  1. Erik, How long did it take for Brian to build it?
  2. I have a guy who is trying to make a Safariland 012 work with his triggerguard hooked Safari Arms singlestack 1911. Is this possible? I have a pic of the gun, but would need someone to host it for me to post it. The hook is big, not as big as Chip McCormick's hooks used to be, but bigger than those of the current manufacture Safari Arms 1911's. Whatcha think?
  3. I've been talking with Caspian, Gary specifically. But I think there's a thread around here somewhere dealing with this. Also, there's a big effort underway by Caspian and a freelancer to develop 40 mags.
  4. I just switched from a Safariland belt to a CR, using 771's and an 012. I LOVE how tight the pouches fit the belt, but the fit between the 012 and the belt is completed unacceptable for match use. The 012's belt loop is approx 1 3/4" wide while the belt is 1 1/2" wide; that 1/4" of slop is significant. I'm gonna try the velcro thing mentioned above, but so far I'm not a happy camper.
  5. 19 rounders will be available from Caspian soon, for I believe $85/each! Caspian also plans on making 170mm mags, which they plan to have available later this year.
  6. The Dawson aluminum buffs come is a 0.100" variety???
  7. Is this a call to our resident engineer's? Rhino, Bill, Erik, Eric? Hello? Don't look at me Dave, I've forgotten that portion of undergrad studies
  8. I'm using singlestack mags with a Caspian hi-cap conversion kit to allow the use of singlestack mags. It seems as though my issue is the ledge Caspian hi-caps have that prohibits overinsertion of mags; that ledge is hitting my Marvel singlestack mags even though 38 Super, 40 & 45 singlestack mags insert just fine. I intend to take a grinder to a Marvel singlestack mag in an effort to rectify the problem
  9. Philip, Are they on Caspian hi-caps or singestacks? Just curious because I'm trying to get a Caspian hi-cap to work with a Unit 1 and I'm not having good luck....
  10. I've been shooting the past 2 or so weeks with a Dawson aluminum buff in my open gun and I do not notice any difference between it and the Red Buff I usually use, except that it takes a gun than ran 100% all season and makes it a little finicky. I think this is due to the thickness of the Dawson aluminum buff (0.150" I think).
  11. Eric, Try a search at the rimfire forums: http://rimfirecentral.com/forums/ Good luck!
  12. Thread drift: Major with 38 Special? Impressive!
  13. Sweet pictures. Very interesting gun. It's a 9mm I think, right? It still blows me away that Rob doesn't undercut his frontstap, that mod makes the gun feel 100% better to me.
  14. Rich, Will they be available for sale, or is this a project for yourself? If they are available for sale can I get on a waitlist?
  15. Attila, Of the frames you mentioned I have only used the Caspian, but it gets my vote, I am very happy with it. I shoot it in open, but plan on building a Limited Caspian later this year once the mags are available. And if you're worried about the weight of the all steel frame don't forget that Caspian makes titanium hi-cap frames. Good luck!
  16. Bob, Where's that Master long range gun?
  17. #1: but with the caveat that sometimes you will need to push yourself to recreate your boundaries. Eventually you will reach a point where the shooting just happens, as if it's a film; that's when you start shooting REAL fast....
  18. I've always stayed in the Fairfield Inn, but was VERY dissatisfied with my most recent visit. The nonsmoking room smelled of smoke, and in spite of complaining the situation was never rectified. And the walls are paper thin. On the plus side it is nice having breakfast there at the hotel, and I enjoy the abundance of restaurants in Quincy. I heard that all the big dogs stay in Hannibal because it's closer to the range, I'm considering Hannibal for July...... What are your experiences?
  19. The idea of metric targets in preparation for the Nats sounds good, BUT I have never experienced the classic target so it gets my vote!
  20. Thanks for all the replies. BigDave: Cool, I hadn't notived that EGW listed the McLearn style comp in their catalog, I kept looking on the website only. Thanks! P.S. Any luck finding those check weights? Bedell: Will give your comps a look, especially given Paul's recommendation. I notice that Shooters Connection and Brownell's do not list a cone model, only a bull barrel threaded model. Are cone models available? Can I send the gun to you for the work? If so, what is your current wait list time and what would be the turnaround time to install the comp and tighten the slide/frame fit? eerw: How many holes do you have in the barrel of the blued gun? And are there any holes in the hardchromed gun's barrel? Can you describe how the sight tracks between the two guns? I never thought about it, but I could go with a slide/barrel hole configuration like your blued gun with the slide cut-away on top but, on second thought, I doubt George would go for that because my slide has a large swoop in the rear so it's already fairly lightened.
  21. I just discovered a smallcrack on my EGW 9 port comp It's still small enough to shoot. So the gun goes off to EGW for repairs in January. Click here for a pic of my blaster. I intend to recycle the slide and barrel. Due to the lightening cuts in the slide I do not think drilling holes in the barrel will be an option, so I intend on going with a new comp only. I like the angled plates of the current comp, but feel it's an outdated design so I want to update. Thus begins the quest... This is my first open gun so I do not have a comp knowledge base, but I have been reading everything possible on the forums. I really wanted a titanium comp to shed some weight, but decided to go with EGW (they don't make any titanium comps) whom I am comfortable with. And besides I do okay with the current long & heavy comp. In a very old post I read Pat Harrison's recommendation for the Matt McLearn style comp as produced by EGW, but I am unsure which comp that is. Can anyone identify that comp? www.egw-guns.com Please share your experiences with EGW comps (i.e. 4 port EDM shot very flat but had side-to-side dot wiggle which was later eliminated by adding a side port to the front baffle of the comp). I feel like I bug George too much already, so when I bring the gun to him I want to have an idea of what I want.
