  1. I guess I am looking for less felt recoil. It has a rifle length Enidine (or JP lighten buffer) due to the stock I am using....kind of a heavier weight ACE Socom Long (Short was too short fully exended). So are ya'll saying that the alumium buffer from JP will be better than the Enidine. What can I change to lighten the felt recoil and quicken recovery time. It just does not feel like I think it should feel with respect to recoil with shot to shot recovery. THANKS
  2. That's great....I have a 16" barrel with a rifle length gas tube. I do have a JP lightened carrier and never have those problems with function. However, I don't reload right now. Did you state that your reloading in your first post?
  3. Been using that description for years with UPS, Fedex, and USPS. Never a raised eyebrow or question. Tried that with FedEx Kinko's when I wanted to ship upper half of my Para Ltd (POS) P-16. I was told anything over $200 in Insurance requires that they open and look at the item? Insured for $200 and went on down the road. Sent through postal service was "less" questions. Some of the previous posts are right....it is not a gun....but if they open it....the idiots that work there don't know it. Also, I was told when I sent back the entire gun to the factory to Remington that a driver from UPS would actually have to come by and pick the package up. That is I could not leave it a shipping office...i.e. Mail & More....probably their policy. BTW, when it comes back, the driver will not just "leave it" if they can not be assured that someone over the appropriate age is there to sign fot it. Just my experience.....their internal rules, policies and procedures probably very greatly?
  4. I have a Millet DMS that I need to remount to my AR. Up until this point, I was using Talley 30MM medium rings. The rings were not high enough and I kind of what to move the scope forward also. LaRue Tactical makes several models of their SPR mount, but I did wanted to go through the whole mess of ordering and "trying it out" returning etc. There is one in particular that mounts the scope 1.93"....seems maybe too much. Part of the problem is that when I wear my Prp Ears, the stock hits these and make it hard to aim. This 16" gun with comp is VERY loud. THANKS!
  5. I have a "put together) .223 Upper that includes a VLTOR rifle lenght forend on a 16" barrel with a Cooley Comp, low mass bolt and Enidine shock absorbing buffer. The gun still seems to recoil more than I would like. Will replacing the hidden (under the forend) low profile gas block with an Adjustable Gas Block make a substantial difference. The only reason I haven't tried it is that it will be somewhat of a PITA (given the setup) and it will also be sunsequently hard to adjust....I believe. Your thoughts are GREATLY APPRECIATED!
  6. I have seen and read discussions of using undersized sizing die (I think it was sizing) in reloading. I was wondering (since I am a newbie) shy is this done and do I need one in addition to the RCBS .40 dies I already have? If so, what brand is the best and the source? I believe I saw an advertisement for undersized dies, but I am not sure as this was a general reloading catalog from Cabelas. I also saw a discussion for the CaseMaster or something....followed the link an realized that old prices were like $500. If I obtain a Dillon 650....do I still still need this CaseMaster. Between the two, I am in over $1K and still haven't purchase the bullet and case feeder which eventually I plan on getting for the Dillon. You thoughts are GREATLY APPRECIATED!
  7. I wondered about that too? I saw an add for SPS in USPSA Frontsight (I guess it's a European co.) and its seems to be the same frame as STI/SV design. The company also sales mags to fit the STI/SV frames.
  8. I was thinking of getting a CMMG .22 conversion for my AR. The cost range from $160 - $200 and includes one magazine. Just wanted to know anyone's thoughts on this item. I have a 10/22 that I was thinking of converting to a trainer via Nordic, but the controls are different and to make the weight similiar, I would need a new barrel etc... to make it even somewhat realistic weight wise. THANKS!
