  1. I decided to have my buddy mill some vents on the top half of the solid aluminum DPMS handguard I have. I like it, but it just gets too hot. I have a shoot this weekend and I will see if this works out. I don't think I need any rails, so this should solve the heat problems.
  2. Try bending the spring upwards. I have them and some of the rounds appear to nosedive, but load fine. I have them in all of my mags and I never (knock on wood) have feed problems.
  3. That heat problem was what I was trying to get away from. We had a 30plus round stage and the solid aluminum floating one I have now got plenty hot. I don't really care for the tactical types with all of the rails and sharp edges. I didn't want to spend a couple of hundred bucks for it either.
  4. These looked kind of interesting. Anybody use one or have any feedback? Looks like they would be comfortable and cool (temp) to use.
  5. I have a Speed sec 5 for my EAA open gun. It would probably work for your hunter.
  6. Welcome, my daughter lives on Oahu. What a great place.
  7. I have an EAA Limited Pro in 9mm and the original factory mag that cam with the gun works great. No spacer in it. The 1st spares I bought had the spacer in the front. I removed all of the spacers and got new springs and followers from Henning. No problems now at all, works every time. I did order a few of the new style with the rear spacer as spares and all of them did just what you are describing. Fire the last shot and it won't lock the slide open all of the time. I have not messed with them, yet. My guess is I will take out the spacers on those and replace with the new springs and followers. The only problem with jamming I have had is when I changed oil, it didn't like the new stuff. I went back to my old oil and also use Slide Glide and it went away. I have fired 100's of rounds and all is well. The EAA gunsmith I talked to said to send in the mags and they would tune them and return them in working order. It was a couple of weeks minimum turn around and no guarantee they would work in my gun. I opted to go with Hennings advice and do it myself.
  8. I have an Ampoint M3 and have no problems seeing the dot in the bright Texas sun. Just turn it up a bit. I just switched to a C-More Click and zeroed it in and practiced this weekend and it was very sunny. No problems with it.
  9. I have the Flanigun version of the SX3 with a 3" chamber. It comes with 2 gas pistons. One for standard and heavy loads and one for light loads. I run the light light piston and it is flawless. I use the manage recoil slugs. I also have a Briley diffusion choke and extension mag tube for 10 rounds. I kept the standard 28" barrel, it is only about an inch or 2 longer than the magazine tube. It is light, handles well, is very fast and accurate. This way I can shoot skeet and trap with it, I am going to look for a shorter, possibly rifled barrel.
  10. I think that may be in my future, too. I just ordered a C-More and side mount from Henning for my EAA gold so it will be awhile before I can slide the SA parts by my wife.
  11. I took my Limited Pro apart and it definitely has the cone guide rod.
  12. Anyone have any pictures of the mounts for a secondary red dot. I have a flat top DPMS and am looking to mount an Eotech as a close range red dot and use my 1x3 scope for the longer shots. I have seen a couple of 45 degree angle mounts. I would like to keep it on the upper rail. I need it as close as possible to see it clearly. Any ideas or pictures of what works well for you?
  13. I will look again when I take it apart. Maybe I am mixing up my Gold open gun and my limited pro. I know it is on my Gold.
  14. Wasn't the Bren Ten brought out a few years ago as the latest and greatest version of any gun ever built and then flopped because of QC and operational problems? I have a couple of EAA's and have fired several thousand rounds thru them with no problems. They are not 10mm and that may be a ammo specific problem.
  15. The blunt end of the factory guide-rod is on the small side which increases the pressure on that part and it can cause an indentation in the frame of the gun that makes it difficult to remove the slide. The modified guide rod increases the surface area, thereby decreasing the pressure and prevents long term damage to the frame. The guide rod on my Limited Pro has a small cone on the end that touches the barrel link. It is not blunt.
  16. No mods except on the mags. I went with followers and springs from Henning and did some modifications to some of the mags with the spacer strips. I removed the strip and used different followers and springs. Now they all function perfect. I have been shooting it completely stock. I am a firm believer in if it ain't broke don't mess with it. What is the advantage to the conefit guide rod? I like the trigger feel and pull. The only other strange thing that happened is I changed gun oil before I started using slide glide and it caused a bunch of jams and problems. I went back to my normal oil and then started using slide glide and it stopped. Here is a link to the problem oil. http://www.birchwoodcasey.com/sport/index.html
  17. I have the same gun in 9mm and shoot IDPA and some USPSA with it along with steel plates. I have several thousand round thru it and other than getting the extra factory mags tuned and working right, have had no issues or problems. Operates perfect. Very accurate. I shoot standard 124gr factory loads. I do use Slide Glide on it and my EAA Gold open gun. Congrats on a great gun, too bad everyone will ask you if it is a CZ.
  18. Is 9mm major brass the same as standard 9mm? The reason I ask is there is a cartridge company I use called Arizona Cartridge company. The guy who runs it is very easy to work with. He will load your components or load his to your specs. I buy my 9mm 124gr minor loads and my .45 185 gr open gun ammo from him until I get my reloading going. It is always very accurate and runs well with no problems. It might be worth giving him a call. Let me know if you need his contact info.
  19. Thanks for the help. I shot my first 30 -- .45 test loads in my Ruger P90. They all fired fine except 2. We were shooting at a plate rack and they seemed to have plenty of power. I had 1 stove pipe ejection and one primer that was high and I think made it's OAL too long. It jammed feeding and took a little work to get it out of the chamber unfired. You could see the rub marks on the primer. I will have to be more careful and make sure the primers are seated all the way.I am going to shorten my OAL slightly to Lee's recommended 1.195 for the next batch and bump up the powder to 5.5gr's.
  20. I went off the Lee sheets included with the press. I just found the Hogdon site and I also have purchased a couple of manuals. These were some loads that I used to set up everything. I have 3 different .45's including an open gun to feed. All of them shoot the 230 and 185gr FMJ's with no problems and my little Kimber Ultra Carry likes the 185gr HP's the best. So I am thinking I may want a little softer shooting round for the .45 open gun. I am shooting 185's Winchester FMJ White box right now. I just need to make sure it makes the correct power factor and are reliable.
  21. I went back and checked my notes and remeasured what I have loaded and it was 5.0 of Titegroup and OAL is 1.215. Can I bump the charge up a little and press the bullet in to 1.155, Lee shows 1.195 OAL for 185gr jacketed bullets. Do you think that OAL is OK, I checked some shells with the bullet pressed but no powder for feed and ejection and they seemed to work. I have some Accurate #7 also to try. Any feedback on this powder? Lee has a load for the Hornady 185's @ 11.7grs @ 1.210 OAL.
  22. I am a new at re-loading. I was given 300 -- .45 Hornady XTP 185gr Hp bullets. I have a basic Lee 4 turret loader and am re-using brass. I used the Lee suggested load of 5grs of Titegroup to load 20 test shells with a light crimp with CCI large pistol primers. I just want to make sure I am in the ballpark. I used their suggestion for OAL and measured everything with a digital caliper. Any other suggestions. I also have some Accurate powder.
  23. Welcome, where do you shoot. A lot of us shoot at Impact Zone and PSC.
  24. Look on gunbroker. There is a dealer up in Minnesota called Hunter's Outlet that has had them in stock. I bought my EAA 9mm Limited Pro from them. I also have a gold in .45 and love it.
  25. I am lucky ( sort of ) I am right handed and my right eye was damaged (almost totally blind )when I was young so I have to shoot left eye dominant. I don't have to blink or close it or anything. I am also right handed in everything I do except shooting a long gun, where I shoot left handed. Works for me.
