  1. On any course I design with walls or vision barriers I state: "they extend from the gates of heaven to the bowels of hell". I don't think TDean heard that last Memorial Day in Idaho --- or I forgot to state it. I still feel bad about him gettin' all those penalties!
  2. Shot this today at GCSS -- Open -- 12 A, 7C, FIVE doggies! 15.45, HF was 6.3430. I'll do better next time if it kills me!
  3. Bill --- good points all. Sadly, all the examples I used were right here in Area 1. The Ohio section match was as good a match as any that I've attended save the Nationals. I only wish the enthusiasm evidenced at Raynor's Range was as rampant in my corner of the IPSC world. That said, my belief is that a local USPSA approved club match in Idaho should be administered exactly the same as a local USPSA approved club match in Ohio. That is to say: by the current rulebook. The example I used of allowing only 10 rounds loaded in a magazine was applied to ALL divisions. Guessin' most anyone would be steamed if they drove four or five hours to a match only to find out they could only load ten rounds in their twenty nine round mag. Since everybody could only load ten, they felt that was fair. And the majority of the stages were thirty-plus rounds. I've not yet seen any of my states IPSC clubs close down, and I certainly don't want anyone to think a hardass approach is warranted when pointing out minor flaws in course design or target presentations. As an experienced shooter, and section coordinator, I feel we need to get to matches ahead of time to correct these blemishes before they become a "way of life" , and to aid in any way we can to get these clubs on the right path. I won't just complain, I'll jump in to help set up so that stages don't get tossed out. I'll point out that bowling pins aren't acceptable or legal targets and suggest target-legal alternatives that present the shooting challenge that they are attempting. Matches that run by the rules are an investment in the success of future matches. Those clubs that are run by an ever changing, ever flexible rule set are the ones that never grow or soon whither away.
  4. Bill --- where do you draw the line at local matches if you allow non-standard targets in a USPSA approved match? What if they only want to allow a maximum of 10 rounds loaded in a magazine? Or allowing less than .40 caliber guns to be scored as major in Limited "cuz ol' JerryJoeBob is D class and ain't no threat to win anyhow". How about giving procedural penalties if you don't shoot it like the stage designer envisioned? I've witnessed all of the above (and more) since I've been shooting IPSC. If discussion with the match director does no good I go to the section coordinator.Failing there I go to the Area director. I think if your club advertises as holding USPSA approved matches, it should run the USPSA matches by the rulebook. Once you allow individual clubs to decide which of the rules they will enforce then you are no longer running a USPSA approved match, rather a club match loosely following USPSA rules. If it's advertised as such then I have no problems. But, if it's a USPSA match and I fly accross the country expecting to shoot a USPSA match and find out it's just a "good ol' boys" match, damn right I'll be pissed!! The way we handle it in Idaho is to hold a USPSA match one weekend and a club "fun match" two weekends later where it's no holds barred and nothing is sacred except for safety. That way the USPSA guys are happy as are the "carnival" shooters who eschew the circumscription of rulebooks. Admittedly, the little infractions of the rules are easier to stop before it becomes entrenched, however, a visit by the SC, or a note from the AD, explaining that part of the agreement when they chose to affiliate with USPSA/IPSC was to "host matches under the published USPSA/IPSC rules and guidlines". Many times, the match directors haven't any idea what the USPSA club program manual says and only need it brought to their attention to correct any problems.
  5. Brian --- dad-nabbit!!!!! Thought for sure I had a live one! Guess I'm gonna have to change my strategy; quit stressin' the exhorbitant sums a top hand can make and start informing 'em about all the shooting opportunities that abound in Owyhee County. That oughta set the hook! See ya next year somewhere, sometime!
  6. Not so Flex --- I shot a 100% on this a couple years back (with my G-20). It was seven points down in 4.57. Not certain whether it was on the low end of 100%, in the middle, or on the high end. I did shoot a 3.90 with my Open gun a few months back and dropped only two points (in practice). I followed it up with a 4.01 and had two misses and only one "A"! Ain't been anywhere close since --- typically in the very high fours. Oh well.
  7. Stu --- from Tom Neth: it was a great match with really good, fun stages, including some *appearing/dis-appearing eight inch plate targets. A shotgun "El Prez" as well as a standards stage. Approximately 150 rounds in one day. Dave Neth won, either Pat or Shawn Carlock was second/third, with Carl Carbon fourth. J. Wall shot but he didn't say where he finished.
  8. Brian --- you've made my day! I hope my next reply says: "welcome aboard"! Now about that compensation, that's where the eatin' comes in. If'n ya don't eat a lot (we provide two huge meals per day) you can "sell back" yer eatin' allowance and deposit that into your 401K for your golden years. Also, you'll be makin' 10 cents/foot for four strand and 8 cents/foot for three strand. 50 cents per post hand-driven or 20 cents per post using my tractor-mounted post pounder. I know, it seems like an astronomical sum of money you'll be makin', but that's the generous soul that I am!!!!! Why, before you know it, you'll be the top hand around here! What say you?
  9. Flex --- I do! I've got two pistol pits (all carpeted so I can find all my brass) and my rifle range goes to 500 measured yards. After that you're free to shoot as far as you'd like and guestimate the distance. Being the lazy sort, I set up my varmint rifle (22-250 or 260 Rem.) in the foyer on a bench with a spotting scope nearby & shoot coyotes & other *pests* by merely opening the front door about 18 inches and touching 'em off! Of course that's in the winter when things are slow around here. Didn't know your sister barrel raced. Carrie used to show horses & we've got a swell arena that we "play" with our horses in. See ya!