  9. Want to know thoughts on my dilema and some are self-imposed. I am thinking on buying or building a new Limited Gun and was wondering if I should go to like Brazos or Dawson and buy their next level STI (hard crome) etc. that both offer for about $2K or obtain parts and get a smith to build a gun. Will purchasing an STI shortblock (or long wide frame and all necessary parts) save any money? It really doesn't look like it, but I would like to save all the $$ I can so that the rest can be used to purchase a Dillon 650 etc..... With this much invested in "my hobby", I would like to shoot it as much as possible and until I obtain an ammo sponsor....lol.....I will definately need to reload. Also, please do not mention a 6in. gun...etc. I like the look and feel (slightly weight forward feel) of full length dustcover. All those lightening slots and other of the 6" guns that I see threads about and pictures of will have to wait until I become a better shooter. Thanks
  10. I've owned several Rems over the years, purchasing only the ones with a parkerized matte finish. Traded an 870 in '91. Subsequently, purchased 11-87 Mag and Sportsman in '03 and '08. The latter autos seemed to rusts by the minute. I replaced the 11-87 with a Benellli M-1 which was subsequently traded for the Rem Sportsman in '08. Didn't know about the available parts to set up for three-gun. With mag extension...etc....the gun was HEAVY. Shot very little and started to rust. Older model Rems parkerized seemed to have a less porous matte finish on them. Newer models rust badly.....I hate oiling guns when I don't use them which this gun will need....total pain in the ass and am too busy to worry about that. However, Remington has treated me well (warranty) and I own several Rem 700s and I would not buy any other rifle for the price. In addition, they are making some pretty cool guns for law enforcement anf military. Maybe they can improve the finish on their shotguns. You could probably find an M-1 used for the price and in my opinion you will have less problems with maintenance with this gun.
  11. I would seriously consider an upper from a higher quality company. Such Colt, BCM, LMT. If money is tight try Stag. I have nothing but hate for DPMS and that is because I have to keep their guns running for my guys as the department armorer. DPMS is close to the bottom of the barrel in AR quality. pat One more thing.....if we are just talking about an upper receiver..... I tried to order a Wilson 16" Stainless Barrel from Rock River Arms. Could not give a time.....gave up. Point is, you can buy upper component parts that will be "better" quality than your good as gold Colts. Come on.....you speak as though these manufacturer's are doing something special. As readily available as these parts are (except the barrels) at the time....buying an upper from them does not guarantee any better quality. It's the components (or lack thereof) that make the difference. Steve
  12. I would seriously consider an upper from a higher quality company. Such Colt, BCM, LMT. If money is tight try Stag. I have nothing but hate for DPMS and that is because I have to keep their guns running for my guys as the department armorer. DPMS is close to the bottom of the barrel in AR quality. pat Is Colt the Company that formerly sold the general gun buying public out to win U.S Government contracts for their guns at the behest of the [gun banners]? Maybe that's Internet and GM folklore.....so I ask how can you support a company like that? Good product or not....get real!
  13. Do you or does anyone else know......if any of the double stack mags will work on a Para. I would like to get an upper for mine, but if the mags won't fit (which I don't think are the same as STI/SV), then I will need to rethink. THANKS!
  14. Forgive me as I am new. But do these shirts somehow make you a better shooter or something. That is id you look the part.....i.e. a "professional" then you are somehow magically transformed. Seems like Addidas make a breathable fabric shirt as well as others....that would work just as good. I guess I just don't get the "shirt" thing?
  15. FYI: In one of the recent magazine articles of the all too numerous gun/shooting publications that I read, an officer discussed purchasing exactely what your are inquiring about. That is an STI 4.15 in .45 as his carry gun. Little on the heavy side, but in stated that some of the CC holsters produced for other guns with rails molden into their dustovers (read Glock) would fit this gun. GOOD LUCK!
  16. Seems like for some reason, I went to the Colt website (never had one) for some reason and they will do the work. They make it seem like their prices are reasonable. I don't know what that means for The Colt Custom Shop? Good Luck!
  17. I have one on my 16" DPMS. It is miserably loud. I also use this gun for hunting (small hogs) and made the mistake of shooting it without hearing protection (I know). Seems like I instanting had an headache and could not hear out of one ear for like a day and a half. Since the Cooley comp (bought from JP Rifles) cam with shims that I used but still could not get in to index right, I would probably go with a quieter (if there is one) option if I had to do it again.
  18. I am pretty sure that the M-2 replaced the M-1 model. Seems like $1K is the approximate amount I paid for the M-2. At first I hated the look of the gun....Confortec stock and such.....but.....
  19. Same here....that's the reason I switched back to Benelli. I had an older M-1 (that for some reason I traded) to get a new Rem. 11-87 Sportman. Added some "modifications" and gun was just to end heavy. Have an M-2 now and have added some "additions" extended mag tube, bolt handle etc. Benellis (based on my past experience) should feed everything all the time. If not.....it must be "worn out" or broken. Never had a problem with the last one and I never cleaned the internals. 100% reliable.....ALL THE TIME!
  20. Would like thoughts on everyone's preference of the two for use in Limited on my Para and/or STI? Safariland is little more expensive, but in looking at the two these seem similiar in design and function. Seems like the 013 is the replacement for the 012 from Safariland.
