  1. A couple of us from the Houston area have signed up. Looking forward to this match, it sounds like fun.
  2. I have a Limited Pro in 9mm. Love the gun. I have shot thousands of rounds thru it. I use it in IDPA, USPSA, and 3-gun. The factory SS mag that came with it is flawless. No spacers and runs like a top. I can load 15 rounds with no problem. I try not to jam the last couple in, but it will work with them. I have since purchased the front spacer and rear spacer mags and they all run good with help from Henning. My question is, why doesn't Tanfoglio sell the factory SS mags that they include with the gun? Why are the replacment mags different? I doesn't make a lot of sense to me.If they are more expensive, make them available and most of us would pay the extra amount with no problem.
  3. I just switched from this setup, which I have shot for about 6 months to a 1x4/24 Counter Sniper scope. I have looked at several different brands and found this one to work best for me. The optical clarity is very good and the field of vision is excellent. It seems to pull in a lot of light. I have no problems acquiring the next target @ close or longer ranges. We shot out to 180 yards this weekend and it worked great. It has a single cross hair reticle and I sighted it in at 25yds and it held true to 200 yards. It is about 4 inches high at 100 yds shooting 75gr Wolf Match ammo out of a 1/7 twist DDF 16" barrel. I know this is not one of the accepted brands, but I read good reviews on Midway and so far it is well worth the money.
  4. I run an Aimpoint M3 with a Primary Arms 5x magnifier on a flip mount behind it. I find with close in shots out to 50yds without the magnifier, it works great for me. I can acquire the next target with no problem and fairly fast. With a normal 1-4x scope I have a lot of problems finding the next target. At 100 yds the dot looks like a blob and covers the target using the magnifier. That said I have not had any problems shooting within an 8" ring or shooting a flasher. At 200 yds it still works well with metal or flashers. It would not work with a standard IPSC type target where you would have to put it within the center ring to neutralize. To stay in tactical you can only have 1 optic or an optic and a magnifier. If you are going to shoot much further than 200yds, you need to go to a scope. I definetly recommend this set for short stages and the occasional 100-200 yard shots.
  5. I bought this one from Sportsman Guide. $79.99. Works great, holds everything for a 3-gun match. They are hard to find. I have seen several jogging cart builds. The guys around here buy them at flea markets, rummage sales, and 2nd hand stores. I took the u-shaped stock mounts off and re-drilled them and used SS bolts, lock washers, and wing nuts so I can remove them. It will fit in my trunk folded up.
  6. Welcome to the forum. Make sure you ask questions at the 3-gun. Everyone will help and answer them. I will be there. I can show you around and answer questions. I am fairly new to 3-gun and handgun competition. But be careful. It can be addictive. Most fun you can have with your clothes on. gerritm
  7. I don't reload rifle rounds so I have been messing with some different factory rounds. My DD 1/7, 16" barrel in a DPMS flat top receiver. At the gun show this weekend I saw some 75gr Wolf Gold Match and bought a couple of boxes. I got a chance Sunday to go to the range and check them out. I shoot an Aimpoint Red Dot with a 5x magnifier and not really concerned with grouping, just want to make sure I can hit an 8" plate @ 200yards. I have played with a couple of brands and bullet weights from 55, 64, and 75 grains and have not been too impressed with any of them. All were inconsistent at 200, but good @ 100yds. The red dot with he magnifier is just a large blob and covers the target, no fine or precision targeting here. The Wolf match was amazing. All shots were consistently in the center portion of the 8" plate @ 200 and right on the bullseye @ 100yds. I guess it is lucky to find a good factory load that works. My point is as a newby @ this it takes some experimentation to find something that works.
  8. Did you check with Henning Walgren, he is all things EAA and Tanfoglio. He solved all my 9mm jamming problems. http://www.tanfoglioparts.com/
  9. What twist in your barrel. I have a Daniel Defense 16" barrel and free floating forend with a 1/7 and it likes the heavier bullets, 64gr to 75gr. My old 1/9 barrel seemed to like the lighter 55gr bullets.
  10. Mine are factory mags and I regularly load 13 in them for 3-gun and have no problems. Knock on wood I have not had a FTF, yet after several thousand rounds. I probably just jinxed myself. I did have a problem when I changed gun oils, don't know if that had anything to do with it, but they started to FTF with this particular oil. I went back to my normal oil and no problems since. The oil was Birchwood Casey.
  11. I have a Limited Pro 9mm and took out all of the spacers on my mags and replaced the springs and followers with what Henning recommended and have had no problems. The funny thing is when you look at them or unload a full mag the shells look like they have nose dived in the mag, but never fail to feed correctly.
  12. if yu have a range cart can you post a pic to give a better idea of how i can configure one myslf. thanks Guy Here is the cart I use. This is a picture from the manufacturer. I use this cart, but it is set up a little different. These are hard to find. I purchased it thru Sportsman Guide for $79.99. A lot of guys pick up a used jogging stroller from Sal. Army or 2nd hand stores and build it themselves. But this will give you an idea.
