  1. Getting new shooters I think is the key, and one of the things we do locally to get new shooters was fimed by Jim Scoutten and crew for the Sighting In, Shooting USA show on OLN, "USPSA New Shooters" It'll be on tomorrow, 11/1/2005 8:30 am - 9:00 am EST repeated on 11/3/2005 9:30 - 10:00 am EST Who knows who you will attract!!! We have gotten a number of people in Law enforcement, and a number of women shooters. Like it or not, TV coverage WILL also help attract people to the sport, IMHO Sorry for the shameless plug Carl
  2. We are very lucky in the Atlanta area, you can go to multiple matches every week. Take a look at http://www.georgiaipsc.com/ scroll down to "The Clubs" you'll see all the options that you will have. All of the clubs are first class and you will have a great time with any of them. Carl
  3. my 2cents on HS7 .. it worked, but was VERY dirty, and I had some inverse Temp sensitivity issues. HS6 worked better for me, but was kind of dirty too, I guess I'm lucky, I have a stockpile of SP2, so until that runs out I currently use that. (I'm running a Hardy Mongoose, with 2 popple holes in case you are wondering) I wish that True Blue did not have the pressure spike that some have noticed, it gave me the most consistant results of anything I've tried so far. 4. Might check here http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?...topic=26470&hl= as well. Carl
  5. I got to shoot one of the new models We compared it to my Viper.. MUCH lighter in weight, and it had less muzzle rise! Dot tracked better vertically as well. Very nice trigger (typical of John's work). Great addition to the arsenal for open shooters! Carl
  6. I just spoke To John Nagle, he's having some computer problems, which is why he has not been on the forum. He will check back in here as soon as he can. Carl

    New Gungasm

The Battery is a Duracell 1/3N http://www.zbattery.com/zbattery/fence.html -or- Sanyo CR-1/3N http://www.123av.com/DetailPage.asp?ProductID=CR-1-3N -or- Eveready 2L76 http://botac.com/en2l.html Take your PICK!! It is located under the cover secured by 2 allen screws, behind the glass. Welcome to the Dark Side !!! Carl
  8. One more shim idea. Use a piece of "transparent" tape, maybe 2, on top of the stationary bar. It stays in place better than paper! Trim around the openings at an angle, that seems to work removing any residual "stickyness" A few of us that use SP2 have used this with good results Carl
  9. I think the aftermath of Katrina, with the lawlessness that ensued, was one of the best examples of the need for the Second Amendment that I have ever seen. Carl
  10. Most of my family is from Luling, on the other side of the River from New Orleans. We used to visit the area often, when I was a child. As I grew older I wondered why we never went to New Orleans, for any of the "festivities". I asked my cousin, and she sad "Are you kidding me? There is no way I would ever go THERE". I guess I fully understand now. Still have not heard from her after the Hurricane though I do know they are well armed though, so I hope for the best. Carl

    Sheep

I HATE the sheep that seem to follow every rumor. I just spent 3 hours driving home from work. 20 miles . BECAUSE OF THEM! And the WORST thing I hate is, I missed the Weekly match at GPSL BECAUSE of it!!!!! Rumor was that Gas Stations in Atlanta were : 1) closing at 3 2) closing at 4 3) closing at 5 4) running out of gas and one that was not rumor, some stations charging as much as $6.00/gallon Carl