  10. Brian --- don't know what kind of job you have but you're a pretty stout lad so how are ya at settin' posts and runnin' barbed wire?? I've got miles of the stuff to run around my place and can always use a good man. Assuming of course that you don't eat too much!! And you can camp out right on my property *free* of charge! Interested????
  11. BDH --- I object!!!! The Area 1 championships are May 9/10 through the 12/13th. We'll be having the Idaho section champs end of May/mid June and I have to ramrod that one. We had a great time in Ohio and would like to return for a shot at redemption. If you do have it in early May we wish you all the best. I only WISHED our sections members were as eager to put on a first rate match as you Buckeyes! I'm very impressed with the quality of all your shooters/workers; perhaps some of them could be enticed to move to Idaho --- we have some clubs that need that infusion of talent!! See ya,

    Conversion?

Hmmmmm ... seems like my 15 round Glock 10mm mags hold 17 rounds of 38 Super --- and they cycled & ejected perfectly. Damn you Stu, now I gotta try one o'those Barsto's, hopefully I can get one in Super!
  13. Thanks for the info 404 --- I'll check that site out. I shot it yesterday and the mag tube holds seven plus one on the carrier and one in the chamber. I'm guessin' that the mag tube would have to hold more than ten rounds before encountering any legal problems. But that's only a guess! Thanks again! Just checked out the HK site --- could be a bad guess! (Edited by titandriver at 9:22 pm on Oct. 11, 2002)
  14. Kyle --- while I didn't get to see you shoot at the Ohio sectional (other than the shootoff's), I'm convinced it's that OSU hat!! Lose it in favor of a University of Idaho lid, guarantee it'll bump you up at least a class!! (Edited by titandriver at 4:40 pm on Oct. 10, 2002)
  15. Okay guys, it cost me $675 out the door and here's what I got : receiver is marked Heckler & Koch Inc. Sterling Va., barrel is 21 inches long, mag tube is 18 inches long. It has a vent rib with red fiber optic bead and a pistol grip buttstock. Included was a "bag of stuff" containing a plastic rear sight that mounts on the rib, five chokes & choke wrench, sling, original mag cap & spring & plug, barrel/mag tube band, and the original buttstock. It appears to have been shot very little. How can I tell how old this shotgun is, whether it's pre or post ban? Serial # is M133147. Will this one carry a round on the carrier with a full mag? I would be willing to sell this for a very small profit if anyone is interested. Thanks again for all the info! Oh yeah; I'll send it your way Stu when I get tired of it!!
  16. Thanks for the info guys! I forgot to mention that this gun has the pistol grip stock also. I know nothing about Benelli's but this particular gun was marked at $700, not certain exactly what he'd take for it. This is a 90% trap & skeet oriented gun shop so I'm not sure if he wants to get rid of it in a hurry or just isn't aware of it's worth to three gunners. I'm gonna offer him $600 for it this afternoon, I'll let you know if he bites! Thanks again, Oops, it has a vent rib also, not sure about choke tubes. (Edited by titandriver at 11:35 am on Oct. 10, 2002)
  17. Hey Ron --- you might consider the Glock 20. I had a Colt Delta Elite also and it was indeed abusive! Switched to a Glock 20 and it is probably ten times *less* abusive than the Delta Elite! And far less finicky! I also used this Glock to get a GM card in Limited before returning it to carry duty in the wilds of central Idaho. Holds sixteen plus one of *near* equivalent factory .44 ammo as an added bonus.
  18. Can one of you three gun shooters tell me what a very slightly used M1 is selling for? Saw one yesterday with 22" barrel, extended mag tube, bead front sight. Barrel band that clamps barrel/mag tube was missing. Overall gun appeared to be used very little. Thanks! Sorry if this is in the wrong place!
  19. Whew!! Finally got home!! The match was an absolute blast for Carrie & me! The range was fantastic as were the stages. Six misses put me out of the running, kinda hard to go 90 points down and win a match. Especially with the number of good shooters that showed up. I did lose by only four points, so that's some small consolation and an impetus to do better next year! Thanks to all of you "Buckeyes" who put on the match and especially to the Rayners for being such gracious hosts! It was great to meet all you "BE" guys too!!! Thanks again!
  20. Hah!! If you think airplanes are expensive, try horses! I can buy two Limcat full-house Open guns for the price of one saddle, TWENTY Limcat Open guns for the price of one above average cutting horse, FIFTY Limcat Open guns for the price of a barn/arena, and the list goes on and on and on ............ Yep, shootin' IPSC is actually pretty damn cheap, and you can always put your gun in the safe for a long time and never have to spend another nickel on it 'til you use it again. Not so with our horses. And what goes in always comes out & needs to be cleaned up!
  21. Oops --- meant to ask if Burkett shot minor intentionally, if so, what caliber was he shooting.
  22. Erik --- was Burkett shooting .40 or a .38 or 9x19 in Limited at the Nats? Any idea why he went that way? Thanks,
  23. I think Ron is absolutely correct, you still have to shoot. I smoked both stage twelve (10.8) and stage fourteen (6.9) dropping LOTS of points in the process. Barnhart ran stage twelve in 10.3 and only dropped TWO points! How'd he do that? Travis ran stage fourteen in 7.0 down only three points --- awesome! I'm an old fart at 52 but I can still move pretty good, it's the droppin' only a couple of points that's got the big dogs so far ahead of the rest of us! So yeah, learn to move LOTS faster but don't forget to get those points!
  24. Mine was purchased Sept, '01 from Brownells, .38 Super. Broke right in half after 15 K rounds.
  25. Shot this one today at Gem County Speed Shooters (Idaho), stood up (damn tough on us 52 year olds!) had 9 Alpha, 2 Charlies and ---- damn, No Shoot/Mike! Oh yeah, 5.15 seconds.