  13. We are required to have yellow chamber safety flags in both our shotguns and rifles when transporting them before and between the stages. They are removed by the RO when we load and make ready and are reinstalled by the RO after unload and show clear. It is a good visual for anyone. Most of us use range carts and casing the guns is not practical.
  14. .... at the very least you'll "know" you belong there. My 1st two Nationals I shot a 77% & 78%, and I was an A in LTD. Then last year ... after making Master, I shot a 89%. Funny how it all shakes out in the end. Thanks Jaime for the words of encouragment. Yes, you are right I do shoot for the overall finish. Keen, yes that what I shot in 07'78% at nationals, remember you beat me by a hair. lol. After that match I put the limited gun away and shot open until now. Right now I am at 82% in Limited, so I agree with Flex, I could probably just shoot my way into Master. I just need to get some free time to goto some locals. I am going to do that since there is a couple of month lull, until the next major, I will make that a goal. Thanks everyone! Sean Sean, congratulations on the good shoot.
  15. I've always thought the guys you mentioned would be terribly insulted to hear it's all some devinely inspired "talent," considering they all began WORKING at their respective games at an age most of us had just learned to tie our shoes.. No insult to their work ethic, but they have and were born with physical and mental attributes to be great in their sport. I am from Chicago and watched MJ win 6 championships. I don't care who you are and how hard you train, but you can't make a 5 footer into 6'6" basketball player. Muggsy Bogues, maybe. Ain't gonna work. I also think that thru the luck of the draw they all found a mentor/coach who brought out that talent. MJ didn't really play basketball until he was older, I think high school. Many people grow into their sport and are lucky to find it. I never had the chance to shoot until much later in life. Where would I be if I had started at an early age? Who knows, but most are lucky to "find" their sport and some are lucky to be born into the right setting like Tiger Woods, who had dedicated parents. If you are a talented shooter, you must have been born with some kind of innate talents that makes you good. Natural ability. I still think it is the Indian.
  16. has not set their status

  17. Talent. I believe there are certain people that are born with it and are lucky enough to find out what they are good at and have the opportunity to excel at it. I can never be Michael Jordan or Tiger Woods or Dale Earnhardt, no matter how much money I have and how much practice I do. Can I be proficient in any sport with time, hard work, practice, and money, of course. Certain people are born with the ability to excel. Physical limitations in any sport set the parameters of success in that sport. Reactions, eyesight, hand eye coordination are paramount in any sport, but especially the shooting sports. I believe it is the Indian not the arrow.
  18. I said this in another thread, I have the Dunlop Tire belly problem. My belly Dunlopped over my belt and made a spare tire.
  19. Personally I have the "Dunlop" syndrome, My belly dun lopped over my belt.
  20. I am blind in my right eye and shoot left handed. The closer the red dot or sight is to my focal length the harder I have acquiring the next target. If I focus on the Burris up close I can't find the next target. Scopes don't work for me. I shoot an Aimpoint with a 5x magnifier on my AR and it works very well for me. I only use the magnifier past 50 yards. That is why if I start shooting open class I would like to mount it further down the receiver or on the rib. That is kind of my reasoning behind the rib or receiver mount. I have a fiber optic up front for now. Unfortunately I don't have the force with me although I do have a Miculek Comp on my AR.
  21. I am not sure that I want it back that far, but they are interesting. I use an Aimpoint on my AR and a C-More on my open gun and like that focal distance for quick shots and acquiring the next target. On the top of the receiver there is a 1/4" or so series of lines that run the length of the centerpoint from the stock to the rib. It is an aluminum receiver. Is that strong enough to drill and tap it? Using short screws that don't protrude into the chamber.
  22. I run the light piston in my SX3 with all my 3 gun loads including full velocity slugs and runs great.
  23. Any ideas on how to mount a red dot on my Winchester SX3 vent rib. There was a company, B-Square that made a cantilever style rail mount that looked perfect, but my rib is over 3/8 wide, about 1/4 inch, and it looks like they don't make that one anymore, just the one for 3/8 wide and under. We have a few local 3-guns shoots that allow a red dot in open class.
  24. I am thinking you are right. There is a rifling in the choke. I hate to change chokes, but it would makes sense the way the shots were all over the place. The diffusion does work well on the birdshot. We usally only shoot 1 or 2 slugs and the rest are birdshot.
  25. I am shooting a Winchester SX 3 with the standard 28" barrel with a Briley diffusion choke for 3-gun. The #8 birdshot hits all of the poppers and Texas Star hard with no problems. I had a 60 yard paper target shot with a slug. I had one on the paper and the 2nd flew high. I had sighted the shotgun in the day before with some Remington Managed recoil slugs @ 50 yards from a rest and was all over. I switched to Remington Accutip bonded sabot slugs. Not much better, but on the paper. I have another brand that says sabot rifled slugs should only be shot out of a rifled barrel. What should I be shooting with a smooth barrel?
