  2. 23+1 or 24+1 is doable in a 140 with the right parts. I've shot some 9major rounds out of my 9mm Limited gun and it is not pleasant. The muzzle flip is not any worse than a 40 but the hit is very hard and uncomfortable. The extra 2-3 rounds are not worth the pain.
  3. I have 12 9mm mags, 5 are SV tubes and the rest are STI. None have spacers and I have just about every follower/spring/basepad combo. All are reliable in the three 2011 style guns I own with long or factory length ammo. Taran Tactical just went through 5 of my SV tubes (springs, followers & basepads) and got a easily reloadble 29+1 in a 170 and of the four 140's three get an easy 23+1 and other gets 24+1. I'd suggest getting mags without spacers to start and if they work you're set, less parts to deal with. If they don't then go the spacers route.

    Hang in there Dave!
  5. Ok so 6 is better than 10 but why not just make it 5 like a procedural?
  6. After not shooting much Open in 2011 I kinda stuck to it this year at out local club matches and its paying off. 93.66% I got close in 2009 at 94.18% but I was hot and cold. This years classifiers have been pretty consistent. I need one more at 95% or real close and that will put me over. I'm a bit conflicted, I've been shooting this game since 1999 and I've never shot a Handgun Nationals. I'm planning on going next year and I'm not sure I want to go to my first one as a GM.
  7. I wish they had another way of qualifying for the Pro Series. As it stands now you have to shoot a bunch of 2-3 day matches (5 days total when you add travel on both ends) across the country throughout 2013 for a chance to get into the Qualifier match for 2014. I won't be spending my 2013 shooting budget that way. The Pro Matches are a totally different deal and I'd be completely on board with that schedule. Fly in on Friday, shoot on Saturday and home on Sunday at least according to Keith. I could shoot matches and keep my clients happy. Because of the requirement to have shot the Semi-Pro series to get into the Qualifier match a National 3-Gun Champion can't get in and that's sad for him and the series. I should have signed up and paid the money in 2011 when I would have earned enough points to get the Pro card. Oh well, shoulda, woulda, coulda... Good Luck to you guys in February. I'm done whining now
  8. John Alchin is making his own aluminum loaders. Different design than DS-10 http://www.allchingunparts.com/details.php?prodId=56&category=6
  9. I like that idea and it will be legal in 2013. Firing up the mill... Keep my posted, I'd like to try it out
  10. Should be ok, yard tools are pretty simple and low performace. I use the cheap oil in my small Honda generator and its still going after 18 years. If it were a hi-output outboard, motorcycle or jet ski I'd pay for exactly when the manufacture recommends.
  11. A guy at our local club has two 86 NSR250's! One is semi-running the other is basically a parts bike. He says he hasn't worked on them for years and I've tried to get him to think about selling but no go. I have an RG500 in the late 80's that I wish I stll had.

Hang in there! Beer? Its 7 o'clock in the moring scotch?
  13. I hate them too, just grab the tab that will catch on the tray and peal it back before sliding the tray out.
  14. huh? my 15 year old, 100 pound daughter shot my M2 at local matches and the Nationals last year. She would get a red mark on her cheek but didn't complain. That said its the only shotgun she has ever fired so maybe she just doesn't know any different.
  15. I have noticed that most of the top guys will do it slow so the RO can see. I see it as respect for the RO and rules. I've RO'd lots of folks at local clubs who seem to see the action as a way to show off how well they can flip a round up in the air and catch it or do some other flourish with the gun. Cute but I don't care, I just want to make sure the guy is safe. If I'm the RO and they do it too fast, they will do it again.
  16. Don't forget the top of the barrel hood, it rubs the underside of the slide and need lube. If it moves or touches something that moves, lube it
  17. That's cool, I didn't know it worked that way. If its only one more shot you need and you have a carier release button how about this? Don't take the gun off your shoulder, grab one shell with your weak hand, bring your hand under the gun, toss the shell in the port and press the carrier button as you hold the bottom of the reciever for support as the shot breakes? It's less than 1.5 if you practice a couple times.
  18. I thought Dave worked for Warne? I guess that's why Dave is at the range in Albany OR.
  19. Some Commander frames have shorter dustcovers so if you run a 5" slide there may be a gap between the end of the dust cover and the spring tunnel on the slide.
  20. Don't forget Chirs S. who won the Nationals with a Prismatic. Very true
  21. uh, shoot a few, turn one way (count clicks), shoot a few and if its better but not there keep going, if its worse go the other way only twice as many clicks.
  22. So we have to disclaim everything we write here for the sake of the lowest common denominator, like the message on plastic bags that say "this is not a toy"? One more reason the country is in decline I was talking about the same Major 9 loads I shoot out of my Open gun. There is no difference in chamber pressure in two idential barrels when one has a comp on the end and the other doesn't. He'll have a hard time finding load data to make major with fast powders.