    Hurricanes

I hate that I STILL don't know about some of my Family. A large number of my cousins live in New Orleans area (Luling), Baton Rouge (heard from them), Slidell, and some other cities around the area. I just HATE not knowing Carl
  13. Yep, all numbers need to be added to the Do not call List: https://www.donotcall.gov/ Carl
  14. I have a friend that had the same problem. After waiting on Para to repair it for a month, he was told there was some kind of "import issue" for the parts (yeah sounded lke BS to him too). He finally spoke to a guy in the shop who said they do have problems with the design. When he got his gun back, it had a standard slide and a conventional extractor on it. Works fine now. This is third party info, so take it for what it is. Carl
  15. Jim and I have been on the quest for an alternative to SP2, since it is not being imported anymore, and the supply may go away at any moment. 9Major-Caspian's excellent thread gives a great deal of information, and has proven invaluable. Here's my 2cents: HS6 not bad, but a little dirty HS7 temp sensitive, inconsistent, and really dirty. True Blue seemed ok, but we had to go .5 grain more than others had, and I had concerns about the pressure spike that others noted. 3N38 Pricy, and had a huge fireball out of the Comp Stayed away from 3N37 due to Gunsmith's concerns about flame temperature. SP2 Works well, but negatives are that it tends to jam the Powder measure, and the fact that it's supply is limited. We had a recommendation to try WSF because it had a similar burn rate to HS6, which was the best alternative to SP2 that we have found so far. Jim and I are going to try WSF after the Georgia State Match, and we will post our results. We were just curious if anyone else had tried it, and might have a starting point.
  16. I have not tried AA7, but I have tried HS7, and it's pretty dirty for me on a 9mm open gun with 2 barrel ports. I believe others have the same issues with HS7 too. Carl
  17. Good advice, some of the older SV "big stick" tubes are not 170mm, so if you use them with a +2 basepad, they are still shorter than the "new style" tubes with a +1 basepad. Carl
  18. And just for some addition "points".... From Dillon's web site: http://dillonprecision.com/template/p.cfm?...28&min=1&dyn=1& They list them separatley 9mm Size/Deprime Die 14415 21.95 .38 Super Size/Deprime Die 14408 21.95 Carl
  19. I have had the same experience with HS7, Mad Scientist and I both use different OAL, different guns, and we tried different Chronos. 9.4gr acheieved 170 PF initially, but when temperature rose, I had to go to 9.7gr. My OAL is 1.155, used with a two port Hybrid Commander length slide. Probably is Voodoo, but I wanted to give another voice on this! Carl Mongrue
  20. Chp5, Why not try 9mm major? We have a lot of experienced folks in our area! JL Hardy, Roger, Jim, Myself and others can talk to you about it, and Madscientist can certainly give you info on 9mm open Glocks. Will you be at Cherokee this weekend? I'll be there, and you can try a my, "shorty" in 9mm major. It is a little different in configuration than Singlestack's .. I think he has three hybrid holes, mine has two , but a comparison might be helpful to you. The reason I ask, is that I thought I remembered you loading 9mm for Production, and thought you'd have the "tools" Carl Mongrue
  21. Also make sure that the extractor tension is not too much. I had a similar problem with my 9mm Open gun, with an Aftec extractor. I had to shorten the front spring by compressing it with pliers for a few seconds (Aftec instructions detail this procedure). If you are using a standard extractor, you will have to take out some of the "bend" do this carefully, because it's easy to go too far. Carl
  22. My Experience has been much the same as others here. I started with STI mags with the spacer, ran fine till the Spacer chipped on the top edge. I changed to SV tubes, and against recommendations, tried Arredondo 38 Super followers without spacers. NO problems since. But as we like to strive for perfection, I've gone to the Grams kits, now and they are even better... as you load and unload the mags, you can tell the difference. As far as the nose-diving issue, they do. Without the spacer, if you slowly close the slide, they do nosedive a little. I think the key here, however is finding the OAL that works in your gun. I use 1.155, and you can probably tell, so do a lot of others. Everyone has had a little different experience, I take it ALL in and determine what works for me!
  23. A well stocked Hardware store ought to have them. I bought a couple from one of the local Ace hardware stores. They were 1/4", so I did have to grind them a little, dress the threads, etc.
  24. I have one of JL Hardy's Open Guns (commander length slide), and have used 3N38. It works well. With the shorter barrel, I do get some pretty significant flash from the compensator and hybrid ports. I've gotten to the point where I never notice it, but others around me usually comment on the flame thrower 3N38 meters well and the load seems very consistent. I am looking at other powders due to its cost though. Carl
  25. RC1, Just out of curiosity, where did you get them for that price? I've gotten a BUNCH free, but, well you know, it'll run out before you know it! Carl
